Whenever I don't see any Porsches on the road for extended periods of time, I look in the rear view mirror and wave at myself.

Except at night, in which case I flash myself ;-)

Even though I said 'Matt Out', those last three comments were more on topic than most of what I've read. Lol.
note to self - stop reading thread lest you be drawn into their endlessly circular arguements- Edit. Not fat or old either. Or rich. I can only hope. |
I think most of you should get bent. The rest? Get arced.

Saw an early 911 - possibly a 2.4, maybe a 2.7 (chrome around the windshield) on the way to work today. I waved. Without hesitation, he waved back.
My sense of belonging in the Porsche community has been restored. (Most of you may not know this, but I suffer from low self esteem. Spent nights up wondering, "Am I a really a Porsche owner or not?!?" ) -Z-man. |
Yesterday, while driving my 1970 911E, I saw a silver Carrera GT and just to see what would happen, I waved to him. He didn't wave, but gave me this look:  30 minutes later, I got the same response from an old guy in a 356 Speedster. I guess my lowly 911 just isn't up to snuff.

11 - Carrera GT and 911 GT2 Turbo owners get the "We're not worthy!" worship bowing motion.

I like the "ten rules" as is. I think it's very funny and, for the most part, true. (Glenn, you had me nailed on the 914 and 944 look-very funny.) You gotta admit; most people do look at the mid-years with pity or derision. Just because we mid-year owners know better doesn't mean everyone else does.SmileWavy |
Thanks Sebring. I did not intend to create this uproar. Just had
a few extra minutes of time at the office and this seemed like a better use of it than masturbation (although that would have only taken a minute or two). |
whenever i drive around in my 951, i'll wave at any year 911 or any other porsche for that matter, i have yet to get a wave back.

It would appear that the Pelican Parts 911 Technical Forum has answered every question in the entirety of Porschedom. So if you need help go to the archives.
This is what is left. Morons from other boards coming over to troll for insults. The intelligent "other model" Porsche owners have better things to do. They are emotionally content having bigger penises. Wayne should have better things to do with his bandwidth than waste it like this. Glen, your original post was funny. Anyone who has followed the follies of mid-year 911s got the joke and should not have been offended. And for those idiots that haven't lived long enough to understand it, there just happens to be a segment of human psychosis that puts on an aire of snootiness, intensional or not. If you own a Ferrari you MUST look down on Porsche owners who MUST be looking down on Corvette owners who MUST be .... an on and on. All the whining in the world isn't gonna change a thing. It just makes YOU look stupid. |
My son saw a TV segment on Monster trucks and asked if we could do that to the Porsche. I told him that if we did, Daddy would be allowed to use his computer to talk to other Porsche owners becuase they would mock us and maybe be mean to us.
His answer, "thats OK Dad, we can just roll over them if they are mean to us!". I think the sound of a 911 crunching under the wheels would sound like crunching of the wolf spider my wife stomped on with bare feet! |

As to a waste of bandwidth....let's dig up the "I coulda had a V8 thread" again..... |
1) "A special note about women in Porsche's: It is probably their boyfriend's, or they are a dyke, or they are stuck up and won't wave back anyway"
Bite me. A very good friend is on her 3rd Porsche, which happens to be a Boxster (the other 2 were 914s) she was actually very hesitant to join the boards (Pelican & Rennlist) as well as PCA in fear that she wouldn't be taken seriously or the other members/subscribers were a bunch of middle-aged jerks - not exactly disproving that with this stupid wave rules. 2) "you 2.7 guys are a militant bunch" You bet - gotta stick together... from the sound of it, sometimes, you would think we own different makes of vehicle. Frankly, I've seen more rat-bag SCs running around than I have thrashed middies. There may be something said about the SCs lasting longer, but it says nothing of the "pride in your ride" 3) If you like what you see: wave... if you don't: forget it. We're supposed to be a bunch of enthusiasts here, but I see SOOO much clique-ish behavior among model years it's crazy. I paid much less for my 911 than a guy buying a 997 - does that mean he likes his car more? Or that he's a better enthusiast? We need to get over ourselves. Maybe we need to get some of the comraderie that Jeeps share (there used to be a LOT of dissention among models in that community) now it generally boils down to a simple statement: "It's a Jeep Thing - you wouldn't understand." We can adopt the premise: "It's a Porsche Thing: Sie verstehen nicht" -Cheers |
Great to meet you today, Glenn. Hope you like the shirts. Lotta nice cars there today (Chicago PCA picnic)
On the way home, waved to a 914, he waved back. Waved to a Boxster, he looked at me like I was nuts. Anywhatever, nice to meet you, and nice to see you Larry and Kermit. |

Can we just WAVE goodbye to this thread please SmileWavy

Dustin, you should lighten up. My take on these posts is that they are written tongue in cheek and are basically from a bunch of guys just joking around. The reason I say this is because I have met many, many Porsche enthusiasts of all models and and have noticed that every last one of them is friendly and loves to talk about Porsches in general and their own car in particular. I have never met an enthusiast of Porsches who I would call a jerk. Never.
The fact that every last one of us who posts on this and other Porsche forums has taken the time to find the website, sign up, and post tells me that we are all enthusiasts, not mere posers looking for status. Those types don't even know or care about this forum. Some people on this board have made some pretty harsh comments but I believe that if you were to ask these same people if they REALLY believed what they had written then I firmly believe that each and every one of them would tell you no, that the comments were simply written in jest. The Porsche people I have met during my life, and there have been many, have all been genuinely nice, interesting, and fun to be around. I would not call any of them jerks. If the general public thinks we're jerks, they just don't really know us. |

