I only wish this really had something informative about it. all speculation now a but of slander man I am glad I am over here and not there because I get the sense that some people like to talk too much. I could not stand to be there more then a few minutes. I am done with this thread unsuscribed

Just remember

You guys who are quick to judge, for some reason I dont believe you will give him the benifit of doubt about the cars ability until you see it. He offered, its going to happen..... And when the report comes back that it performed as advertised, Will you guys take all that crap back? Im just curious, because the comment on the picture of the tach leads me to believe that you wont.

So before this happens you need to clarify exactly what you would like to see...

1. pull to 8500 rpm in 2nd and 3rd gear....

2. Beat a 930 to 80 mph.... ( I know he said 90 in the beginning but given the stats on a 930 it will still be impressive by anyones standard to beat a 0 to 60 time as well as a 0 to 80 time)

3. the top speed thing....well if he can do the first two things I will give the benifit of doubt on the 3rd claim....I dont want someone to get killed just because of some arogant aurgument..if he did it before it just showed some lack of thought on his part. And Im sure he doesnt have the V rated tires on the car to do it anyway....Much less the place to do it.

Be prepared to eat crow......and ponder what your response will be if he proves you all wrong.

Die, thread, die...PLEASE!!!!

"THE ENGINE PULLS VERY HARD PAST 8,500+ RPM WITH NO PROBLEM! (YES PAST THE HIGHEST 8,000 RPM MARK ON THE TACH!).. "

That's because it has a metric tachometer.

WENESDAY IS A WORK DAY I EXPECT MAKE MONEY

I was talking to a few local Porsche guys last night and we laughed that Wednesday is a work day.. I plan on having the Porsche make me a days wages (Line em UP!).. They also said that most of you guys will try to wiggle out and go sideways..

The challenge that I made was very clear.

Just to make sure well in advance that we are all VERY CLEAR and on the same page about what the rules are..

Please read what I originally posted on the 5th page of this thread:

"I am more then willing to put my money where my mouth is! For those man enough to step up.."

"I offer to clip a $100 bill to the sunvisor of the 1973 911S as I shift through the first 3 gears at over 8,500RPM if the engine does not pull to 8,500 RPM the $100 is yours!... Of course I will expect that you guys are man enough to match the offer and if the engine does pull 8,500 then I get your $100. "

Again it says my $100 Bill AGAINST your $100 Bill!

Rule #1
8,500 RPM shift;

As I stated previously there are no marks past 8 on the 911 tach (see photo) so we will agree in advance that as long as the needle is WELL PAST the 8 (8,000 RPM) on the tach and the engine continues to pull the next gear after the first or second shift that this will be enough and I win!... No whinning I want to see it again, how do I know that it was 8,500 RPM or that the tach is inaccurate.. Any crap and I will push the factory eject button!

You also promise if asked by another perspective VICTIM.. "WELL WHAT HAPPENED?" ..To reply "I put up $100 you will need to do the same" until after 12:00PM.

Also to clarify the rules about racing any 930 Turbo FOR $$$...

I also said back on page 5 that I had out-run 930 Turbos. I have NO PROBLEM PROVING that also.

But those were stock US cars with a 4 speed trans.. Dont bring your super boosted , SC camed, 5 speed cars that have been stripped for racing and expect that I am going to race for the big $$. WONT HAPPEN!

I am happy to race (0-80+) against those cars but that will be just for bragging rights..

Also regarding the 165MPH. Others have pointed out that I NEVER EVER at any time said that I would attempt that speed.. BEEN there done THAT!

Posting the photo on this thread of 8,000RPM has probably already cost me BIG $$$

See you at the track!

tj willy 10-14-2006 12:11 PM

After that last post by EM, it would seem this be a good time to lock the thread - let the race take place, then open the thread for the results... It reads to me that everyone understands the rules. I think that EM stands to loose the most on this. (i.e. C-note for every person that puts up the money, car issues, reputation, etc) Further talk/trash-talk will only confuse things. Perhaps one of you old timers/mods can make a final post to sorta manage this.

