Well, under 18, there are a lot of crappy memories for the same
Then there where the years that he wouldn't talk to me, and then the last few years, well, those were some of the best, I learned that I had EARNED his respect, after that, the bad was just faded history, never to be forgotten, but over shadowed.

Well; it's unfortunate but my dad simply doesn't ever tie on a buzz. Never had a problem with the stuff, he just doesn't do it.

I'd love to sit at a bar in vegas or something and nurse a nice comfortable buzz though.

Heck - I don't even need to talk to him while it happens.

Very cool! I don't have a "dad" but my grandfather comes as close as you can get and we've shared a few evenings together telling stories and sharing some drinks! Treasure these times and have as many as you can!

thanks for sharing guys, makes me feel very lucky that I've been able to experience this with him every now and then, sometimes even to my mom's dismay

last was when we attended the F1 race, great time

one memorable time I just remembered was when we were at the Orange Bowl for the championship game. Our seats were the first row of the particular section and people would pass in front of us. We noticed a full packet of ketchup lying on the ground and would giggle ourselves silly watching people *almost* step on it and spray it all over their shoes. My gf and mom thought we were nuts.

I had a couple drinks with my dad, christmas eve 1982. What a hoot. Sadly was called in to work the next morning, my wife drove them to the airport. He died 3 weeks later, cooking breakfast.

Yep, I enjoyed his last time with me, but overtime took my last hours away. That money cost more than any possible worth.

When gone, they are gone. Permanent.

My Daddy doesn't drink....he says it's BAD for his Blood Pressure, but I just think he's afraid of what Mother will say....Now me I don't give a fk what Mother says...I gamble, I drink, I spend and I Buffet....so what

U know Mother is always berating me about something, she has called me every name in the book..."Lazy Good for Nothing Bum, Twit, Idiot, mOron....you name it shes said it...but I just think she has problems...Yeah Yeah I know ..I'm her problem...Yada Yada Yada....

Now I can sit down and tie one on with Mother....Vodka Tonics are her poison.... but it's her mouth after a few thats a bit much... if U can get around that .... well she can be fun...

Now on the serious side....I had a friend who...I met at a gun store in Pasadena, CA....and that store is another story unto itself.... I digress as usual ...I knew Archy for almost 20 years...Arch flew B-24's in the war, owned his own Business, had the house in San Marino, Invested in the Market, Lost a fortune drilling for oil, played and gave golf lessons at Brookside Park by the Rosebowl...and bought and sold guns...Arch would always buy a gun say it was the greatest thing ever and then 2 months later he would sell it sometimes for a profit, sometimes for a loss....and then a year later he would buy another one of the same gun...

I used to go with him looking for guns at various shops in So Cal and we would stop and have a glass of wine at his favorite place in Pasadena.at the end of the day....

On his last day he gave a golf lesson to his attorney, went and had a glass of wine with him, went home....turned on the Golf Channel on TV put his feet up on his coffee table and passed away with the remote still in his hand....he was 86....but he would NEVER have told you that he was that old...

Loosing my dad at 13 forced me to seek guidance from those around me... You should have seen how many times I cut myself shaving before a mate's father took pity on me and showed me how to pass a blade correctly over my face

I too, like Tab have been very fortunate to have surrogate father figures in my live, my good friend Phil Sparta (a 914 nut too) has been around since the 80s for me, Floyd English, whom my farther introduced me too, as he was a Porsche guy who lived on his boat near my dad's has adopted me as a son figure too, he was there for me when my father died and my evil step sister wouldn't let me sit in the family pew, and my business partner Fred Does.

Phil was in the Navy, saw action in Korea & Nam.
Floyd was just under 40 years, started in the Navy in Nam
Fred, was a Air Force fighter pilot in Nam.

I had to cut my trip short = my ex dragged me back into court on non-sense issues. This is what happens when the support finally comes to an end - they look to bleed you dry even more some how, some way, some where. I would rather swallow a bullet then ever get another divorce.

My Dad was understanding and had a few choice words for her. If something happens to him before I get to see him again I will officially hate her more than anything living or dead!

