nope

tchanson 12-05-2005 12:38 PM

I think thats the famous Ken Miles' "Flying Shingle" MG from the mid '50's.

Tim

tcar 12-05-2005 02:29 PM

Yes it is. The front has an MG grille, that's why he only showed the rear.

Is that some sort of Mustang show car, cira late '60s? It seems to me I saw that or something like it all over Popular Mechanics around that time.
Les

Yellowbird RS 12-10-2005 11:41 AM

no is not a Mustang but yes it is american

techweenie 12-10-2005 11:44 AM

AMC, as I recall, not sure, but was it the AMX prototype?

dafischer 12-10-2005 12:12 PM

Dick Teague's AMC concept car designed as a competitor for the Pantera?

tcar 12-10-2005 12:20 PM

Techw is right, AMX 3 prototype.

Looks a LOT like a mini Pantera... or the Pantera looks a lot like the amx.

techweenie 12-10-2005 12:32 PM

I guess it's officially my turn...

:-)

Here's a shot I took at SEMA. Yes, the car is famous enough to have a fairly-well known name, in some circles... not looking for what it's based on, but what its (re)builder named it.

tchanson 12-10-2005 01:59 PM

Thats the Foose designed/built '36 Ford "Impression" that won the Ridler this year. Stunning car.

Tim

tcar 12-10-2005 02:07 PM

Looks a LOT more like a 37 than a 36.

The 36 had headlite on pods sticking out horizontally from behind the grille, not touching the fenders. 37 had headlites like Chip's car. So it's a 36 with 37 headlights, which are VERY different.

But... it is a custom, isn't it, and Chip says he started w/ a '36 body.

Yellowbird RS 12-10-2005 03:19 PM

AMX III
Unveiled at the Chicago Auto Show in
early 1969, the non-running AMX/2
surprised everyone as the first evidence
that tiny AMC was toying with an
advanced mid-engine sports car. Styling,
created under company design chief Dick
Teague, featured an "airfoil" shape, and
managed to be interesting -- swoopy
without being cartoonish. Graceful
simplicity was the watchword from
curved nose to "Kamm" tail. A fastback
roofline with a dorsal "spine" floated
above a flat, ribbed engine cover-cum-
deck. Central twin exhausts implied a
V-S, which was planned for but not
installed in this purely speculative
exercise. Still, public response was wildly
enthusiastic.

Tim is right that's a 1936 Ford Roadster by Foose

Island Boy 12-10-2005 07:56 PM

Tim

Yes, I believe it had won the Ridler before and had been redone since and won a second time(?) Anyway, it re-premiered at SEMA '05. Sorry for the tardy affirmation. In person, the car is just fantastic. Foose knows his colors.

tchanson 12-19-2005 08:46 AM

I suspect this may be a fairly easy one...

Tim

86 911 12-19-2005 11:09 AM

Is that a Borgward (Isabella?, Hasna?, Arabella?)

dafischer 12-19-2005 05:37 PM

It's a Studebaker-Porsche prototype. Rear Porsche engine, air cooled V8, if I remember correctly, in a Studebaker built (Porsche designed?) body.

Very hush-hush skunkworks project, and the several prototypes were all thoroughly destroyed by Studebaker. Late 50's early 60's.

tchanson 12-19-2005 06:29 PM

Stuttgart via South Bend

You're our winner, Dave.

Its the 1952/6 Type 542 Porsche Studebaker contract engineering project, powered by water and air cooled V6's.

Adler (German) Rennsport, ca 1934.

ErVikingo 12-21-2005 10:30 AM

You are a bit off on the year and model but you got it on the brand and country.

Dang, that was too quick

dafischer 12-21-2005 10:51 AM

Correction...1937 Rennlimousine Competition.

ErVikingo 12-21-2005 11:23 AM

WOW, you got it all. I guess I must try harder next time ;)
