Technically speaking (2) how does the wave go ? .. .
is it; elbow, elbow, wrist, wrist, wrist . ..or the other way around? I wouldn't want to risk offending anyone. |
Can't we all just get along? ;) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1121900109.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1121900426.jpg

Easy there, Capri. You're falling right into the "my car is faster and better" trap that you accuse so many 911 owners of. The last two posts you've made have gone down that road.
Most of us love ALL Porsches. I know I do. However, to imply that it is somehow wrong to have a favorite is unrealistic. We can all love Porsches in general but have definite favorites. You love the 944 and I love the 911. So what? You and I can argue all day about horsepower, power to weight ratios, front engine vs. mid engine vs. rear engine, water vs. air, but does it really matter? NO. We all love our own particular models and should respect the opinions of others. With that said, My Carrera is better than your 944...:p Just kidding.SmileWavy |
Wow Eddie, that is a sweet looking 914. Let me know if you need someone to give it a little exercise! ;)

Wow...
I'm 17, but it seems I'm more mature than some people here. All our cars can be boiled down to a common description: durable, purpose-built automobiles with sporting qualities and little quirks. That's it. My 944 with a cloth interior and next to no options; or your 996 with all the toys...they both fit the definition. I'm ashamed to see 911 owners talking down, and 914/44 owners challenging 911s back. Meanwhile, those universally-derided "redneck" Vette owners actually relax, celebrate the cars, DON'T bait each other with seemingly joking statements, and seem to get along. If you think your car's something special and you actually need to go prove yourself, listen to Teddy Roosevelt: "Speak softly and carry a big stick." Amazing to see such wise words ignored. |
Shhh...would you like a t-shirt?

Close this thread??? You gotta be kidding. It just keeps getting funnier.

On the 'teener: Fun little go-cart. Especially with a lightly hopped-up engine (still BOSCH D-Jet EFI) and a '78 911 front suspension. Turn-in is instantaneous and the steering is so wonderfully communicative that it feels like holding a tie rod in each hand. I have never been able to get the car to do anything truly "dangerous". It's a great little sportscar, like an MG or a Triumph except that the electronics work, it's weathertight, and the chassis design doesn't date back to horse-and-buggy days. Ugly? Depends. Most people think so and that's fine. For some reason I've always liked 'em though, and besides, I drive it because it always leaves a smile on my face with its minimalism. On the 951: If it's not a Porsche, then it's the best damn Audi ever built. :p It doesn't look original since the shape was copied by almost every late 70's and 80's sportscar (blatantly so in the case of the RX-7) but again, who cares? The driving feeling cannot be imitated, turn-in isn't as fast as the 'teener with all the weight at the ends of the car, but the balance is perfect and it can be coaxed into just enough oversteer. As for lusting after a water-cooled 911, no thanks. The 951 borders on too civilised as it is. The holy grail for me would be the Ruf "Yellow Bird" (1987 Ruf CTR), but a nice 1993 Turbo 3.6 (last of the RWD 911 Turbos) would be fun too. The purist in me can't help but know that I'd end up bypassing both for a 930 Turbo though. It just has more soul. Wave to me or don't, I'm enjoying myself driving. :) |
When driving my 74 911 Targa, I don't need a sympathy wave. Chances are if you are in an early SC, I'll be going by you.
How about a hey there wave for all air cooled 911's. Here in Norcal, Boxes are driven by chicks who are totally clueless. I'll have to tell you that most 996 drivers don't even look over when I wave. |

very refreshing comments to hear from your generation..kudos to you. i wouldn't be too discouraged from what you've read. the very vast majority of this talk is all tongue in cheek and all but the singly most immature of us get along very, very well, have fun and share our car passion. it's all too easy for us to sometimes misconstrue one another soley on the basis of written word when we can't see the person we're addressing standing in front of us, but we're all a really great group..99 out of 100 of us would pull over and immediately offer a hand to another member with a sick car, no matter what model. stick around..some of us get carried away from time to time, but we're just people and that's what we do. anyway, it's very nice to have a level-headed young man around to help keep us adults in line too from time to time..we all still have lots of 'kid' in us too.. ryan |
So I just started from the beginning of this thread and read through them all. Try it. Start from the beginning, and read through them. Glenn's original post is FULL of humor, some comments were self effacing. The next few posts were in agreement with Glenn, all taking the original post at its face value: Humor. Then, notice when the thread turns sour. All of a sudden, BANG. It turns in to a clusterf#ck of egos. This post has two points, in conclusion:
#1: Don't take yourself too seriously. That'll be the death of ya. #2: The shirts are now available with the list upside-down. That way, when you're driving and come across another P-car, you can just look down and read the correct salutation immediately, therefore avoiding the embarrassing misfortune of, for instance, saluting a Cayenne. Thank you for your time and understanding. Gassy. |
Very well said, Ryan.

