I think those statistics have been presented and some have been shot down previously on this forum.
To be sure, illegal immigration is a huge problem, but hyperbolic statistics really don't do much to press the discussion forward. I think snopes has some of this stuff on their site. http://www.snopes.com/politics/immigration/taxes.asp

I was raised Conservative: Strong Military, strong borders, strong budget, enforcement when necessary, remain engaged, protect the environment so people can still live on this soil, and keep American production facilities and American companies located in America.
Guess we haven't had a conservative president since Nixon. Teddy Roosevelt was an environmentalist, last time I looked he was also a very conservative Republican. Richard Nixon was able to get the EPA through congress, last time I looked he was also a conservative Republican and a shrewd politician whose people got caught with their hands in the cookie jar.

95% of people posting such figures have nothing better to do than sit around all day with a finger up the butt and whistling as the world passes them by.

![]() sorry...just thought it was funny. You post a bunch of statictics with attribution, they are then shown to be false, then you try and retrench a racist position with the line, "well they are exaggerated but certainly based in fact." That is funny to me. Sad, but funny. |

Are you REALLY sure these "detracters" are "Liberals"? And how do you define liberal? Just getting tired of seeing labels tossed around as if they really stood for anything. Sems to me that labels are an excuse for the lack of original thinking or debating techniques.

Just can't respond in a civil manner, now I'm a racist. Time will tell who is right. Illegal immigration is what I was addressing, not any race. It doesn't matter what country they are from, they key word here is "illegal", but then again, the left is known for using the race card as one of their favorites. Illegal immigration, radical environmentalism, and the destruction of our formerly strong industrial/natural resource extraction economic base is a far greater threat to this country than Islamic extremists. OK, now what am I? a dirty populist that cares about what is happening to the middle class right under our noses?

billy:
I do not argue the point that "illegal" has a definition. What I am having trouble with is exaggerated claims made by organizations to prove their point. Being an Arizonan, I am on the "front line" of the problem. Why can't our federal government enforce the already existing laws? Why do the Republicans now want to have "town meetings" rather than come up with a solution? I am angry with the whole lot of idiots in Washington..waffling, indecisive, poll taking nincompoops. Someday I will tell you all how I really feel!!

Don't get the wrong idea, I'm not backing the republicans. They have failed their support base. When they call me now asking for money, I give them an ear full with no $$.I'm actually more pissed at them than the Dems. I expect to be screwed over by the left, but now we're gettin it both ways.

billy, I think we both know that when most people toss out the term "illegals" they are talking about people of Mexican/Hispanic/Latino descent. And language like "their kind" is rather inflammatory. You might counter with "well, by kind I meant 'illegal'", but I just don't buy it. I've heard and seen too much anger and bile tossed in the general direction of a group of people that by and large are here trying to make ends meet.
Our industrial status/economy is gone. It will never come back...well, unless you want to let even more illegal immigrants in to staff the lines. For a variety of reasons we have lost our edge in that arena. In most areas actually. What I really think I'm hearing is frustration with the fact that America is not like it used to be. Well, that is true. It will never be like it used to be. People can blame the illegal immigrants, blame the Islamofacists, blame the radical environmentalists, the neocons, etc. But when push comes to shove, we need to look in the mirror. We as a country have grown fat, slow and stupid. We don't value hard work, education, or creativity. Instead we belly up to the table of wealth created by subsidies and earned on the back of the generations that came before, and the "illegals" that are here now. In the end I fear that we as a country don't understand hardship, and don't have much left in the way of personal responsibility. The problem with the education system is the teachers and the unions. The problem with the economy is the illegals and corporate greed. The problem with society is either too many handouts or not enough handouts. The problem is us. We are the enemy. We need to get our ***** together and quit blaming everyone else for what is wrong with this country. As for what the action items are, that's up for debate. But laying the blame at the feet of others is *not* one of them imho. |

Sure, Ford is going to hire 125,000 workers in Mexico, as soon as they build their new plants, but until then, the work is here, and Mexicans (and others) will risk violence and death to earn a living wage. Maybe a long term solution is changing the Mexican government, but that doesn't put food on the table next month. The Mexican economy is a complete disaster. Cutting off work in the US is a recipe for civil unrest and revolution. Plus, eliminating illegal labor will destroy some US industries altogether. That's why no likely presidential candidate from either party is going to truly "clamp down" on illegals. And all of them are going to mention amnesty.
