That occurred to me later yesterday after I posted and I was not at the computer. I guess worst-case scenario is that he is a racist, but more than likely he's an equal opportunity A-hole. Wait and see if he is nicer to caucasians, that would prove it one way or another I suppose.

Are you also neighbors w/ him, vash?

Like some others here I value my privacy and can become relatively introverted when in my "domain". I 100% agree that this new neighbor was rude beyond reproach.

BTW, when working on my property (especially in my house or garage) and I'm all sweated up and grimy I really don't want to be all too social.

Perhaps a different setting or circumstances will work out better.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Moved to Staten Island when I was 11.
In most NYC neighborhoods especially Brooklyn, everyone knows everybody on thier block, and what everybody does. Not that they are nosy , thats just the way it was. Everyone looked out for thier neighbors, even if you didnt like them. When I moved to NJ 16 yrs ago, it was a culture shock to see that alot of people kept to themselves and werent that social. Nobody came out of the house or talked to eachother. the first place I lived at, for 3 yrs I never seen the people who lived next to me. I swear! When they came home, they hit the garage opener, and pulled in and shut the door. Same thing when they left.
Where I live now its much better. Most of the people on my street are cool and very friendly.

Cut him slack. Some people don't like people just coming up and introducing themselves. Give him the opportunity to do it on his timetable. He might never do it, but not everyone likes to be open and friendly with their neighbors right off the bat. Some people are shy and that comes off as being aloof and angry. Some things take time...

I live in a cramped condo development and I have an end unit. My neighbors certainly all know me, as the 911's are pretty loud. My immediate neighbors are pretty cool, but the ones more than two units away don't even look at me. I'm always in the garage or driveway tinkering with the cars or having a smoke. It really seems like some folks make a concerted effort to not make eye contact. Weird.

I am in East Williamsburg - everyone is basically from the same little area in southern Italy. It is funny - those from the valley talk about those from the town and those from the town complain about those from the valley. It took a year or two for the neighbors to warm up - but now I am treated pretty well.. Most people walk to go shopping, there is always a crowd of old guys at the OTB or hanging out on the sidewalk - always someone to stop and talk to..

If I come to BKN. this summer, will you show me your neighborhood? All of the time that I have spent in Manhattan I have hardly ever been to Brooklyn. I would love it, I'm going to try to visit and learn about the parts of the U.S. that I do not know this summer, ie. Texas, the South, DC, etc...

Big drive, as Ronnie would say.

I'm kind of the same way only I wouldn't have left you in my garage. If I know you, or if I've invited you to come to my house then everything is cool. If I don't know you our you come to my house uninvited then I will brush you off or treat you suspiciously. I enjoy my privacy and don't car emuch for neighbors.

Thats a great area! Awsome restaurants and bakeries. I work around there once in a while. Originally from Bensonhurst. Still have alot of family there But I hate going there now, It has changed so much, really went downhill.

Usually visit an Aunt in the Park Slope area. Have not been there in years. We may try to sneek away this summer for a 4 day weekend. We spend most of our time in NYC taking in the sights. This year we may wonder around Brooklyn more.

After considering the original topic today I have a solution.

Go take a dump oin his lawn on a Saturday morning. I am sure this will stimulate some conversation.

I'm a California native who lived in NYC for 5 years. You got it right, BROOKLYN is the place. Not trendy, just reminds you of old NY. I used to hang at the Brooklyn Dodger and Two Boots. Great spots. Bay Ridge, Bensonhurst, Park Slope, Love it all.

Much the same - Brooklyn looks more like a place to live, while Manhattan, except off the park, looks more like a place to work.

Bring some baked goods on your next visit. Maybe some brownies.

Hash brownies.