Anyone agree?

Good luck to everyone and if anyone needs hosting for movie clips, pics, etc... let me know. I have a webserver with plenty-O-space.

randywebb 10-14-2006 03:56 PM

more crap -- he posted "proof" (a photo of the tach) but the needle was well below even 8k -- of course, he has an explanation: it was a split second later.

Now the criterion is "well-past" 8k on an unmarked tach - that is "equal" to 8,500 rpm in his distorted reality. Talk about wiggling out and going sideways...

I advise bringing a real tach and let's see what is what.

And note he drops his other claims re top speed and racing a 930 -- or maybe that is only 0-15 mph.

DohertyCM 10-14-2006 04:09 PM

Sorry Randy your reaching this time

Sorry Randy
The needle was touching the 8K mark.....it was not well below
and he hasnt backed down from the 930 statement....he said stock and maintained that.

I know you just have to be making statements like that to keep the thread going...there is a word for that ....antagonistic...

Keep it real.

:p

fintstone 10-14-2006 04:27 PM

What's the big deal? My old clunker will rev to 8k on the first three gears per my tach. Is that supposed to be "special?" Sounds like easy money to me.

tsuter 10-14-2006 06:36 PM

Here is EXACTLY what he said...

"1973 "S" CAR, EARLY 1973 "S" ENGINE ... I DO KNOW THIS ENGINE RUNS AMAZINGLY STRONG!.. THE ENGINE PULLS VERY HARD PAST 8,500+ RPM WITH NO PROBLEM! (YES PAST THE HIGHEST 8,000 RPM MARK ON THE TACH!).. THE ENGINE DOES HAVE THE ORIGINAL MECHANICAL INJECTION (MFI) WITH 013 PUMP... THE SHORT GEARED (HILL CLIMB RATIOS) 915 TRANSMISSION SHIFTS GREAT AND HAS THE RS LIMITED SLIP !...

..... ASK SOME OF THE OTHER LUNATICS THAT HAVE BEEN ON SOME OF THE LOCAL PORSCHE AND "R" GROUPE EVENTS WITH ME... THEY HAVE SEEN THIS CAR RUN AT OVER 165 MPH! AND HAVE SEEN THIS CAR OUT RUN 930 TURBOS AND OTHER RS TYPE CARS 0-100+ MPH.. PLUS REMEMBER IT IS A TARGA!...

Read it HERE:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1973-PORSCHE-911S-TARGA-SPORT-SEATS-RARE-%20OPTIONS_W0QQitemZ140038266026QQihZ004QQcategory Z10<br%20/>156QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

He went on to say that this amazing 165mph + feat was done WITHOUT the Targa top and presumably with the same short gearing!! All while outrunning Turbos and RS Types to 100+

This monkey is now back pedaling faster than a rat on a tread mill...

Todd Simpson 10-14-2006 07:45 PM

Put me on record for believing his claims.

An early 911 engine that spins to ~8500 rpm?

In a draft, 165 indicated using some sort of low profile tire?

An ebay ad with some exaggerations?

All seem possible to me.

aturboman 10-14-2006 08:27 PM

I just spent an hour reading this whole thing from front to back, I just can't believe I've missed this "fine" thread until today.

This whole discussion sounds like the arguments I heard in high school 25+ years ago. There was always some guy with the newest hot Chevelle or Camaro that everyone was buzzing about. His supporters spread the word on how unbeatable and fast his car was. Then there was the crowd who supported the long established town hero who always seemed to win in the end. Go watch American Grafitti and you'll get the idea.

This whole thing is a bit school boyish and immature. I hope for everyones sake it doesn't end up like the movie with a car upside down in a field along a California back road.

I'll admit I'm getting old. I no longer get worked up by my car is faster than your stories and certianly don't care to see people try to settle the bet on public roads.

DohertyCM 10-14-2006 09:53 PM

Couldnt resist

OH YEAH!!!...
WELL MY DAD's CAR CAN OUT RUN YOUR DAD's POS ANYDAY!

Sorry I couldnt resist the high school comment......
