Been in a lot of bands that never made it, but have had the opportunity to open for some pretty big (now) acts:

Cake. Played with them twice, once locally with about 10-20 people watching, and once in Sac (their hometown) in front of a packed house. John McCrea is super nice and down to earth, as is the rest of the band. Average height.

No Doubt. Played with them in a club in Sac right before they hit big; by the end of that tour they were playing arenas. The rest of the band was cool, but Gwen is a bit of a pompous b!tch. We drank all of their beer backstage while they were playing. That showed 'em!

Mike Ness (Social Distortion) hit on my GF at a restaurant in SF, around 1988. They were playing at the Stone down the street, and he tried to get her to go to the show, and even gave her an EP to sweeten the deal. I eventually lost the girl (not to Ness), but kept the EP. BTW, he's kinda short. Good music, though.

Basically, musicians are just people, albeit a little bit weirder.

During my 5years with Barris I met quite a few celebs. My favorites
Farrah
She and her mom were the greatest. I'd go up to the house early in the morning to pick up her Vette and would have coffee with them before getting the keys to one of the baddest Vette's I'd ever drivin. I had told Farrah's mother that my mom was a big fan but wasn't supposed to ask for autographs. Farrah called my mother personally just to say Hello .
Flip Wilson
He had a place right on the beach in Malibu. I'd spend the day drinking, smoking (I think he invented"the chronic") playing pool and then would have to drive his Rolls "Killer" back to the valley. He liked to hide a joint and a $50.00 somewhere in the car just to make sure the detail guys were thorough.
Trini Lopez.
He was cool. I spun his hot rod Camaro on Laurel canyon, backed it over the curb and half way across a parking lot. I'd torn the exhaust off on the curb and it had to towed away. He didn't tell my boss. TOO COOL.
Redd Foxx
I was escorted out of the house on Mulhulland because I was white. He's dead and I'm still white.
Dan Haggerty
Very cool guy no matter what anybody(everybody) says about him. Conned Burt Reynolds out of his Ferrari Daytona because I needed a ride home and Dan wasn't done drinking yet. I had that car for a week !
Cher
She used to get a Dino from the MGM every year. She'd bring it to Barris to paint. When asked what color she wanted on it, she pulled her panties off and handed them to George, "Can you match these?"
Steve McQueen
Ringo Starr
Clint Eastwood
John Travolta
There are many more, Those were good times.

Good to hear. A better actress than the roles she gets.

I worked for Aerosmith for a few years. Met a ton of folks in Rock and Roll, not to mention pro ball players( not vegas type) and other pro athletes. I met Lennon, Ono, McCartney, Starr, Leslie West, Felix Pappalardi, Stallone, Nugent, Richards, Jagger, Winter, Corky Lang.....It goes on and on...pretty cool, I'm a lucky in this sense.

Back around '92 or '93 I used to work out at the same gym that Gwen did. I recognized her from seeing her at some of the clubs where I went to see bands so I said hi to her. What a beech she was. I don't think No Doubt had started up then, but she didn't need to be a singer in a band to be stuck up.

Personal friend of Jack Olsen; been to his house, rode in his car, etc....

Also 3 out of 4 Beatles, but that is like a footnote in comparison.

Got any celebrity sighting stories?
Agree about Arne, he is short and the wife is even shorter.

I used to fly rock n roll bands back in the '70's and '80's. Like singpilot have met most of them and not going to comment about many of them.

Flew Prince and his group on several tours. That boy has a problem. He must have been dropped on his head as a kid. We had flown the wild, wilder and so on but Prince took the prize.

Drinking sake backstage with Rod Stewart and his Dad, singing on stage with the Beach Boys on the last night of a worldwide tour, flying Sting and the Police going into Canada and finding some "illegal substances" onboard and so on. Most of them are nice people, some are jerks and almost all of them are crazier than I am! (course they are richer as well!)

I met Andre The Giant one time, and the name tells it all he was huge. When we shook hands I felt like I had put my hand into the pocket of a catchers mit. His forearm was easily the size of my thigh. But he was the nicest guy. He would make you feel like you were his best friend from the moment you met him.

now there's something you can share with your grandkids. they will never believe you i am betting. there is hope though, get one of the hundreds of jack's self-shot portraits and photoshop yourself in. i did that you know, it hangs in my hallway next to the cert of autho for my 911, my 8th grade diploma, a picture of my late yellow lab, "dog dartis".

dog dartis was a celeb in his own right, but thats another story for another time.

Many years back - flew on commercial flight with Ray Charles from Dallas to NYC. Like many of you, I’m not into bothering anyone, let alone a celebrity.

Thought that was pretty cool just to sit near him (he was reading brail almost the entire flight). I went on to pickup the rent car. Ray (his escort close by) came right up next to me at the rental counter asking for his car. The attendant laughed and explained he could not rent a car to a blind man! They had a few laughs. Then onto the shuttle to take the folks to their cars. It was just Ray, his escort and me – along with the shuttle driver of course. I could hear the driver on the radio mentioning Ray Charles was on board. I think he made an unscheduled stop to pick up some of the drivers friends. They tried to start up a conversation with Ray (hey Ray, great concert in Chicago, blah, blah). What was Ray to say – yeah, I remember you!? Interestingly the dude asked for his autograph – which Ray declined.

Seemed like a nice, but quiet guy. Class act!

Yassir Arafat.

In the early eighties I worked as a bell boy at Grand Hotel in Stockholm. Fetching luggage at the station, running errands etc. That year Mr Arafat visited Stockholm and they stayed at the Grand. Occupied a whole floor. Lot of security people.
One day the hotel manager told me to bring up a huge bouquet of flowers to the esteemed guest. I brought it up the floor he stayed on and looked down the hall way. Probably ten or twelve of his own security people in the hall outside his door. Three different guards checked the bouquet and me before they let me enter the suite.

Inside there were at least as many guards. They let me step in the room and there he was, lying on the bed. When he saw me he raised his hand, smiled and said something in Arabic. Then I was swiftly escorted out of the suite.

Following year one of the Popes Cardinals stayed at the Grand. When he checked out I happened to be all alone in the reception. Its customary to give a little tip when leaving and with such a prominent guest I was hoping for some real cash.

He said thanks for a pleasant stay and is about to leave. So, he is gonna stiff me !! So I say, - Hey, Rabbi, how about a little something... you know.. for the effort.. you know ?!? He turns around and replies - Hunga-galunga, there won´t be any money, but on your death bed you will receive total consciousness.
So I got that going for me. Which is nice !

Noooo, I didn´t say that last piece. And he didn´t stiff me but he only gave me about 35 dollars. Cheap bugger...
