Can we just WAVE goodbye to this thread please SmileWavy

Dustin, you should lighten up. My take on these posts is that they are written tongue in cheek and are basically from a bunch of guys just joking around. The reason I say this is because I have met many, many Porsche enthusiasts of all models and and have noticed that every last one of them is friendly and loves to talk about Porsches in general and their own car in particular. I have never met an enthusiast of Porsches who I would call a jerk. Never.

The fact that every last one of us who posts on this and other Porsche forums has taken the time to find the website, sign up, and post tells me that we are all enthusiasts, not mere posers looking for status. Those types don't even know or care about this forum.

Some people on this board have made some pretty harsh comments but I believe that if you were to ask these same people if they REALLY believed what they had written then I firmly believe that each and every one of them would tell you no, that the comments were simply written in jest.

The Porsche people I have met during my life, and there have been many, have all been genuinely nice, interesting, and fun to be around. I would not call any of them jerks.

If the general public thinks we're jerks, they just don't really know us.

Don't be too quick to stereotype women.
The whole idea for the post was a stereotype ferchrissakes. The thing about stereotypes is that they obviously don't apply to every single person, but enough of them for there to be an obvious grain of truth, which is what makes them humorous. Do you doubt that hard core female Porsche enthusiasts are rare birds?

If nobody could spot anything true-to-life about the original post, it wouldn't have been funny, and it would have died a sad (I've enjoyed it for one) death about 16 pages ago.

It's been funny to watch the 914 and 944 guys come charging in to defend their erstwhile honor. Possibly we would have done the same thing if someone started knocking 911's on a 914 or 944 board.

The thing that people don't seem to get is that everybody has a favorite. Since this is a 911 board, guess what people's favorites are? Duh! It's OK if we communicate this back and forth among ourselves. It's OK if partisans of other models don't agree. I can see how they'd want to chip in here if they feel we're dumping on them.

Just realize it's about fun. Untwist your panties and realize that every 911 owner will not hesitate (from what I've seen here thus far) to wave to a 914, 924 or 944 owner. We don't like your cars better, but you don't like ours better either, so what's the problem?

Nothing a little beer wouldn't solve...

Send me a bimbo that will take of me in a warm shower at midnite for the next three weeks.....

THAT is as ridiculous as this whole thread is.....

jwetering 07-24-2005 07:14 PM

Except Cayennes - I genuinely don't like Cayennes. Not too many Cayenne owners seem to get my car either. The rest I like.SmileWavy SmileWavy

Status owners no nothing of the passion we Porsche lovers share for our rides. So don't be dissapointed if your wave is not returned by them. You are in the club, they are not.

All of us Pelicans share a common memory. When we were young, we saw our first Porsche, and a life-long love affair was born. We all held our breath and dreamed of the day when we would take the driver's seat in our first, very own Porsche.

Some of us struck it rich and bought GTs. Some of us had to save up every penny to buy a 924 or 914, or like myself a 1968 911L beater.

The thing that seperates us wavers from the non-wavers is that we have a passion for our cars and want to keep them on the road.

The wave is an acknowledgement that we both had that same breathless moment as children, when we saw our very first Porsche.

Glen, Christian:

Had a great time visiting with you guys on Sunday at the concours. The T-Shirt is great, and the fun conversation we shared just epitomizes the reason why we are all here.

Bite me. A very good friend is on her 3rd Porsche, which happens to be a Boxster (the other 2 were 914s) she was actually very hesitant to join the boards (Pelican & Rennlist) as well as PCA in fear that she wouldn't be taken seriously or the other members/subscribers were a bunch of middle-aged jerks - not exactly disproving that with this stupid wave rules.

