Great album!

Los Lobos version of "Bertha" is rockin', and I must admit that after listening to Lyle do "Friend of the Devil" about 1,000 times, I like it better than the original. A lot better.

One of the first concerts I went to outside of a junior high school dance. Tull was actually THE first, but the Dead were in the first two or three. A buddy and I snuck downtown (we were both supposed to be at each other's houses...) on the bus when we were about 13 years old. Never missed them when they came to Seattle from then on. My two boys, 15 and 16, grew up listening to them and rather like their music themselves (along with many others from my time).

You guys that say the SRV version of Little Wing is better than Jimi's have been out in the sun too long. Waaaay too long.

SRV was cool and a top player, but he was no Jimi. His version is a very nice tribute, but lacks subtlety and style. For cover versions, I prefer Derek and the Dominos take...they at least took a different approach to the tune. But Jimi's is the *****...

Concrete Blonde does a pretty cool version, as does Frank Zappa. Gill Evans Orchestra does a wild version too.

We all miss Jerry - nothing's been the same since.

Anyone else ever shed a tear during Stella Blue?

Cassidy and Jack Straw always got to me. Stella Blue was great for putting the moves on that hot chick when you were both in altered states of consciousness.

But that was 30+ years ago.

The corporate techie goons at my work have locked out all of the on-line music sites, except for www.archive.org.

I still can find a glimpse of sunlight in this world

I still get all choked up over a good Brokedown. Listen to river sing sweet songs to rock my soul. And I rotate most of May 77 regularly.

As to the SRV/Jimi controversy, I think what makes SRV's so cool is the tube sound of whatever amp he was using. No comparison to the original, but very listenable nonetheless.

Mushrooms and Grateful Dead concerts in the early seventies, boy does that bring back memories. Incredibly good times.
