I can't wait to see if Saddam should be removed from power.
I mean, we know that his top aids did some pretty nasty things, but this "guilt by association" is often used as a "smear tactic." Hopefully, the trial will conclude soon so we can make up our minds about him. ![]() Edited to include the "sarcasm" thing, in case I wasn't clear.

Rick, Cool,
I think yall are saying the same thing. Yes, Mr. Cheney misspoke and said .com instead of .org. He meant to tell people to go to .org according to him. .com does have a political agenda, .org is supposed to be independent. Is Hussein guilty by association? Aren't we all known by the friends we keep? Please keep in mind who supplied Iraq with their WMDs prior to the Iran/Iraq war. We knew there were WMDs because WE supplied some of them. I feel there are still some over there and that we have found others. I also feel that the information regarding recovery is being kept quiet for military/security reasons. If our friends are openly/known crooked, does this not implicate us in their deeds? I'm not saying this is true for all, I have two close friends who are convicted felons, I am not nor have I placed myself in such a situation. Others have. Mr. Nixon went down for covering up a felony, Mr. Reagan (Iran-Contra) did not. Mr. Clinton played liberal with the truth and sullied himself, I feel that Mr. Bush has as well. Does my opinion count? No. I am only one voting Veteran, not a wave of public opinion. I would vote today for Mr. Nixon to be our next President. I cannot say that I would or ever voted for the other three (yes, I'm old enough to have voted for the other three, if not Mr. Nixon). In my opinion, Mr. Nixon was involved after the fact and tried to cover the issue up leading to the elections. Mr. DeLay was involved from the inception of the issues. But, to be fair, part of the felony indictment did not become a felony until the day AFTER he stopped committing it. He knew the law had changed and he kept is soon to be illegal activities up until close to the last moment. But I break the speed limit laws on occassion...

Rumor that is now fact. CC..You picked it.
Will be interesting to see the spin on this one. Kinda fun standing on the sidelines watching each end of the political spectrum try to out do each other in spin and manipulation!!

Ah ... the spin begins. He didn't resign because he a corrupt, sleazy politician that stole from the taxpayers on a grand scale. He's just a good Republican, leaving to cash in.
I think the prison laundry pays $2/hr.

Rodeo, that is far from spin. It's the 100% truth. He will make exponentially more out of COngress and not be subject to any kind of special rules. All I know is what I read, but the Post article today said he resigned because his reelection looked increasingly unwinnable and he wanted to keep that seat for the GOP. I don't think he was previously motivated by money, since he could have cashed in many years ago and saved a lot of headache. But this looks to be about the right time. I still believe he will never be convicted of anything.

But then again, you've been incredibly supportive of a guy that described Jack Abramoff as "one of my closest and dearest friends," a guy whose senior staffers are going to jail faster than we can count them. A guy whose office was a sickening den of corruption and greed. The question in my mind is "why?" I mean, despite your politics being different from mine, you seem like a rational person. You are capable of looking at facts and coming to obvious conclusions. But you look at all the sleaze surrounding DeLay, and apparently see only goodness and light. The only conclusion I can draw is unfortunately a cynical one: You care more about the Republican Party than you do the country. If you cared more about the country, you'd condemn this sleaze, no matter what it's origin. The latest batch or Republicans have been taught that "winning is everything," and politics pervades everything for them. I think that's why they are on the way out. Republicans care about maintaining Republican power. Americans care about their country. p.s. I don't have loyalty to either party. Right now, I guess I'm a democrat, but only because the Repubs are so sleazy and incompetent and intolerant. That will change. |

Wrong again, Rodeo. I care more about Cynthia McKinney's hairdo than I do the Republican Party. Obviously, Abramoff ain't gonna give up anything on DeLay. They were (and may still be) good friends. Abramoff is as hardcore Republican as they come. If I were Byron Dorgan or Harry Reid, I'd be a lot more worried about Abramoff's turning state's evidence than if I were Tom DeLay.
And I highly doubt DeLay has yet to be accused of any wrongdoing in connection with Abramoff for a lack of the feds trying to do so. There ain't no there there. And if there were, the feds sure missed the boat by not saying so before DeLay announced his resignation. DeLay's only legal woe is the TX money laundering charge. The conspiracy charge was tossed and the prosecutor in the case has plenty of political baggage of his own. Anyone who thinks DeLay would be dumb enough to tell the RNC to cut a check AND leave his fingerprints on it, even assuming the RNC would comply, just doesn't know how that operation works. I have always thought our campaign finance laws were ridiculous. But it's even more ridiculous to think the guys at the top of the game don't have an army of lawyers reviewing every check cut and keeping a good buffer between the big guys.

Abramoff is singing like a little birdie.
Music to my ears. Sweet, beautiful music. You man is going down. Remember, they work UP the food chain, not DOWN.

Abramoff has been singing for many months and has already been sentenced. Don't you think they would have already named DeLay as a target if they had something on him?

Nope.
You'll see. (btw, Abramoff has only been sentenced in Florida, the Washington sentence is on the way)
