Lou Dobbs seems to be the only one willing to put the "illegal" part of the phrase back into the discussion. Rest of tree huggin liberal media seem to have chosen to leave that part out.

The pushers (extremists) of this movement (including political office holders) have got to be licking their chops as they look around, as I have, and see the sleep-walking general public simply going about it's business. Oh sure, some shock, upset, and outrage from viewing the protests, as well as some direct negative experiences, but when I talk to a few about it, they are unaware of what is going on beneath it all...and the consequences.

I listened to Richard Lamm (3 term ex Dem. Gov. of Colorado) being interviewed on radio last weekend about the various aspects of this tragedy. He stated that he suspects that in 10 - 20 yrs. one of our political parties will no longer exist.
When asked which one, he said he couldn't say, but that "...major political transformation is on the horizon."

My guess is that if the above eventuates, we will see a new political party based upon the profound political drive/ambition from within the Hispanic community and from within Mexico itself. It's simply a matter of the numbers of voters...as gaining political power is the underlying motivation for *demanding* total amnesty. "First we march, then we vote."

I think of this imagistically - a King Henry VIII banquet, table spread out, huge roasted pig in the center, knives and forks being wiped back/forth upon each other, joviality is in the air, then begins the feeding frenzy for all invited.

I mean, look at Sen. Lamar Alexander stepping forward with his token introduction of a non-binding measure to make English the only language for our National Anthem.

Or, they'll make their own political party. As is, it's looking like their vote is the undecided Dems and Reps are going for.

No wonder during Bush's last campaign, he forgot about the registered undecided voter who is already legal in this country. His mind was on the future, and how the influx from people "south of the border" could equate to one-party dominance.

I know you travel a lot. I have stated I love the latin culture. I do. I have been to parties in Miami dancing Salsa with friends and eating spanish food. The culture I was immersed in was primarily Cuban and Peurto Rican. These are my friends and I love them all dearly. they are kind fun loving people that welcome me with open arms.

They are all bilingual and speak english in front of me. I do not speak hardly any spanish and what little I know is not enough to converse.

They all believe that an American should speak english. They also have all immigrated LEGALLY.

The shock to me is walking into a McDonalds in Miami (this was in 1993) and everything was in spanish. The menu was completely in spanish. I was trying to order in english and the girl at the counter could not understand me. No one there could understand me. I have had an easier time ordering in Mexico.

Legislation was proposed to change all the street signs in Miami to spanish and if I recall correctly spanish is the official SECOND language of Florida.

I have no idea what its like in Chicago. I have never been there. I have a sis-in-law that moved there recently but I have never been there.

It is very frustrating to see a group of people that are purposfully seperating themselves from America. They want to be here in the USA but want nothing to do with it.

I cannot remember if it is in this thread or another. I tell a story of how illegals have driven down the payscale of roof carpenters. I have seen it first hand. The pay is so poor that experianced roof carpenters (Americans) have quit or will not take a job at 1/2 the pay. All because a group of illegals are willing to do the job for nothing.

I like living in my own home. Most of your illegals are living 2 to 3 families per household. Yup, their household income for 2-3 families probably rivals your typical american household except they are sending the extra money over to their homeland for their family that is not here yet.

Your a professional and I am sure you will not be directly affected by this. But the underlying problem associated with all this illegal activity will eventually impact all of us as a nation of people. It is already affecting many blue collar workers.

I am glad your not affected by this. I was not either Monday was just another day. All they really did was make me aware we have a problem in this country and if it is not dealt with it will be a big problem.
