I've never understood "Recreational" drug use.

I didn't like being doped up in the hospital after having some bones put back together. I can't stand it when my brain isn't working right. I'd rather feel the pain than be doped out of my mind.

everybody responds differently to different drugs
could be that the stuff in the hospital isn't your thing

just like some people get instantly hooked on heroine and never manage to kick it, and others , myself included, don't even like it much

i'm not advocating you go out and try more kinds, but chances are, there could be something that would knock you off your socks

or perhaps you allready have something but you don't even know it... do you skydive? are you one of those long distance runners? do you lift weights obsessively? alcohol? nicotine? sugar?? caffeine?

it's all in the same ball park, some are legal , some are not
some have a high addition potential across the population
some do not,

drugs aren't new either, the only difference now is that they have been criminalized in a big way, and that there is a global trade of uppers and downers.. and escapisme use ( i favour that term over "recreational")

the psychedelics however have been around since forever, sjamans, medicine men, etc the select few that used to be considered the wise men of the tribe or clan.. unlike the teetotalers that rage wars now, on a reputation of "clean as a whistle, i' m better now"
(not saying there never were any medicine men doing wars , Zulu's for instance ate mushrooms before battle, gave them an edge, just pointing out that this modern fear of anything mind expanding is a bit irrational)

i say the likes of Bush , Osama, and all the other war mongerers oughta drop a big hit of acid, guaranteed to knock some sense into those geezers... some respect for live, for the planet, for things and people who are different.... tolerance...

they don't have the balls to take a 10 hour trip...the fear of the unknown rules them to much...

DRUG USE WARNING:

Never use Illegal Drugs as a crutch or in anger or depression. It will tend to be used again and again and then too much.

This is dependency and is bad! Like 4 years of Bad and like could have had a used 993 turbo bad. It can ruin any chance of fun, recreational use in the future and can possibly ruin your life.

If you have to use, make sure you aren't in a bad mood.

like what? Did I freak out? Did I die? Did I puke? Did they make me see god?

OK, here's my short advice:

pot. probably won't get into much trouble. don't drive high. don't be around jerks. pay for good pot...life is too short for buttweed.

coke. danger will robinson. gives you the impression that anything is possible. and takes away any of the time to accomplish any of it. some people can snort it and leave it. others can't quit and will be poor really quickly. smoking it is even worse with most people, but wasn't with me. go figure. important point here: how you react is very dependent on the individual, their biochemistry, and their environment and psyche.

crank/meth: just say no. like coke but with an edge that will push you over the edge. you feel ultra fast and high, but the low is abysmal. not worth the price of admission. move along..

angel dust (pcp): whack stuff. hard to get real stuff on the street. lots of weird mixtures of speed, etc instead of the real thing. leaves you pretty much incapacitated (at least me), but some get hyper violent. another one to avoid imho.

speed (black beauties, cross tops, etc): good if you want to stay awake or lose weight. bad if you get addicted to them. many progress from here to meth. use at your own risk.

downers (red, seconal, etc): don't drink with these or you might not wake up. don't drive. don't be depressed. slows you down real nice. depends on your personality

mushrooms: my favorite hallucingen. usually mild, about a 6 hour high. i liked to take them with a few (non-jerk) friends and go hiking in the hills. or play music. i did not like them at parties or crowded places. liked it less for the laughing/colors/trails/etc and more for the ability to get outside yourself and view your life situation from a bit of a 3rd party viewpoint.

acid: if it is good (we got some amazing L25 in santa cruz), it is like mushroom with a bit more of a kick and a bit longer lasting. if it is bad acid it sounds like your brain is frying...literally. had some purple pyramid that filled my ears with that sound. sucked. but good acid is a smooth takeoff, level at 10K feet, then a smooth down.

heroin: depends on the individual. luckily i didn't like it. my ex roomate did, and was an on-again/off-again user/addict. just made me puke and then not feel anything for about 10 hours. evidently smoking it is big in yuppie circles. smoking is *the* most efficient way to ingest any drug. be forewarned...the dragon does not discriminate and extracts a healthy toll

other pharma (vicodin, methaquaalone, valium, doriden, dilauded, etc): all fun if you know what you're doing. problem is once you're on them, you no longer know what you're doing. mixing alcohol makes it worse. 2 doriden sent me over the edge 23 years ago. end of my drug use.

need more detail? I got out of drugs before x came on the scene, but it is a speed variant, so i can imagine how it works. but again, it is dependent on the individual. bad acid trips happen to people who's minds are f*cked up...the acid just allows all the underlying stuff to bubble to the surface. my theory is that people who freak out on acid would freak out anyway given the right "non-drug" circumstances.

my advice? don't play unless you're ready to pay. i came out of a 5 year dance with the devil and won. most of my friends were not so lucky. many are dead. the rest are losers on the fringe of society. you wanna end up like that? party on francis...

