Check out my refinished SIG Sauers.
UPS man paid a long awaited visit last night. This is my P229 in .357SIG. I bought it from CDNN as a beater for $392 delivered. That was still a smoking deal since it came with Trijicon night sights and Hogue grips. Finish wasn't too bad, but I wanted Robar's NP3, which is an electroless nickel and teflon combo. I also had them do a trigger job. Will probably get to the range tonight to break it in.
And she is with her big sister, my P220 (.45), also refinished in two tone by Robar a while ago. This is the P220 alone. I've put a lot of miles on this one and it has been one of the most reliable things I've ever owned (unlike the 3.0 valve shown in the trigger guard).

I'm coming to the engine drop party, but don't think I'll be bringing any guns into the People's Republic of MD. Only criminals have guns there.

Beautiful.
Do you have to go through a dealer to send your gun out? I wish I knew of a local gunsmith.

I was at my local FFL, receives guns I've bought on gunbroker.com and sells me things, and must admit that a certain Sig P229 SAS model really did catch my eye. It looks the near perfect carry gun with it's exterior smoothing job. Comes with a night front sight, all you really need, and two high-cap magazines. Very tempting. I see there's a narrow version as well, the P239 SAS. What really sets them off, though, is their wood grips which I truly prefer over rubber or plastic. ![]() Yep, I may need to obtain one of those. |

Rick, I can't exactly tell what the NP3 finish looks like from the pics. I assume its on the slide of your SIG. Is it a sort of gunmetal gray-silver? Some shine and gleam so it is not merely gray, but not as shiny and bright as nickel-plated?

Sherman, I know this and thought about doing it. But wouldn't a claim in the event of loss be denied, once I said it was a gun? Next time I'm just gonna send it in two separate packages, though I know the law considers a bare frame to be a functional firearm.
John, it's a matte grey. Strange though because the P229 slide is much shinier and more like nickel than the P220 slide. The P229 frame, however, is about as dark as the P220 slide. Just put 200 rds. through the P229 3o min. ago. The light trigger takes some getting used to. But it makes the reacquisition for the second shot much faster. I was shooting fast tonight, usually a little less then one second between shots. And I still managed to keep them all on the paper plate targets. Photos coming soon.

Ok, I'm only posting the good one here. I don't always shoot like this. Still, I'd say I'm getting used to the new gun. Before sending it to Robar, I had only put maybe 50 rds. through it. It's totally new now with that trigger job - best $95 you can spend on a gun. This was 12 rounds at 20 feet. I was using my .357SIG barrel. It kicks a LOT, so I may pick up a .40 barrel to try out.
This is what I did with the P220. It was 11 rounds at 20 ft. Not my best shooting, but would get the job done. There was a guy in the lane nearby who obviously had Serious Gun Acquisition Syndrome. He had a Les Baer, Kimber, SIG single action and an H&K P7M8 (this WILL be mine within the year). He let me try out the P7, my first time ever. It was very cool. Gas-operated is totally different than recoil-operated. If I can steal one for the $700 range, I'll jump on it. Wouldn't mind finding a beater and sending to Robar again to make it new.

Nice!
I have one Sig now, a sweet little P232SL w/ Nill grips, and have been agonizing over the P226/P229/P220 debate. I don't really need to take on another caliber (too many already) so had been leaning towards one of the first two in a .40SW but every time I hear the great comments about the P220 it makes me reconsider. Hmm. Haven't fired any of these models yet but maybe can try a rental some time to help decide.

here are a couple before and after pics of the walther P5 i mentioned in an earlier post. this was a 23 year old ex-police issue pistol. had it a week or so before i tore it apart and did my own gun kote to it. not bad for a first try. the grips were really worn too, so i coated them with bed liner paint and this weekend was playing with grip tape overlays in the checkered areas.
biggest thing was getting a nice consistent coating/finish and now the slide, frame, and controls all have the same look to them, regardless of different materials. any glare around the small bits is just surface oil. the pistol went from whole to pieces to coating to whole again and then off the range...all in the same weekend. it had been over 3 years since i had been to the NRA range in fairfax...sad, considering it is less than two miles from where i live. repoe3

Well after reading all the Sig dialouge over the last few months, I took the plunge on saturday and bought one of these
Sig P229 SAS in 40 S&W. It's a great weapon, feels good in the hand and the trigger action is something else. I pick it next thursday.

Hey Craig, that looks like one of Lunde's guns on SIGforum. Did your come with .40 and .357 barrels? I'm looking for a good deal on a .40 barrel for my P229 and maybe one for my Pro 2340.

I paid $890 out the door plus $120 for the 357 Sig barrel. They also had the "Equinox" which was a beautiful gun, but at $1,100 a little rich for my blood. I bought it thru a local guy who deals mostly with Law Enforcement. It seemed to be the going rate in my area.
