Any bug (insect) guys out there?

This fellow showed up on my front porch last Sunday. Anybody know what it is? No, I don't live anywhere near three mile island.

That bad boy (girl) was roughly 5-6" long.

I'm normally a live and let live guy when it comes to the spiders (except IN the house) as they do eat the other pests, but this one decided to make it's home right over the walk-out door of my garage and met it's end at the business end of a can of brake cleaner.

What you have there is an under-developed Mothra.

You probably failed to nurish the larva properly, plus you mentioned that you found it away from it's natural habitat - a busted, goo-spewing reactor.

I suggest that you immediately order some uranium for your new friend. Meanwhile, keep that fuzzy li'l critter next to as many smoke detectors, fiesta-ware, and lantern mantles as you can find.

In no time, you should have a proper Mothra:
Length 135 Meters
Weight:15,000 Tons
Wingspan: 250 Meters
Air Speed: Mach 3

Based soley on the size of your "little" friend there, Hugh, I'd have to venture a guess and say he was a Goliath Beetle. He's an amazing specimen!!!

Is that your hand holding him? And did you find him in California?

Nahhhhh...! You want nightmares? Hang out in the Iraqi desert with a couple of these little fellers...

Like the Banana Spider, above, aside from the "freak" factor, and a painful bite if they are threatened or provoked, these guys are pretty much harmless.

I was that way until we moved to Arizona. When our daughter was crawling age she passed within two feet of a bark scorpion in the hall. We were finding 4-6 in the house each month.

I went on the offensive and starting going out in the evenings with a black light in one hand and rubber mallet in the other. Only a few made it inside last year. Night before last was my first hunt of the season. I killed 8! I hope that's not a sign of what lies ahead. At least they're easy to find with the black light:

This guy is one of my all time favorites...

The first time I saw one of these guys was on the flightline at MCAS El Toro. Thought it looked like some kind of nuclear radiated mouse with extra appendages. The mouth on this guy is a pair of pretty menacing pincers that appear capable of administering a very painful bite.

Yeah, that's me holding him. I found that bugger on the Island of Dominica down near Venezuela a few months ago during filming of Pirates of the Caribbean II & III.

Ryan,

That looks to be a Common Brown Beeyotch.

Interestingly, the Beeyotch comes is in all sorts of shapes and sizes. There is the Money-Grubbin Beeyotch and the Stank Beeyotch, just to name a few.

I'll see if I can find some pics to post of each of these critters.

Randy
