(Warning: trick question!)

Well the body shell is/was Fiat 500, but it has been modded a bit with the flares, wheels, grille etc, How about STEYR PUCH?

Dottore 02-16-2007 12:36 PM

A Steyr Puch it is!

Built in Austria. The distinctive emblem on the front gives this away.

You guys are too good.

ErVikingo 02-16-2007 12:46 PM

My Steyr is a GB and it takes 18 nine MM rounds........

Interesting little car.....

Bob Goding 02-16-2007 01:10 PM

Found a pic of the Steyr Puch engine .They didnt use the Fiat twin ,but a flat twin of there own ,wouldnt be suprised if it had some BMW motorbike heritage. This one was 817cc ,but I see they went as much as 950. The car had some competition success
Monte Carlo Rally, If I remember. I had a Fiat 500 about 40 odd years ago--lot of fun.

They're fantastic little cars - much better than the original Fiats - built by the Austrian arms manufacturers.

Today they are very collectible - have become cult cars because of their durability etc. Very cool. I bought one in the late seventies and spent six months trashing it around Europe before selling it at a profit.

Door and hood latch are a give away as to what it's based on.
Opps, forgot the photo. see next post.

dafischer 02-16-2007 06:54 PM

Okay, here's another one. Besides the obvious "what is it", what was it's mechanical claim to fame?

Bonus points: Who was the engine manufacturer for this car?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1171684198.jpg

Dottore 02-16-2007 06:55 PM

I'm thinking DAF or Simca on the yellow car.

Bob Goding 02-16-2007 06:57 PM

Dottore, that yellow thing is indeed a Bond Equip GT --built on Triumph Herald bits.

Off topic, but we used to call them Harolds. It seemed to fit the car's personality.

Bob Goding 02-16-2007 07:12 PM

Salmson,I reckon, but who made the engine?Salmson had a Dynastart thing out the front ,but I cant see it in the pic.
and they were twin cam. Motor may have been French. I may be totally wrong--I should get a life!!

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1171685040.jpg

dafischer 02-16-2007 07:23 PM

Bob, it's not a Salmson. It's a very British car, but not one made by the British division of the French Salmson company.

And it's engine came from another country altogether.

And hey, I need a life as well.

Frazer-Nash. Chain drive, no diff.
Engine is probably Anzani, could be Meadows.
My late Sister & Brother in law had a Blackburn engine TT replica, although no longer a Blackburn due to metal fatigue.

She died just before Christmas & I think the estate is putting it up for sale.
Here is a picture of it in N-Z in 2005 during the U.K. 'Nash club "Raid".
Bonus points for the Porsche conection.

Bond Equipe.
Bloody 'orrible!

dafischer 02-16-2007 08:38 PM

dagriff...100% correct. Frazer-Nash "Chain Gang" with Anzani engine. My condolences on your sister. They had one beautiful F-N, and I'm sure it will fetch a goodly sum.

I'm stumped on the Porsche connection, though.

Quote"In 1954 the company, as AFN, started to sell Porsche cars, becoming the official importer for Great Britain in 1956. This lasted until 1965 when Porsche Cars Great Britain was set up: Aldington family members remained on the board of this company for some time. Frazer Nash is sometimes confused with Kaiser-Frazer and Nash Motors, but it is not related to them"

I wish I had the $ to buy it. The first time I rode in it as a small boy started my passion for cars & left me like this, all Toad of Toad Hall. Still feel the same about cars.

dafischer 02-16-2007 09:14 PM

I know what the experience is like to have a ride in a really significant car...I had a ride in one of these, that my dad could have bought for $2,000, in 1969. He passed since he'd just bought a 41 Packard convertible for $1,000.

DOH!!

That's gotta be a Bristol.

Wonderful cars. Would love to get one.

dagriff 02-17-2007 09:56 AM

Yes a Bristol.
I tried to get a job there when I left school, they said they only employee skilled craftsmen, come back when you have done an apprenticship.
The factory is on the same site as BAC & Rolls-Royce aero division, apparently it is easier to walk into the guided weapons section than get passed the Bristol Car security!

Dottore 02-17-2007 10:52 AM

I seem recall that those crazy brothers from the band Oasis (whatever they names were) had a vast collection of Bristols that they flogged around the English countryside.

Meant to be one of the finest cars ever for going from A to B fast and in comfort and style. If I ever retire to Cornwall - that would have to be the ticket.
