Getting Drunk with my Dad - when was the last time you did that?

OK - its 2AM EST - a case of Bud and a bottle of Cuervo ha s just been had by me and my ol man - we are not drunks but love each others company and celbrate when we can. I only see him once every 6 months and we have a few but thid time we rellay tied one on.

When was the last time you drank with your ol man and shared "man" stories and laughed till it hurt?

Done this a few times myself. Last time was at the 2001 USGP. We talked about alot of things that I never knew as a kid. It was really interesting to get my dad's impressions of things that I only saw through a child's (or teenager's) eyes. Made me really think about things and respect him even more than I did already.

My dad retired yesterday after 40 YEARS of being a physician. My wife and kids and I are heading out to Milwaukee to see he and my mom tomorrow, can't wait to have a few brews and just let him talk....My brother, dad and I have such a great time together add the great lubricant and it get's down right riotous!

Never. My father doesn't drink. He only tells about six stories anyway. He forgets most of the details, and changes the rest to put himself in the best possible light.

Despite what you may have heard, I can tell you honestly that I've never gotten drunk with your Dad.


Seriously though, I can't recall ever getting drunk with my Dad. He, along with my brother and myself, are always ones to find a spot out back or in the garage and kill a couple of beers and a couple of hours while the women-folk chatter on about that stuff they always chatter on about.

928, I was thinking the same thing, I don't even remember drinking with LubeMaster, let alone his Dad.

I actually did get a chance or two with my Dad before he passed away. Was usually on his boat (where he was happiest) and usually when the wind was either not blowing at all, or blowing waaaaay too hard.

I miss those days, and think of him often on my boat, no matter how hard the wind is blowing. There is soooo much I would love to say to him.

Pay attention guys...... call him and say it now. You might not get the chance.

That was the first reunion he ever attended...if your Dad chooses to go, try and make it. It was a very rewarding experience for both me and my family.

Never done it. And my dad won't talk about WWII. Being a corpsman I think wasn't particularly pretty.

As has been said above, enjoy your time with him. A good friend of mine lost her dad when she was 8, and she still is terribly sad.

I can imagine a scenario where that would be a fun thing to do but I never have and never will. My father has chosen a life that does not include me, my sister and three grandchildren (mother passed away long ago). I wish him well.

Father's Day. Fishing. Sitting around the kitchen table that night 'till about 1:00 am eating smoked oysters, pickled eggs and all that other stuff you eat at 1:00am. TIme for bed when he runs out of Busch and starts drinking my Bud.

I envy anyone that has the opportunity to do this. I lost my dad at 18; I would give anything for the chance to get to know him as a man instead of an authority figure in my life. My surviving aunts and uncles, and some folks I was priveledged enough to meet over the years that knew him, all say he was a pretty fun guy to be around. My current plan is to hold on long enough so my two boys can someday enjoy that opportunity. I plan on drinking them both under the table some day.

i will be leaving on vacation to my folks' cabin saturday morning to drink with mom and pops every evening for about 4 or 5 days. do it evey summer.

i have told him alot of things i did when i was a kid under his watch now that the statute of limitations has expired during these lazy evenings up in the mountians. like how i used to take his ninja and truck out when he was out of town.

thing is we were close when i was a kid (dirt biking), but did not care to much for each others act. now he is one of my very best friends, and i would not trade our relationship for anything. he's my pops and someone i enjoy hanging around with. he has even forgiven me for the S i put him through in my teens, i think.

Dec 8th, 1993, he passed 3 days later
He lived on his boat at the club, I lived in a condo there with my girlfriend at the time. He came into the pub as I was leaving (he hated this pub, only came over if I was there) and I told him I was heading back to the condo, he stated that he was going to buy his son a few drinks, well, my girlfriend was pissed, as I was passed out in front of our door, and she had to drag me inside to put me to bed. Boy did I feel rough the next day, but 2 days later I got a phone call at 8AM saying that he had bed found passed out in the head at the club, that was the message I got, so I called me evil step sister, told her to check on him since she might want to know and to call me if anything was wrong. I went on to do my gigs, calling in for info to her house, his boat, but never getting an answer, finally after 8PM, I was at a Porsche Club X-mas party, my brother-in-law answered the phone. When I asked how my dad was doing, he told me he was gone, I asked "where did he go?" only then did he tell me that my father had died, and that c*nt ***** step sister didn't have the consideration to call and tell me that he died, yea, I don't think too much of her. I'm very sure that my father knew that he was not long for this world and used that Tues night to spend it with me getting very drunk. We had some great times the last few years of his life, even had a few "special" rules made against me in my Beer Club, as when my dad and I would show up first (like I always did) we had drank all the beer club beers (each week, for the beer club, the pub would order a case of micro or some other weird beer, and to make the club you had to drink one) so everyone who didn't get one had to do a make up. Yes, I miss my dad

Unfortunatly my father spent my childhood and early adulthood getting knee walking drunk with anyone he could find.

Not sure which is worse, not having a father to share memores with or having really crappy memories of an abusive drunk father?

I envie hearing stories about father son good times and those that have good fathers you really should take time to see or talk to your dad.