If nobody could spot anything true-to-life about the original post, it wouldn't have been funny, and it would have died a sad (I've enjoyed it for one) death about 16 pages ago. It's been funny to watch the 914 and 944 guys come charging in to defend their erstwhile honor. Possibly we would have done the same thing if someone started knocking 911's on a 914 or 944 board. The thing that people don't seem to get is that everybody has a favorite. Since this is a 911 board, guess what people's favorites are? Duh! It's OK if we communicate this back and forth among ourselves. It's OK if partisans of other models don't agree. I can see how they'd want to chip in here if they feel we're dumping on them. Just realize it's about fun. Untwist your panties and realize that every 911 owner will not hesitate (from what I've seen here thus far) to wave to a 914, 924 or 944 owner. We don't like your cars better, but you don't like ours better either, so what's the problem? Nothing a little beer wouldn't solve... ianc Edited fer spellin' |
Send me a bimbo that will take of me in a warm shower at midnite for the next three weeks.....
THAT is as ridiculous as this whole thread is..... |
Except Cayennes - I genuinely don't like Cayennes. Not too many Cayenne owners seem to get my car either. The rest I like.SmileWavy SmileWavy

Status owners no nothing of the passion we Porsche lovers share for our rides. So don't be dissapointed if your wave is not returned by them. You are in the club, they are not.
All of us Pelicans share a common memory. When we were young, we saw our first Porsche, and a life-long love affair was born. We all held our breath and dreamed of the day when we would take the driver's seat in our first, very own Porsche. Some of us struck it rich and bought GTs. Some of us had to save up every penny to buy a 924 or 914, or like myself a 1968 911L beater. The thing that seperates us wavers from the non-wavers is that we have a passion for our cars and want to keep them on the road. The wave is an acknowledgement that we both had that same breathless moment as children, when we saw our very first Porsche. SvK |
Well said svonkampen.:)

Glen, Christian:
Had a great time visiting with you guys on Sunday at the concours. The T-Shirt is great, and the fun conversation we shared just epitomizes the reason why we are all here. SmileWavy larry |

Larry and Christian,
You guys are great! I spotted Kermit about a mile away! I think your "Viper Green" needs more chromium yellow to be correct!! (just kidding). Look forward to nest Chicago PCA get together! I gave Jim Jacisin a T-shirt and he loved it! Glenn |
Glenn,
Last I checked, "Bite Me" isn't a terribly venomous retort... my point was that if this attitude (from the "top 10") could easily (simply look at this thread) be understood as derisive in nature. I was just "jabbing" back. I know that this wasn't meant to be any sort of "official policy" or 99 Theses or anything profound like that. For people who seem to have such sharp wit and sense of sarcasm, we're awfully touchy... Beers to all - no harm no foul - how's that then? Now back to your regularly scheduled programming... 1) I hear you can reduce engine temps with the "Cool Collar" any advice on this product? 2) What are the best tires for my 911? 3) I want to buy a cheap 911 - what's the BEST model year? |
Justin,
Well Said. We have all had some fun. NOW LETS KILL THIS THREAD AND GET BACK TO WHAT THIS BBS IS INTENDED FOR- at least until the next mindless diversion! Glenn out. |

What I have a difficult time understanding is why some people have the need to state how the 'other' models are inferior. Then it becomes a 'putting someone else down in order to puff-up one's own self esteem' type of argument, which, IMHO, is never effective. I've never understood this type of ego boost. How does pointing out the falicies of someone / something else make you / your thing better? If your "thing" is truly better than my "thing," its virtues will reveal themselves without the need to put down my "thing." Or, if we must debate and argue over who's "thing" is the best, isn't it more effective to point out your thing's good points instead of pointing out my things weak points? Clear as mud, eh? And I'm just speaking from the stricktly philosophical point of view here.... -Z. |
Wayne:
LOL!!!:D (I told Glenn I was done posting on this thread, but I couldn't resist.) Reminds me of a girl I took out on a blind date in college. (and I wish I had been - blind, that is.) She wasn't that great, but with a smaller nose, long blonde hair, a boob job, a smaller tush, about 50 more intelligence points and about 75 pounds less weight, she would have been fantastic!!!!! larry |
I couldn't have put it better. ANY car can be a contender if you throw enough money at it.
|
Geeezzz, Rarly as one who HAS tossed $$$ at a Porsche you should realize that the joint ventured 914 was handicapped at the start by the factory.
There were many FACTORY upgrades that were available to bring the 914 back up to it's original potential.....the M471 kit included the flares, body stiffeners, bigger brakes, etc....the Lemans winning 914/6 were far from stock. The short lived 916 had MANY 911 parts.... Too many people buy into the NARP (not a real porsche) syndrome.... |
That's is so amazingly true:
When I was riding around in my 911, everyone looked and admired. Since I truned that into a track car, and bought a 944 as a DD, I get no lookers and dare I say, I'm almost embarrased to drive. My 2c: the 914s get a nod because they can potencially be a monster track car. 911s before 76 get sympathy wave (rust) 928, 944s get eye contact(some buy them just so they can say they have a Porsche) and sympathy wave (for all the work and money they end up putting into them). 968 get an energetic wave for being Porsche's most underestimated car. |
