Most annoying is the fact that half of these "gangtsa" wannabees are middle class suburban white boys. ( like my son)

The really bad part is that this was a great movie. I liked it WAY before it caught on in gangsta culture, and now I have to like the movie in secret. Dammit.

It's a great movie period. What difference does having others influenced by it make a difference. I bet the GodFather has 10 times the influence in society (Soprano's wannabe's) and that doesn't make me enjoy the movie any less.

True, although I find the shower scene more than a little disturbing... and for some reason the last half of the movie makes my nose itch.

I was watching it on Showtime the other night. The film is from 1983 and when Tony stops by the Porsche dealership to look at the 928 he walks past a whole lot full of 83 911's. Pretty cool.

It also cool to see the Southbeach scenes, the Hotels and shops etc.. Man I remember Miami / Southbeach in 1987 and it was a really bad place to be. Bayside was just opened up and we used to take the train down and jump on the people mover to Bayside. Looking back its amazing we nover got killed walking around down there. We were fearless stupid 19 y/o's.

Check out a movie called "Cocaine Cowboys", its a documentary about the cocaine wave of the late 70s / early 80s. Its a lot more interesting and you'll get a better picture of how these "gangsters" were actually living.

Some friends of mine used to live in the Keys in the late 70's early 80's when all this was at its height.

The stories they could tell. To this day when I see a soccer mom with a Conch Republic bumper sticker on her van or SUV I laught at them.

The Conch Republic was what the Keys called themselves when they tried to succede from the US.

There is a Regetta called the Columbus Day Regatta my friend was on a yacht with his lawyer. He noticed the district Judge, a few other judges, many lawyers and some politicians all on this huge yacht with them, tons of coke and hookers.

My other friend, his dad used to sit outside at night in the Keys and watch for the Helicopters coming in to either drop or pick up I cannot remember. Once the chopper left he would wander around and find the "work area" after they had left. He was able to scrape together enought pot and coke to make a tidy living. There was so much they did not care if bail had a hole in it. They just kept on moving and let it fall where it fell.

When the Government decided to put a stop to the gravy train coming out of the keys by shutting down US1 and searching everyone the Keys Succeded from the USA for 10 minutes in protest to the marshal law that came down on them. Hence the Conch Republic.

I personally witnessed the change in South Florida in the mid 80's as the bad people in Miami started to move up the coast into Ft. Lauderdale (where my wife lived when I dated her) and Hollywood them points north. The boatlift made Miami a madhouse for many years.

Remember this too - still remember hearing the souped up boats offshore at 3:00 in the morning... "Oh those are the coke runners..."

Damn!
I wanna see that Cocaine Cowboys movie!!!!

FWIW I never thought Scarface was anything more than a cool B-movie.

Godfather II, now THAT's a film.

In its' day, the original 1932 Scarface also caused much controversy and was edited for content and the "message" it was sending. That Scarface was based on Capone, who in the end has a shootout with police (not other gangsters).

That movie is tame compared to the remake and current movie standards. I just wonder if future society will shrug off the latest reincarnation as we do the original.

Actually, THAT's a SEQUEL. Probably the best sequel ever made but a sequel nonetheless. I own it, I love it but not more than the original. The Godfather was great on so many levels.

Did you ever see the TV version where they recut Godfather's I and II and put them in chronological order and added some scenes that never were in theaters? It was great. It was shown like a mini-series on TV sometime in the 80's I think. I think it can be found on Amazon or similar.

I remember that. At first, I thought I had a poor memory regarding the movies, then when I re-watched the originals independently, I noticed that the scenes which I didn't remember were not in the original versions(visiting the olive oil production facility in Italy, the introduction of Hymen Roth as a kid, etc.)

back on-topic--I like Scarface(both versions--the original was made by none other than Howard Hughes), the cinematography in the 83 version is incredible.

another movie note, in GTA III, when driving a car and selecting the "classic" radio station--it is all music from Scarface.