Dustin-Does the words "parody" or "Sarcasm" or "Tongue in Cheek" mean anything ? My WIFE happens to be a WOMAN (!), and a fairly militant feminist. Even SHE was at least mildly amused, and subsequently violated me with a Susan B. Anthony biography weighing perhaps 12 pounds.

glenndeweirdt 07-25-2005 06:04 AM

Larry and Christian,
You guys are great! I spotted Kermit about a mile away! I think your "Viper Green" needs more chromium yellow to be correct!! (just kidding). Look forward to nest Chicago PCA get together! I gave Jim Jacisin a T-shirt and he loved it!
Glenn

DustinTarditi 07-25-2005 06:33 AM

Glenn,

Last I checked, "Bite Me" isn't a terribly venomous retort... my point was that if this attitude (from the "top 10") could easily (simply look at this thread) be understood as derisive in nature.
I was just "jabbing" back. I know that this wasn't meant to be any sort of "official policy" or 99 Theses or anything profound like that.

For people who seem to have such sharp wit and sense of sarcasm, we're awfully touchy...
Beers to all - no harm no foul - how's that then?

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming...

1) I hear you can reduce engine temps with the "Cool Collar" any advice on this product?

2) What are the best tires for my 911?

3) I want to buy a cheap 911 - what's the BEST model year?

glenndeweirdt 07-25-2005 06:45 AM

Justin,
Well Said.

We have all had some fun. NOW LETS KILL THIS THREAD AND GET BACK TO WHAT THIS BBS IS INTENDED FOR- at least until the next mindless diversion!

Glenn out.

If you read my follow up post, you might feel a little better.

I hereby take back everything I said in my original post. I further submit that the 914 is an awesome sports car, worthy of the highest respect, and quite cute if it still has paint on it. Driven properly, it will wax any other car on the track. Howzat?

Dave,

I guess I missed your 2nd posting..
I'm calmed down now.
thanks

Agreed - everyone has their favorite model of Porsche here. No problems - no worries.

What I have a difficult time understanding is why some people have the need to state how the 'other' models are inferior. Then it becomes a 'putting someone else down in order to puff-up one's own self esteem' type of argument, which, IMHO, is never effective.

I've never understood this type of ego boost. How does pointing out the falicies of someone / something else make you / your thing better? If your "thing" is truly better than my "thing," its virtues will reveal themselves without the need to put down my "thing."

Or, if we must debate and argue over who's "thing" is the best, isn't it more effective to point out your thing's good points instead of pointing out my things weak points?

Clear as mud, eh? And I'm just speaking from the stricktly philosophical point of view here....

Wayne:

LOL!!!:D

(I told Glenn I was done posting on this thread, but I couldn't resist.)

Reminds me of a girl I took out on a blind date in college. (and I wish I had been - blind, that is.)

She wasn't that great, but with a smaller nose, long blonde hair, a boob job, a smaller tush, about 50 more intelligence points and about 75 pounds less weight, she would have been fantastic!!!!!

RarlyL8 07-27-2005 04:04 AM

I couldn't have put it better. ANY car can be a contender if you throw enough money at it.

Joe Bob 07-27-2005 07:20 AM

Geeezzz, Rarly as one who HAS tossed $$$ at a Porsche you should realize that the joint ventured 914 was handicapped at the start by the factory.

There were many FACTORY upgrades that were available to bring the 914 back up to it's original potential.....the M471 kit included the flares, body stiffeners, bigger brakes, etc....the Lemans winning 914/6 were far from stock.

The short lived 916 had MANY 911 parts....

Too many people buy into the NARP (not a real porsche) syndrome....

armandodiaz 07-27-2005 07:46 AM

That's is so amazingly true:
When I was riding around in my 911, everyone looked and admired. Since I truned that into a track car, and bought a 944 as a DD, I get no lookers and dare I say, I'm almost embarrased to drive.

My 2c:
the 914s get a nod because they can potencially be a monster track car.
911s before 76 get sympathy wave (rust)
928, 944s get eye contact(some buy them just so they can say they have a Porsche) and sympathy wave (for all the work and money they end up putting into them).
968 get an energetic wave for being Porsche's most underestimated car.
