Computer..no more click

My click sound vanished. Windows Me programming. Cindy did a clean up including:
Delete:
emails
cookies
temporary files

Run:
adaware
spybot
PC on point
also the normal clean up-scan-defrag

Then signed back into the usual stuff

So, why no audio click? Is there a reset?

Thanks in advance. Paul

In XP it's Start> Settings> Control Panel> Sound and Audio Devices> Sounds. Scroll down in the sounds box to Windows Explorer> Start Navigation. Click "browse" which will bring up a list of sounds avalable, which you may have to try a few to right one (It's WindowsXPstart.wav in XP, but look for the obvious like click.wav)

ME should be similar navigation to the "sounds" settings though it may have it's own heading under control panel. Also there should be a "sound schemes" box which if set to "Windows Default" will bring back all the OEM sounds.

Did you check your hearing aid battery?

lost click

Cindy here. We have Windows ME. I got to the Sounds and Multia Media box in the control panel. I set it on Windows Default, but I still don't hear a click. Any other suggestions?

Do you hear any other sounds? If not, could be that the master volume may be muted.

Get rid of Windows ME. The most unstable OS ever made by MS.
2000 is an ok replacement, but Xp is pretty good if your system can swallow it.

Click on Control panel, then System, then Device manager

Check to see if you have any yellow "!" marks beside any of the devices listed there.

If you do then something has a driver issue. Other than that Z's comment about the master volumn may be the problem.

Best way to fix this is to save everything you need, then format it and install W2000 or XP. ME is a terrible OS...

Did you disconnect the speakers? If so, make sure the speakers are plugged into the correct port on the computer.

Are you able to hear any other sounds from the computer?

We're just having gangs of fun here...played around until ALL the other sounds have fun new tones...things like startup & shutdown, spell check over, etc. But no click. Frankly, it's getting close to the time to toss this ancient machine, but were hoping it would hang in there until the new Microsoft VISTA comes along...

Bell, may you never need a hearing aid. Problems begin when you confuse your hearing aids with your suppositories...
