Where do you lie on the Political Spectrum?

I thought it would be interested to see where people think they lie on the political spectrum. Proposed scale is:

1--------2--------3-------4-------5-------6-------7-------8-------9-------10

Far Left Far Right

Far Left=Michael Moorer, Janeine Garofelo (or however you spell that), etc.

Far Right=Pat Robertson, etc.


I'll start. I think I am about a 7, sometimes an 8.

Please let me know where you think I fit in:

Fiscally conservative, the government should never spend more than it takes in, no matter what. It's just bad business and is in itself a terrible form of Entitlement.

Socially liberal, education is the silver bullet

Overhaul how Congress works and bills are voted on. Any congressman voting must have read the entire bill. From a technology perspective, there must be a solution. Our political leaders must be held accountable for their voting. Slow the process down, no last minute insertions, etc.

I like guns, you should be able to have whatever you want, just be prepared for a thorough background check.

I like the death penalty (for murder and rape)

Would rather see a culture of adoption than one of abortion,

Government should stay out of our personal lives for anyone above the poverty level, people should be trusted with their own personal lives and lifestyles. It is the ultra-rare occasion where a lifestyle has a negative impact on society in general.

I am completely against the welfare system, mainly because it propagates cycles (poverty, need, expectation, abuse) rather than breaks them. The end game is that when you don't work for something, when it's just given to you, you'll never appreciate it, you'll never understand achievement, you'll never learn anything and be able to take those skills to modify them to tackle new challenges. Entitlement programs are poorly designed to make you FEEL like you are one thing, but don't give you the tools to actually BE that thing.

Smaller, high-tech military. Any action we go into should have at least 50% world support through diplomacy, and I'm not talking about Costa Rica on our side.

A future competitive U.S.A is built on:
1. Top-tier education system where students are taught to think creatively and solve problems.

2. A free-of-charge national ultra-high speed broadband network. Everyone should have access to the net to equalize class. Businesses should be passing data at the rate common in Japan, China, that is 60 times our current standard.

3. True transportation energy independence. We need $billions poured into private R&D over the next 5 years to get transportation off the oil addiction. I see this as a "Kennedy walk on the moon" concept.

About a 6, I think the Republican party has abandoned the moderates and is being driven by the religous zealot right. Reasonably close to
Shaun 84 Targa. I need gubmit out of my wallet, out of my body, out of my bedroom and doing what it was meant to do. Have an effective military to keep of safe, and to do things that individuals can't do like build roads and sewer systems.

On economic issues = more conservative. I believe in smaller government, less regulation and the power of the free market (and personal / business accountability).

On social issues = more liberal / libertarian. IMO if it ain't in the Constitution, government has no business regulating it. Politicians need more direct accountability to the public - directly. Keep government, busibodies, religion, politics and opposing points of view out of my life except where they must be in order to effect a civilized society. I do likewise for others and respect their positions. End of story. I find the "hard right" types to be control freaks / nazis and the "hard left" types to be mamby-pamby pussies. I'm really neither, but more "hands off" with regards to government intrusion into peoples' lives.

Socially conservative, I dont believe in welfare or a free ride, go out and work and support yourself and your family. I have my own bills to pay! My tax money should be spent on education, defense and the basic needs of running the govt. Not on the National Endowment for the Arts. I'm pro gun and pro death penalty, and anti crime. I'm not very right-wing as far as religion goes, and I'm pro choice. It's a persons body let them do what they want with it.
As far as political correctness goes, you cant shove it. Offend all!!
I believe in free speech and the word GOD. The Pledge of alliegance should be recited in school. Teach our children the facts, not what some bleeding heart left wing pacifist thinks should be taught.
Yes, we should have team mascots named after American Indians!!

While I dont agree with everything our President has done, I support him and our troops.

As Shaun, I'm also not sure where I'd fit in.

I agree with what he said on government spending.

Guns: I dislike them. However, I feel that it should be mandatory that every person carry a gun at all times. Why? What idiot is going to rob a bank or shoot someone if everyone nearby is packing?

Abortion? I'd never do it, but it's needed. Why? Population.
Death penalty? Yes. Under control of victim's families.

Education? Not nearly enough. Failing miserably.
Medical research? Not enough, and too much at the same time. Stop curing disease, but make quality of life better. Population control.
Stem cell research? Yes, with some limits.
Transportation? Not enough. Failingmiserably.
Taxes? Too much...and not enough at the same time.
Energy? Too expensive.

Welfare? Too much. Train them, don't pay them.

Religious or personal beliefs should not be considered when passing laws.

Where's that put me?
