Chris,
The end is in sight! Or shall we say a new beginning?

The warm nights on Mulholland will return soon. With a gentle Santa Ana breeze at our backs, we will enjoy seeing the beautiful lights of the Valley again.

Jeff and I have been planning something that I know everyone will want to participate in.

A highly modified version of the old days is possible for short durations with careful planning.

All working parts that have been exposed to fuel are under Chemtool.

Here is the other side.

What the fuh? What was that in the picture? A bug, a spring? Something gone spritzen?
I heard Ermes Borgnino couldn't find his paper this morning.

MFI Pump Udate

After checking the pump last evening, this morning, and at noon, there is no noticible difference as yet. The control rack is still stuck with fuel laquer. So are some of the pistons.
The liquid Chemtool has changed color to a darker shade. It is outside the house and garage covered by a sealed bucket. The fumes are too much to be in the garage. It's a good thing a coyote or racoon didn't knock it over last night.

Porsche MFI

I can turn the gearcrank, it still has a hard spot. I hope that this Chemtool works.

I want to thank those people that referred me to other threads for relevant info on this pump.

A New Beginning

Derek,
I mis-spoke (just like some political candidates), you are completly correct. A "new beginning" is just what we will have. There are no "old days" anymore, we now have the "new days" to experience. But we're still going to have a heck of good time. This is the time of the MIRRC.

More updates on the car and the book still to come. ;)

Progress

What do you know?....Now two pistons are working properly. I just checked the MFI pump at 5:30.
So far it looks promising. The control rack is still badly frozen however.

48 hour update on MFI

Still no movement on control rack or four of the six pistons.

When the pump is removed from the pail of Chemtool, "Rusty" comes out of the fuel gallery.

It needs more time to hopefully free up the rest of the pump.

If this were to work, it would be a 'cure all' for many old MFI pumps.

Chris, did you read the thread I last posted? It's all there for you...

Thanks again Dave, the more info the better. On the road again...hopefully soon.

As I quickly scanned a few of the links, I noticed that some guys soaked their pumps or a week. It's nice to know one other piston/plunger freed.

Dave

What about future generations? Last weekend, I took the racecourse home from my parents'. It was nighttime, and my 3 yr-old son was riding shotgun with me. (One of the nice things about driving a car without airbags and no real backseat.) I took the liberty to point out the various landmarks of the racecourse to him. A couple days later, my wife remarks that she was returning from my parents', with kids in tow. My son, in the backseat, narrated her a tour of the landmarks, as well. ;)

That's great! It would have been cool to have shot some video of your son giving a tour of the Racecourse. We all would have loved to have seen that. I bet that he's quite entertaining.

On a side note, the MFI Pump is still not freed up yet. More corrosion comes out of the fuel gallery when it is removed from the solution. More time is needed to get things loose.
