Question Help me NAME THIS CAR!?!? Test your knowledge!

Here is what I know for sure...this kit car or shell was made in the 1960's and came out of California (very few made ~300). The shell is all fiberglass and I know it was made for a corvett frame/engine. Look at the pictures carefully, I know they are not the best quality, but this is what I have to go off of. Please send me any known information on this car. Thanks

Frank.

That seems like a good name for that car.

Roofline looks like a Cheetah, but it could have been hacked up over the years.

The front fender winglets are not original, nor is the cutting on the front end, but what you have there looks almost like my old Kellison J7A Panther. (Although you might have a J5 there)... You are correct, it was mounted on a Corvette frame.

Ooh, ooh, since I ID'ed it, do I win it? Would like another one someday. Can remember driving it around the 1st time sitting on a plastic bucket!

Jake, that's pretty close, but the front end is different. The J5 had the dual headlights (the J7 was a "cobbled together last-ditch" car made of "left-overs")...They also had a car they called the "Astra" that had the same front. The more my old 60's synapses are firing, I think he's either stumbled over a J5 (by looking at the front fenders) or an Astra.

Jake, I just noticed you had a link to a Kellison car site. WOW! I just went there and it was like a stroll down memory lane (AND there are a few Astras there as well)...THEN, I went to ebay and searched, and there is a J6 for sale in Oklahoma...man, I don't need another project right now, but I sure loved the lines of those cars. They hold a special place in my heart like the old Devin C's. Thanks for "jump-starting" some happy memories.

Since I have not dabbled in kits in a LONG time, I would not even venture a guess as to it's worth. If you buy it and have any questions about parts, I may be able to help. You can source the windshield and back glass from some OLD cars: the windshield was 1950 Studebaker and the back glass was 1949 fastback Oldsmobile. Corvair or Corvette taillights fill the rear holes pretty nice, but I remember that the "blind spots" were horrible (and a "Wink" mirror was no help. I went with Talbots on the fenders with convex lenses. Besides the occasional dune buggy, this was my 1st "serious kit"...Are you going to buy it? If you can get it pretty cheap, I'd say go for it! They were not "flimsy" bodies by any stretch. Pretty solid for their time (and even by today's standards)...

Cashflyer, your pic almost brought a tear to my eye. Almost like seeing your 1st girlfriend!
