if you've ever driven a 914... you'd get it... you'd understand... I've driven a 911, 924,and a 944... and liked them all, BUT the 914 is a truly different animal, I've never seen or heard of a car that handles like a 914... though many have tried to duplicate the looks and handling...

I might add that the 914 owners are at least all down to earth and friendly, they can keep their shirt, I wont be able to read it from my rear view mirror anyway as I pass them all by. Let them read my 914Club sticker on my back window since that is all they will see.

A list of whom you're supposed to wave at or not? Geez, I never knew there was a "pecking order" for Porsches. Water cooled or not, they are built for the person who wants to be a driver rather than a passenger.

I am also a part of the Corvette community, where enthusiasts are taught to wave at all Corvettes, and encourage first time owners to do the same. After all, they may not be snobs who bought their car just to be seen in it... they may simply be unaware of the Wave tradition.

I wave at all Porsches I see, whenever I'm driving the 911 or the Vette. I wave at Corvettes also, as well as any older sports car that I happen to see (there are MG's and Austin-Healeys, etc. in my neighborhood).

And I'll be sure to wave once I get Babydoll (a '74 914 2.0) back on the road. Call it ugly if you want, but the 914 is an amazing car in the twisties. Too bad it never got much respect, but it's really sad that it doesn't get respect within the Porsche community.

Sorry, but other Porsches have since passed it by. The current crop of twin-turbo 911s are faster, more advanced, and perform better--if you judge performance by things like 0-60 times, braking distance, skidpad G's...

Heck, even the "lowly" 914 performs better than the 928 if you are talking about quick transitions. Which is, as my "esteemed" 914 colleagues have just pointed out, what autoX is all about.

A buddy of mine had a 94 (?) 928 GT. Heckuva car. Got up and moved. Sailed through long sweepers very nicely. Made lovely V8 racket while doing so. Did not like rapid changes of direction, and felt (and was!) very heavy compared to my 914.


You can bow if you like--just make sure I can get the heck out of the way while you lean down and take your eyes off the road.


Funny, the same thing can be said for the 912, in its day. And the 914, in its day. And the 924, in its day. And I think even the Boxster, today. Wait--you mean the less-expensive cars sell more than the more-expensive ones?? Wow--I guess that whole "supply and demand" thing they taught us about in high school really does work!!


...Oh, I agree with the "sympathy wave" for the middies. Mostly because they've spent a whole ton of time and money eliminating the original problems of the US-spec 75-77 cars. (Especially the CA-spec ones!)

...Come to think of it, the "sympathy wave" is not inappropriate for 914s, too! Their owners fight rust, cracking cylinder heads, funky analog-electronic fuel injection, and the "Not A Real Porsche" attitude from those who drive other Porsches. If that doesn't deserve sympathy, I don't know what does!!

And, don't let the lawyers among the group give you a hard time about the legality of using the logo. Yes, we are violating the rightful use of copyright (unless we attribute the logo and ownership to Porsche North America) but do you really think that Porsche will chase us for 20 T-Shirts? Naaaah.

Just don't go to the next Parade with a car full of 100 in a variety of sizes.

People with this type of morals to judge others on their posessions is shallow and petty. Do all the owners of the type of cars allowed for a wave want to be part of a special club? Did they buy their car because *you* may approve of them? Obviously that is why you bought yours.

914's are for me, I love them and will always have one. That is my taste and if you care or don't doesn't do squat for me. You like your cars, great. If you are an enthusiast you deserve a wave. I like all Porsches, all of them.