I never used anything, not even smoked a cigarette. I have a sister who OD'd on heroin, PCP, and coke and was murdered, an aunt who OD'd on heroin and died, a cousin who ID'd on meth/coke and died, and an uncle who's purpose in life is to get more heroin. As I grew up, I saw firsthand the damage it did to those around the user. It was horrible. The real victims are not the person who uses the dope, it is those around the user.

Never touched any of it, and I am quite proud of myself for it. My friends all smoke pot and do shrooms, but I just stay away from it or tell them to take it someplace else. I have never smoked a cigarette in my life, but I occasionally smoke a good cigar every 3-4 months.

btw I am a freashmen in college. I am a rarity.

Everything - except pills.
Nothing was off-limits while I was in College. I even skin popped (as opposed to mainlining) heroin in a controlled experiment with a roommate from Hong Kong.
Truly a wonderful experience, but I don't have an addictive personality so there wasn't really the chance that I'd get too far into it.

I think I'm better for the experience, but wouldn't recommend that path for everyone.

The only thing that "stuck" was pot.
I don't smoke it now, well, very occasionally (Guinness and good Scotch are my current pleasure), but I find it quite agreeable and have no problem with those who partake.

Mescaline was the finest thing ever.
Light feel (as opposed to acid), but a wonderful hallucinogenic quality.

Too old for that crap now, but I'm thankful for all that I felt/experienced.
Altered reality can be a wonderful thing!

Lets not forget opium. Found that twice in college. Put it on top of a little green and let 'er rip. Made for a fast but intense high that was manageable. Problem is that you come down too soon and want to go back up. Heard it is hard to kick that habit once it takes hold. And it'll break the bank in the end.

Nostatic sums it up quite well, although I never touched heroin. I stopped when my roomate and I ate some bad shrooms and had a horrible night, each in our own way. He was found balled up in the corner of his closet crying. I was lying on my bed thinking my throat was falling apart. The evening statted out ok, but things turned when we both saw the t.v. melt.

I did notice that with both acid and shrooms, I could drink endless amounts of beer. Shrooms had me taking multiple showers and changing clothes while tripping. I was felt that I smelled of mushrooms and it drove me nuts.

Oh yeah, never did give up pot. I think the rules really need to be relaxed on this one. Besides, what does our Navy use for mooring rope....

I tried about all that was available in the late '60 & '70s, but wasn't impressed. Mostly felt it was a waste of time & just the popular thing everybody was into doing at the time. My roomates at the time frequently asked why I didn't get high with them. I always just said I had something else I had to do. They were usually too stoned to care.

I've never taken "recreational" (an odd term) drugs of any kind. I've never smoked and I've been truly "drunk" probably twice in my life. I don't like the feeling of being out of control in the least. Now I KNOW this is weird for most people, but getting "a buzz" even on a few beers or a few margaritas over dinner makes me feel, I don't know, odd. I am not holier than thou, I am just not like..well? You!

It isn't a pleasant feeling for me. But then again, I've never had the "I gotta try it" button either. I'm just hardwired differently I suppose. I don't have the slightest regrets about this.

i really don't think there's such a thing as bad acid Todd

there's low powered blotters, and high powered blotters

if you eat the latter, thinking it is the former
it will hit you like a freight train, and your set&setting will be under prepared, and yep, you'll get some pretty darn weird and whoop die doo scary crap

LSD-25 is supposed to be edgy as it coms up , at least if you got blotters that aren't the kind that has been laying in the sun a lot..

the only thing i could think off, is that there is LSD25, and there's another variant called iso-lsd, iso-lsd is supposed to be slightly less violent in the onset, a bit more mellow , closer to mushrooms which feel more natural

that sucking sound you describe, is what you get when you are on the edge of a psychedelic, and you fight it... metallic sound that enters your head, if you'de close yer eyes and focus on it , you'de probably go full blown and head for an ego loss experience

goes sort of like this :
"what's my name? what am i? what's what? huh?what's huh?...?what's ...?"

that ain't the scary part, can't be scared if you don't know nothing
the scary part is when you regain some situational awareness, you start to remember what you are, and then you remembe you are alive, and get confused as to coming or going....

I had wanted to try peyote, but never had the chance. Funny, it grows wild out in Mojave and the surrounding areas... If the chance were to arise, I may still be willing....

puked my guts out with peyote.

sorry, but there is bad acid when it is cut or has impurities. The best I ever had was liquid L25 dropped on a sugar cube in Santa Cruz. Wonderful stuff.
