I'm sure the ACLU will be happy to back up a "wrongful death" suit from the family.

I've read this thread and I don't think anyone has said that the POS SHOT THE COP EIGHT (8) TIMES! Shot his dog once and the second cop once.

And killing a K-9 is the same a killing a cop in Florida.

Once behind the ear and once in the temple...at close enough range to leave a muzzle mark. One to the chest of the dog. This scumbag got what he deserved.

I'm wondering if that's because they are usually the ones to RETURN fire... Meaning the perp is taking the first shot, they are returning fire, while under attack. It would probably make my aim waiver too.

I had the horror of witnessing an LA county sheriffs deputy go thru qualifying with her new glock. It was sad at best, and yes they have to qualify shooting the pistol weak-side as well.

She did end up qualifying....barely. I can hear it now that I'm knocking women. Nope, the female rangemaster (in her 50s) qualified in flying colors, carries a glock 23 in .40SW and shoots my 1911 .45 as well as I do. (1st time shooting my gun)

I like the sherrif's response. That guy had it a commin'.

I also read a few years ago in, I think, Guns and Ammo, an article of a study that concluded that LEOs, on the aggregate (federal LEOs included) hit something like 1/5 shots.

I actually work in the town where this happened (Lakeland) - you should have seen the manhunt, blockades etc....

You have to remember that the perp did not indiscrimanately fire at the cop, he ambushed him, shot him and took him down - could have stopped there, but when the guy was on the ground, finished him off with 2 shots to the head execution style - one behind the ear and one in the temple. Did not leave the guy a chance !

Then when they found him in the woods and asked him to raise his hands, he raised one, and in the other he carried the officer's gun. 8 or 9 Swat people (from all surrounding conties) opened fire at once on the $#%$%. 110 rounds, 68 or so hits (not so good for Swat IMO), that means about 8 rounds per shooter, which is not all that much when firing an automatic weapon. I call it suicide by cops !

I say justice was served, and it was too kind ! It is that officer's wife Bday today, I believe....

Agreed on the result, but you have to wonder why it took SWAT more than one shot to kill the perp. Admittedly, the advanatage that a private citizen wouldhave had is thathe wouldn't have to try to apprehend the guy once he was sure who he was and what he had done. That, I'm sure, is part of why the private citizen defending himself has a higher hit ratio.

For the record, hooray for the good guys. Even if they can't shoot.

Very similar incident in Seattle a few years back. A squad car was stolen from one of the precincts, and two cops from other precincts thought they had spotted it, plus some perp impersonating a cop. So they start shooting at each other from accross the street, expending several dozen rounds on a crowded downtown street. Neither one was able to hit the other. Maybe that's when they both realized they were shooting at another real cop. Thank God they didn't hit anyone else in this idiotic display.