1. Do those kids by the Ex have a relationship with U or are you the evil one that they want to bleed dry

2. Do U love those kids....maybe inspite of themselves....

If the answer is the affirmative to either answer then I don't see anything wrong with helping them out on a voluntary basis. Now I really would have a bad hair day if the ex thought you were her own private entitlement program.... That means any panango goew directly to the kiddys

I really get off the boat when I see that parents won't help their children succeed in being better person and/or more successfull than they are...and if a little money helps than so be it...

Archy was a good friend.....One onf my Daddys Buddys from his Detroit days and is now 86... calls and talks to about Money and how well his Bonds have done...he's from the Depression era and is therefore very conservative with money and as a consequence has a pot to piss in....anyway lately we have been argueing about Socia Security and Privativization thereof. What it comes down to is that his own children won't listen or talk to him the way I do...I give him the time of the day...and don't think he is an old fool...


The one that has really made a difference in my life was Grandpa on Daddys side of the family...He was an extremely bright man, who coming from the old country didn't have a chanch at getting an education...he ultimately worked for Ford starting in 1916 and retiring in 1959 as a Speciality Mould Maker...He was extremely outspoken and once told Henry Ford that he...Ford was crazy....Grandpa was also was extremely PRO UNION... if U worked for Ford before the Unions then U would understand....U might even say he was a Communist...However Grandpa was a strong, tough cookie who spoke his mind in no uncertain terms.. In the old days in Detroit they called Bars...Biergartens...once a man asked my Granny to dance, and I guess got rude when turned down...Grandpa took him on along with 5 of his Buddys and kicked their a$$es...Grandpa also helped alot of people during the Depression, he was able to work at Ford because of his speciality trade... The other thing was that Grandpa believed in education and saw to it that his children got one, it was no easy ride for Daddy and his brothers they had to start work when they were 12....selling newspapers etc....

But the difference for me is that in my time with Grandpa and that was limited ..this man who everybody respected, valued my opinion...he listened and took to heart what I had to say...

One thing U boyz have to realize is that those old timers (the men who worked in the factories in Pittsburg, Cleveland, Detroit etc) from the old country were hard drinking hard fighting guys who had fists of steel...If I get a boo boo on my little finger I begin to cry....

Tabs - My 18yr old is from my ex - the 2.5 and 6.5 yr olds are mine and my wifes - always and forever together!

My 18 yr old is in Chicago with my ex - were they ahve been for 17+ years. My ex got pregs in college with here and the school booted her out, then her dad booted her out and I was the last stop. We always knew it wouldn't work out but I managed to convince ger to get hitched for the medical insurance and also cuz I wanted to have my kid to have my last name. Shortly after the birth we were divorced. She moved on - did some modelling for Aramani and a bunch of catolgue work but needed it and got into sales.

My 18 yr old thinks the world owes her and that her parents owe her more. She is pretty spoiled and hides behind some lame job at a tanning salon thinking that sgeis all grown up and showing the world she has responcibilities. She will start university in the fall but I don't think she will finish - I hope I am wrong. Does she care for me? I don't think so. I have attempted and will continue but I am not sure it is in her genetic code.

My ex spends her life as she has always done by trying to convince everyone she has money and came from wealth when infact her dad working for the railroad and her mom woulds check spelling errors for a factory publication. I guess that was never good enough for her. She worlks as some mid level project manager for Siemans. She makes it sound like she is the CEO - you know the type. She is by far the worst human being I have ever met or ever care to meet. I think she may infact be a complete waste for protoplasma. Not even sure her orgins are worth donating. The sad part is - I always knew it. The only reason I ever paid any attention too her cuz she was pretty hot in her day. I saw her last week and to my delight she looked like arse! Added 20lbs, bad bad hair, brown poly pant suit and the years of Marlboro lights and fake bakes have finally caught up - skin looks like Indiana Jones' jacket!

Mike, I've been there, I know how you feel (15 years it too me to learn ) I was smart enough not to marry her, but dumb enough to keep going back. Taught her son how to ride a bicycle, this year (he turned 16) taught him how to drive a stick (964)shift. Zack is the closest to a kid I'll ever have, and at least I have his respect. I'm going to watch him play in a Golf tourney on Wend.
