Who said the following?
A little fun thing.
One president of the United States, in a State of the Union address, declared that all Americans should have the following rights: The right to a useful and renumerative job in the industries or shops or farms or mines of the nation The right to earn enough to provide adequate food and clothing and recreation The right of every farmer to raise and sell his products at a return which will give him and his family a decent living The right of every businessman, large and small, to trade in an atmosphere of freedom from unfair competition and domination by monopolies at home or abroad The right of every family to a decent home The right to adequate medical care and the opportunity to achieve and enjoy good health The right to adequate protection from the economic fears of old age, sickness, accident, and unemployment The right to a good education So which president made this "Second Bill of Rights" part of what year State of the Union message?

It must be one of those pinko, liberal, socialists the right wingers are always trying to warn us against, whoever it is.

But still prefer "From Each According To His Abilities, To Each According To His Needs" ... which summarizes very well also the 'spirit' of this board.
So I may ask myself: Is Pelican Forums a 'extreme-left-wing-communist' bulletin board? ![]() Food for thought .. must be the full moon ![]()

FDR was a Democrat that many of us right wingers would support today. Somewhere along the way Democrats lost their way and evolved into todays "pinko liberal socialists". It's too bad; they used to be relevant.

Keep in mind that until the early '60s that both parties had left and right wing sides.

Jordi, although we have a few (loud) "extreme-left-wing-communist" types, the board as a whole is pretty well balanced. If you think this is bad, you should look at off topic on the "other" board.

How about this one? Can you guess the President?

Here's a better one:

Still, he opened a can of worms that will eventually have to be dealt with.

Well, that can of worms was opened up long before he dealt with it.
How do you think he should have handled the retirements of many americans disappearing due to the nature of the financial system of the time? |

During the Great One there was no liquidity in the system... FDR put some grease in the system to loosen it up...to get it moving again...

Here's one of my favorites. So much so that it is printed on my binder which holds all my most used reference information in my briefcase. Some of you will know it simply because I have posted it here before:
"All that serves labor serves the nation. All that harms labor is treason. If a man tells you he loves America yet hates labor, he is a liar. If a man tells you he trusts America yet fears labor, he is a fool. There is no America without labor, and to fleece the one is to rob the other."
