Bush I instituted gun control without legislation, and Bush II refuses to change that making him a gun controller as well.

It also helped to cost Bush I the election in 1992.

You'll know taxes have been cut when government takes in less revenue; that hasn't happened under any Republican president in the post World War Two era as far as I know.

When you cut taxes revenues are typically increased.

But, you're correct on your initial assertion; both are equally corrupt.

They both suck, but again....Republicans tend to leave my guns alone. (And actually have passed concealed carry and anti-liability lawsuit laws in well over half the states of the union).

The Democrats must make the Republicans take the full measure of responsibility for the mess they've made of things over the last 6 years; that means that Pelosi, if she's smart, won't introduce any new expansion of government for the next two years, a hard task for a left coast leftwinger like her.

I still hold hope that a impeachment proceding can begin. It will be killed by the feckless Senate to be sure, but it needs to happen to the Bush'ists.

The Assault 'style' weapons ban was imposed under Clinton, along with Brady in 1994. These helped cost the Democrats the House and Senate.

True Assault weapons (fully automatic) were not banned, since they are already covered by NFA 1934. In fact, it is still legal to own fully automatic weapons.

The Assault 'style' weapons ban sunset in 2004. Brady (background check) is still in full effect.

Reagan signed the 1986 NFA which prevents any new fully automatic weapons from coming on the market, making those already on the market much much more valuable.

Rick Lee can probably expand on/correct me on these.

Actually, the Brady Law imposed a federal waiting period until the national instant check (NICS) system was fully online. Since VA had this done I believe even before Brady went into effect, we were exempt from it. But as far as I know, the NIC system is fully up and running, so there is no more fed. waiting period anywhere. Some cities and counties in VA instituted waiting periods, but they were done away with by the state legis. about two yrs. ago, since gun buyers could drive over to the next county and buy from those gun stores or gun shows. Waiting periods never had much of an effect other than to make liberals feel good and piss off gun owners. And in some parts of VA, if you try to buy a gun and the NIC comes up that you're ineligible, they don't just tell you no, they lock the store down and hold you there while the state police come to get you for even attempting to buy.

I know Bush senior passed some kind of ban because the NRA skitzed out at the time(remember the Jack boot thug comments and bush renouncing his membership, unfortunately W comes up on google searches instead of his papa when i type in "Bush gun control measures" or whatever).

The Brady bill was partially struck down in 1997, and the 5 day 'cool off' expired in 1998, ad was 'replaced' with the NRA backed NCIS system.

I forgot about reagans NFA, probably because i am not big on the 'merits' of fully automatic rifles or SMGs(i am a diehard single shot proponent, but then, given my background, this should come as no surprise).
