Sheriff: "That was all the ammunition they had..... "

"I suspect the only reason 110 rounds was all that was fired was that's all the ammunition they had," Judd said.

Florida sheriff's answer as to why so many rounds were fired at cop killer. Bitter-sweet ending to such a tragic event.

Sounds like the police executed him. I really think its wrong.

In this country, every person had the right to piss away $10,000,000 of the taxpayers money before we execute them. 110 bullets? Well hell, that only cost $30 bucks. I DEMAND an explanation as to how we are going to piss away the $9,999,970 dollars that this guy deserved.

Not sure if you are joking or not but IMHO the perp got what he deserved. He shot two policemen, and one K-9 dog, killing two out of the three. He then pointed the dead officers own gun at even more policemen, so its no wonder that they shot back.

We could get the extra ammo and give it to Todd. Sure he can put it to good use at the range!

Do I really need to put a I AM BEING SARCASTIC label on the bottom?

I was kidding friend.

Still, I think my economics were spot on. You know damn well that those 110 bullets were a boat load cheapers that any trial/punishment this piece of filth would have gotten.

HD,

Sorry but just wanted to make sure. Remember that there are loads of people out there who would say "his civil rights were abused" without thinking one moment about the dead LE man or his family, not to mention the pup.

Agree on the economics. Twenty years in jail on appeal, then being given what he deserves, versus aiming at the police ONCE MORE and then being shot is sure faster and what he needed.

Wasted ammo. Shouldn't have taken more than one or two. I saw some stats a few years ago that said that cops were the worst marksmen of anyone. It took cops twice as many shots to kill a perp as it did for perps to kill someone.....and like 4 or 5 times as many as it took a private citizen using a gun for legitimate self defense. My uncle runsthe criminal justice institute in Broward County and says that the vast majority of cops in his area NEVER pratice with their sidearm except when they are forced to go to the range for periodic mandatory training and qualifying. Not sure about crimoinals, but we all know that the average citizen who owns a firearm probably shoots it a little more often than that. I would guess that the ganster wannabes have to practice some to lean how to hold their 9 in that cool sideways fashion while they pop a cap in yo azzzzzzz......lol

Just about a 2-1 ratio in shots fired to impact.

Swift justice, the way it was meant to be. Hope he suffered.

I don't think I would agree with cops being so bad at shooting. My buddy is Federal Corrections, and he has to qualify or whatever they call it annually. He has some sort of freak 20-10 vision, so he may be the exception, but he pretty much puts them all in an area he can cover with his palm. I think the long gun is 100 yards and the handgun is 30 yards. They even make them shoot with their off hand, just in case, he is not as good with his left

In this case, they were all pointing their weapons at him, and when he made his move, I don't think the protocal is to wait for someone else to shoot first.

I don't know about the other states, but in California, that isn't so. You have to qualify at least on an annual basis with shooting from both hands, various stances, and reloading during the exercise which is all timed. Some departments require even more. A statement that says "worse than anyone" is pretty vague also. Who is anyone, my 95 year old mother or Jeff Cooper(RIP)? Also, any cops who don't practice are the biggest fools.

if they write me a check for the $9M they were going to spend on the trial, I can buy plenty of my own

Speaking of that, went last weekend and exercised the p225. I still am more accurate DA as opposed to SA. Need more practice. Unfortunatley I forgot to place my order on Friday, and I think Federal and Remington just raised ammo prices...

Maybe you should have your uncle explain to you that 68 shots out of 110 hitting the bad guy is actually a very good percentage when it comes to combat. 10 SWAT officers shot at him. It maybe took 6 seconds. No way they're going to let him get a chance to shoot back.
On a range where there's no threat of getting shot at I'll guarantee that these SWAT officers are perfect shots every time. Sure, everyday patrol cops aren't going to be as skilled as SWAT but they'll hold their own on a range, because the majority don't practice as much as they should

We had an incident here in L.A. about a year back where the cops fired 104 rounds at a guy driving an SUV down a residential street. They hit lots of things, but not the driver they were presumably aiming at... which is a good thing, since he turned out not to be the guy they thought he was.

This guy was scum. Too bad all 110 shots didn't hit him. God is the judge and jury now. Killed a dog too the S.O.B. They should have shot him some more in my book. F-him.

You might have to pay tax on the money if you got it in cash, but the ammo maybe not and you could then sell it to Pelcans!

Back when I had the time and was thinking about shooting in some local practical competitions, i was shooting maybe 80-100 rounds each session and i tried to go at least twice a month. That is 2400 a year and i don't even reload. Qualifying for most is pretty easy. MUCH easier than even the most basic practical shooting course. I am going by what I have been told by people who train LEO's and people who are cops who are also gun collectors and heavy shooter. I suspect that the Federal agencies may have better programs, but the Miami massacre doesn't indicate that their old programs were all that great.

How many shots would Carlos Hathcock have needed?

We had an incident recently where the cops knocked on someone's door at 4 a.m., then broke down the door when no one answered. I can't help but think if that had happened to me, I wouldn't have answered the door either, and would have probably shot the first cop through the door. That would have made me a cop killer and we all know what happens next.
