They'll probably just blame it on Bush again.

I have a buddy in NW Houston that says he may have to evacuate. Hopefully it won't be too bad, and I hope Padre won't be too bad either.

It is amazing how proficient Bush has gotten at aiming these hurricanes.

I made sure to gas up my car so that when the inevitable price gouging starts, it won't be as painful. I just hope that everyone evacuates and that the damage isn't too great. Hopefully it will weaken as some predict instead of strengthening.

Perhaps, we'll get some good winds and NO rain in Dallas this weekend. Could make for some GREAT windsurfing.

if you're within a hundred miles from the coast it's a good idea to fill up the gas tanks and get extra food and water. our gas stations and shelves in the food stores were empty from all the evacuating people passing through. not everything is to full capacity yet. There wasn't a gallon of gas, water or loaf of bread to be had for a week or so and we were 100 miles west of N.O.

this is what an approaching hurricane looks like before the rain and wind really starts.

Go ahead and file an insurance claim now they might get to you in about 4-40 weeks.

Same goes for FEMA go ahead and apply for aid now they might get to you in about a year.

I can't believe I forgot to include the link. And now I've lost it. What an idiot. Anyway, Rita is headed straight at the densest cluster of fixed offshore platforms off the TX coast. Sorry.

sorry.. we have a bunch of FEMA people here at the wine shop and I was told those were from Katrina. at least I knew it was a hurricane when someone posted about a Cat5. having sat thru every hurricane that hit here for almost 50 years, I have never thought about taking pictures before the storm. I was too busy tying everything down to use a camera

I'm really looking forward to the rhetoric. Here's how it goes:

1) Non-corrupt Texas officials organize a proper evacuation.
2) Non-corrupt Texas officials have national guard and supplies at the ready.
3) Rita hits, all hell doesn't break loose like NO.

Conclusion: Obviously, Bush sent more help to Texas to protect his "oil buddies" or the "white people".

MARK MY WORDS!

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.