So yeah, my car's heritage is open to question, and it's a dog in a straight line, but it's still a lot more fun than a Camry...and that keeps me coming back for more. :D No true enthusiast could argue with that. |
You guys {at least some} dont get it ! My first porsche was a 1963 356 super 90. I remember when the new model 1965 911 wasnt considered a "real" Porsche by some. Then after a few years some didnt think the 356 was a real Porsche. I've had 356s 914s 911s 912s 924s 924Ss 944 and I've loved all of them. Each has had it's strong points. Each has had some weak points. Each could only preform as good as my driving skill. Much thanks to the Yellow C-GT as he flicked his lights as we past ,me in my 1987 924S. Some people DO get it!
|
The only thing to 'get' in this entire thread was that Glen was just having a laugh- partly at his own expense- and pulling fun at obvious cliches.
It was soooooooo not about which Porsche is better than any other. I can't believe anyone feels the need to defend their car. My other half laughed out loud when I read her the bit about women & Porsches. Lighten up everyone. It's supposed to be fun. Matt out. |
Tell me about it...Jeezus!

Hey, lighten up out there!!!! SmileWavy I'll smile and wave at ALL of you (unless you're in a Cayenne  ) larry |
If it is a Porsche, it gets a wave or a flash from me. Period. Including Cayennes. Afterall, the Pepperwagon literally kept the company going financially a couple of years ago, when 996 and 986 sales were slumping.
Perhaps if we continue waving at ALL Porsches, those 'clueless drivers,' (regardless of what model they are driving) will take notice and realize there are more Porsche models out there than they thought. -Z-man. |
Z-
I getcha, but the women that are driving the Cayenne's in our neck of the woods are driving an SUV, they aren't driving a Porsche - you know what I mean??? larry |

One thing I have noticed, and I hate to say, is the the ricers (street racers) seem to really notice my replica 924 Carrera GT - I think it's the bolt on flares and front nose vents - most can't figure out what it is and when you tell them it's 924 they give you a strange look - and even stranger when you tell 'em it only puts out 150hp (but that's pretty good for a 25 year old 4-banger) Not that I ever hang out with ricers, but we do run into them at some events. You are SOOOOO right! Those things are used as grocery/baby haulers by suburbanites who want more staus than the big wheeled Escalades can offer. Get out of their way when your in the school pick up line! Glenn |

I suppose that makes sense. They are using a race-inspired car to do mundane things. Wait a second, Porsches are meant to be driven on the racetrack... So, from now on, I should only wave at Porsches that I know are being driven the way Dr. Porsche expected them to be driven -- IE: RACED on a track. So I guess unless the car is on a trailer on the way to the track, or I'm driving by them on the track, I have no business waving at them. (Side note: when I do get a point-by at DE's, I do a quick 'wave of thanks' as I'm passing the car - be it a 911/914/944/Cayenne...etc.) Besides, you never know when that grocery-getter soccer mom will turn into a Porsche junkie -- all it takes is one lap around a track or autox... And while we're talking of the Pepper-wagon, the latest 'step child' Porsche, I have seen this car at both DE's and autocrosses. Even went for a couple of rides in them. They perform remarkable, despite their size and weight. It is as if they defy the laws of physics. There is definately a good doze of Porsche DNA in those cars... Just throwin' some oil on the fire... -Z. |
For the record... more men then women drive Cayenne's in my neck of the woods (Hermosa, Manhattan & El Segundo). I'd wave but I don't have a Porsche yet and I don't believe you guys would wave back... :)
Can I get a girl's shirt made? :D |

OK, when I am taking Kermit to the grocery story -- Don't wave at me, or give me the two thumbs up. larry |
Perhaps the real reason that you old fat rich 911 owners won't wave to us 944 owners is you know that we are mostlikely on our way to ** edited for content. ** -Z-man If anyone does not wave back when someone waves to them they have issues. Chill out man it is just a wave!!

Larry -
If you wear your helmet whist picking up milk and bread at the local foodstore, I'll be sure to wave at ya. :) Even if you're driving a Cayenne. -Z. |

I think a lot of 911 owners started out as 914/924/944 owners. My first Porsche was a 77 1/2 924. I remember how cool it felt when I would get a wave from a 911 owner while driving the 924. I have proceeded to own 2 911's (80SC, 70T) and now a Boxster, and I try to give a little of that friendly attitude back that I experienced with my 924. No, I don't ALWAYS wave first (although I often do) to every other Porsche out there, but I NEVER fail to at least return a wave that comes my way from any Porsche owner.

First off, I am 25 which is not old yet, second I am definitely not fat just more well rounded and third I am far from rich with respect to money because I spend a good part of my income on my 911. However, I am rich in so many other ways, one of these is I have a 911 and absolutely love it. If you want to win an argument, attack the argument, not the person. Here is something for you to read up on ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ad_hominem |
Okay, I can't read everything in here it is just too much!!!!
I know one thing and there has to be someone out there just like me, when I see a Porsche no matter what model or year I wish I was driving it! I love all Porsches! Especially ones well taken care of. Yes, some guys driving new ones don't get it. My goal in life is to own the following models: 1) 356 2) 68-73 911, Done 3) 914 4) 911 SC, Done 5) 944 Turbo, Done 6) 928 S4/GT 7) 993 8) Boxster 9) 997 S Yes, I know that this does not include everything, but includes a lot of the different models out there. Right now I am working on saving up enough money for a 997 S, remember it is hard to talk trash about a Normally Aspirated car that road and track tested at 3.8 - 60mph!!!! P.S. I want a Shirt!!!!!!!!!!! |
Gruupe hug.
|
One thing that should be added:
Wave at any VW bus doing more than 50mph. He's either heroic (deserving a wave) or 911 powered anyway (also deserving). :D Regards, Klaus |
Hell, I'm having so much fun driving, I'll wave at anyone.
