My post was tongue in cheek. I was hinting at the SC. The original posting ended with the additional words "even an SC ;) " I backed over them before submitting the reply.
Point is that you can make a Radio Flyer into an auto-x champ with the right parts. Our old cars just don't measure up to todays standards. Even the mighty 930 in stock form would be dusted by many common cars of today. As far as "not a real Porsche" goes, that is just a goofy statement. If there is a crest on the hood it is a real Porsche and I want to talk to you about it. I love 'em all. |

That's OK--if we add up what everyone says is "not a real Porsche", about the only real ones we wind up with are the 550s and 904s. Which are awesome cars, but the "Real Porsche Club" would be a very very small club in that case... ;) --DD |
Oh boy, here we go...........
|
No, I didn't know that the 914s were missing the crest.
They are still interesting cars. I'd love to mod one for auto-x use. Economic track whore (maybe trailor track whore, track slut, or track lot lizard?) The Cayenne makes me cringe. It is a real Porsche but it is not a sportscar. Many sportscar folks (like myself) have a dislike for anything SUV. But it IS a Porsche. So if I see one I will talk to you about it. But probably not for very long. |
Yup....also came w/o a radio or AC....I always love arguing with some evilbay weenie when he claims that his crappy delaer installed am/fm is oem and in concour condition....
|
I've said it 100 times. Porsche HAD to come up with the Cayenne, how else are you going to tow your track car? I also still believe they should Baja the Cayenne, like the 959s.
I still am trying to stomache the 4 door coming out. Since they own Audi and VW they should have left that up to them. I also heard rumors of Porshce buying out Fiat, which owns Ferrari and Masaratti. That's where the high-pro 4 doors belong(with Masaratti). |
Market diversifaction...coke, diet coke, water...gotta love it
|
Naturally I always wave at the 914s...and pretty much any other Porsche I see. Granted it's VERY rare that I get a wave or even a glance back from a Boxster, 996 or Cayanne.
Then again I always thought were were supposed to flash our brights at eachother, not wave. |

The notion of Porsche buying out Fiat is laughable. Fiat is huge, and Porsche is tiny, relatively speaking. Fiat may be hard up for money, but they're not so hard up that the (relative) pittance that Porsche could scrape together would be able to buy controlling interest. Hell, GM just paid Fiat two billion dollars to get out of having to buy them!!! --DD PS--Hi, Brian! Didn't realize that was you! |
The Cayenne is a "sports car" or we forgeting what the 'S' stands for in SUV:D
|
WOW! now i'm almost embarrassed to drive my 944, not because of the car, but after reading thru this post! geez, what a bunch of dicks i hope not not to be associated with! not all, of course just those that really size up another car enthusiast by the make , model and year they drive, wow. i acknowledge anyone, from early american muscle to a new hybrid, (excluding the cayenne, of course). if i see you looking at me or my car i'll wave, wave back or don't, you're just lettin me know if you're a regular guy (or girl) , or a dickhead. happy motoring
|
j/k about the cayenne, in case you didn't realize. although i loathe all suv's, at least it's not a hummer
|
CallMethWander.....
Screw those guys...... All Porsches are great... BTW: Wayne from Pelican AND Dave from famous TRE Motorsports swear by their 914s.... not all here are Aholes. SvK |
I've decided not to wave to anybody who posted on this thread...
|
I only occasionally get the opportunity to see a Porsche on the road in my neck of the woods. But there are a couple around. Yesterday was a big day. I saw a 944 and a new Boxter within 5 minutes of each other.
I waved to both. 944 guy gave me a wave & smile. Boxter guy (with his trohpy wife) petended not to see me (I know he did). My take...three nice cars, one @sshole owner. |
No doubt the Boxster guy was from Illinois! In Wisconsin, any female with her own teeth is considered a "trophy wife"
Sorry Dan, could not resist! |
I even wave a Corvettes, A.M.C. Pacers & Gremlins, Yugos, any Studebaker, all aircooled VW's, De Loreans, Datsun 1600's & 2000's, all Woodies (any make), any& all cars built before 1940, I.H. Scouts, Unimogs & any Anfibicar (that car/boat combo thing).....
Oh...& 58 Impalas, especially convertables |

An ol Steve McQueen salut to any Porsche that crosses my path - if you're cool consider it in the spirit it was given in the film - if you're an ass, well you know what it means then.

