Whats the best reloading equipment?

Whats the best reloading equipment? Dillon? Lee, or whatever.

I want a reloading system that does everything, just push a button, sit back and wallah, perfactly loaded rounds. Is there any such beast? Price is no object.

Then considering that everyone cannot afford a Ferrari, whats the Cadillac or BMW 750IL version of a reloader? What can it do, what does it not do.

Then what is well, just the working mans reloader, ie the Porsche one that gives a lot of bang for the buck? Sorry bad analogy, reloaders should not give any bangs.

I dunno of a fully automatic one like you describe but THE BEST progressive presses out there are Dillon...hands down. Best design, fewest problems and best service. If you load a lot of ammo...pistol and/or rifle get the Dillon 650 with case feed. Add the strong mount and bullet tray. You can easily load 500+ rounds per hour...maybe 1000 if you preload the primer tubes.

dillon.............unreal customer service! if your inclined......ask for mike as in mike dillon! yes even he will speak w/customers. quality control of dies and all other parts is second to none. ask me how i know??? we used to sell urshel mfg.(mike and scott are amigos) all their machine tools. if your here in scottsdale and stop by dillon, ask for the "tour" of the hanger!!!!!!!!! you will not be disappointed!

for shotgunning NOTHING tops the MEC 9000G.

yes pistol/rifle. dillon will do everything to help you, except shoot the gun! great guys.

For shotgun shells, having used the Mec's for 30 years, including the 9000H very automatic version of the 9000G, Mec's are fords compared to the Porsche of the Spolar Gold Premier hydraulic.

You better have LOTS of components and shoot a LOT of shells, because this will churn out huge quantities in very, very little time. Even the much more difficult to reload 410's.

I'm pretty old fashioned I guess. I have always used just a plain old single stage press from RCBS, the first and only I have ever bought. In 30-odd years of reloading, it has had darn near 200,00 rounds of rifle and handgun ammo assembled with it. It's not fast, but I'm never in a hurry. I reload as much to relax and tinker as to shoot. I guess if I was shooting IPSC or some other high volume, low accuracy requirement competition, I might have to look at a Dillon. Everyone I know that has a progressive has a Dillon, even if they started with something else.

Real quick answer: there is absolutely nothing immoral about firearms or their ownership and use. If you want more of an answer than that, start another thread. Let's keep this one related to the equipment.

Sounds like Dillon is the way to go.

Is the 650 really better than the 550? If your loading for accuracy I hear you really need to weigh the powder, is this really true? I will be loading primarily heavy ammo like the 45-70, 30-40, 30-06 that use like 50 grains or so. I might end up doing some 45 pistol as well, but it may not be worth reloading the pistol stuff. Military calibers seem to be covered by the Russians and their cheap ammo.

I used to be at the master level about 45 years ago, so I am thinking I can get back into it and go for grand master, thats if I can still see the target.

The simplest reloading system that I have found is called Walmart. Just show up, and throw some money on the counter. You don't even have to push a button. The automatons respond to voice commands.

For the most part my experience has been that people who weigh the powder for individual loads are two old to masturbate, and are just looking for an other distraction or time sink.

i would like to change my answer. dillon makes a killer media brass cleaner thingy, and a fantastic pistol progressive bullet reloader. with the stereo playing, my bro and i would crank out 9mm like a factory. if you are just gonna do centerfire rifle ammo, then any solid press will do. at that point it is all about the dies. we did well with a cheapo LEE press, which eventually broke and then we got a RCBS model. very similar. my brother and i were totally anal, with the powder, we would weigh each charge separately. we didnt rely on that measured dispenser.

i like reloading. i got away from it, when i started shooting weatherby calibers. i just couldnt get my bullets as fast as the factory bullets. but in my 30.06 days, i got scientific. it is very satisfying to shoot little clover patterns with homecooked ammo.
