Speaking on behalf of the SCWDP, we're very proud to be fellow Board Members with you, Jack. I have always been struck by your humility. Your talent has been quite obvious. Congratulations.

Awesome article Jack, and you are just incredibly handsome (I am not being gay, not that being gay is an issue) but this is about as F__king OFF TOPIC as a fellow could get. I can't routinely ***** about our favorite 3.6 guru without you getting all flustered.

So be the good moderator that I know you are and put your OMRBCH - GQ story in the off topic discussion.

Never produced eh? Oh well maybe it'll be a big one when it happens!!

Well done Jack.

And bless the friendly banker (or backer) that comes up with the pay cheques.

Can't we put together a kitty and collect funds to get one of Jack's screenplays produced? I little Indy thing. What could it cost, $20K at the most? Someone here has got to be a cinematographer or something. We can donate our cars as props, after all everyone in the film will be a 911 owner and all the dialog will have 911 references...

What's next on the list, Jack? Sailing around the world? Playgirl spread? Arm in arm with Demi Moore at the Oscars? Congrats.

A few things that I admire about Jack...

1. He owns and built my DREAM Porsche

2. He could afford to buy a Twin Turbo or GT2 and still built my DREAM Porsche

3. A man with class.....Posh, not trendy!!!

Most of all...Deserves all of the success he has achieved and more!!!

Thanks again, everyone. My career up to this point has been odd, to me. But as the article points out, it isn't that unusual. I'll keep plugging away, and let all of you know when my name is going to be up on a screen somewhere.

Quote:
If you don't mind my asking Jack, what did you do to pay the bills before this whole screen writing thing took off for you?
I majored in Philosophy at UCLA, and (naturally) got a job out of school as a 'script reader' for a talent agency. I summarized movie scripts and offered a one-paragraph opinion on the merits of the ideas and execution. Later, I supported myself doing everything from slugging through a stint as a night manager at a Kinkos to working as a graphic designer for Yale and USC.

Quote:
Also, did you get solicited to do this article or is this a bit of sly publicity on the part of your people?
My wife is a writer for the WB show 'Reba.' A friend of hers was asked by the writer of the article if he knew of any unproduced screenwriters. He had met me a few times, and asked if I would be willing to talk to the magazine writer. I checked with my agent, who gave it his blessing.

The downside to not having/using a publicist is that when an article is written about you, it's actual journalism. You don't get to give any input, or review it before publication. I had no idea what slant this writer would take. I was concerned that he would want to portray me as bitter or angry about my career so far.

So I was pretty anxious on Wednesday, seeing that the new issue of the magazine was on the newsstand. I read it while standing in line at a Subway sandwich shop (see, not so rich). I was surprised at how favorably it portrayed me. Having played by the rules in a business where most of the journalism is vanity-driven and paid for -- I got lucky. I couldn't have gotten nicer coverage if I'd paid for it.

All of the above. Definitely.

Fair enough. I'll move it.

Good work, Jack. I'd keep the phone lines clear. GQ gets a lot of readers who can produce in addition to buy a script.

Jack, when hundreds and thousands of chicks start writing you letters with photos enclosed of them with their clothes off, would you put them up in the R18 section of this BBS.

Heck....it sounds like a pretty good arrangement just like it is (publish shmublish). You do work that you love (how many of us can say that???), make a decent buck (how many of us can say that???), and can pal around with us regular folks without mobs of groupies tearing off their bras so you can sign them...(the bras, Jack).

Life is good. You've done us proud....keep it up.

Congrats on the great article and achievements to date. I'm sure we will all be looking more closely at the credits in future! Way to go Jack.

That isn't likely to happen Bill. One night, long ago, Cindy & I were dining in a "posh" restaurant located on the Oregon Coast. I overheard two of the waiters "discussing" the fashions displayed in the latest GQ. Seemed to me they were being as critical of the male models as they were of the fashions. That made me think that GQ is a bit like Playboy, only more subtle? "Gee, I'm only reading this for the informative articles?"
Note the duds Jack was outfitted in for the photo shoot...do you think he dresses like that ALL the time? Nope..chicks won't be writing Jack because of this piece...but others might! "Not that there's anything wrong with THAT!"

Even small steps in the right directions are good ones right Jack?

Congrats on a positive article. How long did you have to wait from the time you talked to the writer untill it came out?

...I wonder why GQ didn't get a shot of you a$$ to elbows in grease under the 911?

That was just great Jack. You deserve the recognition, however Tyson should have called it fellow UCLA grad gone good. Yes, I too began to cheer when reading the reference to the 72 Porsche 911 track car. Congrats.