Now Let's see, When I was 18 I had a 356 , at 25 a 914. Then at about 30 a 944 and a differant 914. then after that a 924., some were along the way a fiat, Then a 65 mustang And now a 924S. With each passing ownership was I a jerk at one time and one cool dude at another? I,m lost in the logic. Let's kill this Please!! P.S I forgot the 68' 912 it the age of 40 something.

WOW! I like the T shirt idea.......but all the freaking discord this thread has caused.
Some may be in jest, but I think there is some real antagonism here! Some porsche owners sound like real pricks! I owned 2 914s LOVED them! But got crap for not having a "real Porsche" Now I own a 78 targa LOVE it! but get crap for not having a coupe, or having an SC or a turbo or ( fill in blank) I also own 2 Datsun 1600 roadsters, A 66 and a 70. No one ever gives me crap for those!!! people just say COOL CAR! The datsun crowd seems to apreciate all models, be it 67.5 2000, or late model 1600s or 510s or 240s, 260s 280s 300ZX, etc. There is so much less bickering and flaming because your car of choice is not the "right one" I think ALL porsches are cool! Roman 78 PORSCHE SC TARGA 66 DATSUN 1600 ROADSTER 70 DATSUN 1600 ROADSTER |
I wave at all other porsches, not like there are a bunch around where I live. I stopped waving at the single cayenne in the area. I just get a confused look back.
Mike |
By the way.....I like all Porsches :) Just having fun, not serious
|
It goes both ways, I've had some aircooled 911s not even see me in the Boxster. I'm perfectly happy to give a wave or a nod.
The SC has been at home in the garage for a couple weeks now. It gets more attention, but that might be because it's about 3 times as loud as the 986 is. |
this thread..is back..must..must..phone help..must..help..

Glenn -- finally, someone put into words what I've been thinking ! Now, how about a hierarchy of "waves, which allows for modulation based on mood, driving conditions, car conditioin, whether or not a hot chick is driving, etc., regardless of car. Someone should put together a matrix.
Now, for my list, ranked in order of respect given: 1. Double Flash of Bright Lights 2. Single Flash of Brights 3. Wave 4. Head Nod (up or down, though up is a bit cooler) 5. Eye Contact / Slight Smile 6. Lack of Scowl / Avoidance of Eye Contact |
I do the nod or half steering wheel wave a lot. Don't flash the brights.
Lack of scowling... that one might be difficult for me to accomplish. Grr. :D |
At the risk of adding to this bad dream of a thread, I thought I'd give my experience of not to interpret too much into a wave or a lack of a wave.
I was driving my 77 911 (one of those despised middies :D ) and was focusing to my right at approaching cross traffic, more of a peripherial vision look, my head was still straight (had sunglasses on, so you wouldn't know I was looking to my right). Anyway, at the last minute, I see a bright yellow newer 2003ish turbo passing right by me. The driver is an overweight middle age guy (I'm overweight but not quite middle age :D ). He is waving to me and smiling, I notice him too late and don't get my hand up, just see him go by. Probably giving him a deadpanned looked w/ my sunglasses on. Now I feel like the horses a$$, looking like a air-cooled Porsche snob that won't wave at any of those new water cooled Porsche wanna-be's. When really I'll wave to anybody and am usually looking for other Porsches whenever I'm driving. Who knows what he thought, but I hope an inadvertent missed wave on my part didn't sour him to folks driving older p-cars. Likewise, if someone in a different model Porsche doesn't wave to me, I don't write off that whole crowd either. My $0.02 |
