Some nice photos. What's the story? Where were these pics taken?

The boat was an ex Whitbread Baltic 55, 4 of us spent the last couple of weeks crawling up 65w from St. johns V.I. to Newport R.I. via Bermuda. These boats are pure-bred racers that beat the byjeeseus out of the poor humans on board

timing was perfect, only cought the fringes of Dennis, and little pieces of the next one(#5, don't know the name) and the Stream was fairly quiet, only a few 3 - 4 hr squalls.

tally
8 whales, including 2 monster rights
30 - 40 very speedy Dolphins
a bunch of birds, some very curious
1 flying fish on deck
no fish cought
lots of spectacular scenery

Well done, Bill; I'm envious. That is an as of yet unfulfilled dream of mine and of my wife's; to learn to sail, get a boat, and do what you just did. That's towards the top of the list when the kids get out of college, mortage is paid off, etc... For now I'll have to stick closer to home and terrorize the neighborhood in the 911.

Nice! Back when I lived on my boat in San Diego, I crewed on a Swan 57, and trimmed jib on port side. With the similarities of Baltics and Swans, that pic looking at the companionway while on port tack sure brings back memories! I'm envious.....

Wow. The Whitbread is "not for the faint of heart." Quite a boat, look at those huge winches, and all the instrumentation mounted on the cabin.

The fortlike house with the broad verandas must be Bermuda. I recognized that old creepy house at the entrance to Newport harbor (bridge in the background gave it away.)

It's the same crazy principle as flying. I'm glad both were discovered!

When going to weather the sail shape sucks the boat forward partial vacuum is formed in front of the sail, same thing happens at the keel, the 2 work synergisticaly and actually generate wind.

Yep, Jamestown bridge

opposite the "creepy house" is Ft. Adams
