May has gone by quickly. But there's still time for a monthly coffee sip and meet. Same place - Starbucks by the 2 and 210 Fwys in So. Cal., Sunday, May 25 @ 7am.

Here are the usual directions:

Same place; Starbucks in La Canada.

How about the drive on Monday? Did this just fade into black?

vntgspd 05-25-2008 07:32 PM

I might be in if you all get together but otherwise I am probably staying home to take care of the deferred maintenance on the 993.

I'll keep an eye on the thread...

lfot 05-26-2008 12:33 AM

How about a late night run?

(So many question marks)

How 'bout an update on the pump Chris ?

After talking with Robert at Jerry Fairchild Industries a couple more times, I decided it was time to send the M.F.I. pump out.
Robert said that there were three Porsche M.F.I. pumps on the bench ahead of me. I said that I didn't mind a wait since I've been waiting a long time to
get this car running already. Thanks to Dave Mason for the address of the closest Fed Ex.

I found out that shipping was only $20.00 to Redding, CA.
Insurance however was another $30.00
The modified 2.8 RS pump is probably worth $3000 to $5000 depending on who you talk to, hence the high insurance cost.

On the way home, I stopped at OSH, right next to Kevin's shop in Van Nuys and saw this CLEAN Sunbeam Tiger. Wow!

Now that the Porsche M.F.I. pump is sent out, I have about 6 weeks to rebuild and refurbish the brakes, wheels, fuel system, tires, trim, and a few other matters.
I will post photos of the rebuilding process.
We should have a engine starting party guys.

Brush

The past few weeks have been occupied by clearing all the brush that grew from the rains we had. Here is how it looked in April.

Here is how it looked in May from the same location.

On the first page of this thread is a photo of the Carrera in the living room with Bruce K. and myself. Bruce is the first person that I met on the first day of Junior High School and we have been friends ever since. He has to be one of the craziest dudes around, believe me. I could write a short story about his life's experiences that would make an impression on anybody. We always have been in disagreement about who is crazier, it's him for sure.

Bruce used to ride with me on Mulholland in various cars back in the old days, but will no longer get into a vehicle with me for some strange reason. He would rather race his killer motorcycles. He goes to Willow on weekends and has broken most of the bones in his body while racing on the track or on Angeles Hwy.

By the way, Bruce was the one who was with me in my '73 911S, the night I raced Charley in his old pickup truck (circa 1974). After getting passed in front of Grandstands in front of all the onlookers (how embarrasing), and me getting a flying beer can in his wake, he was off to the west. Charley made sure that no one passed him by flying all over the road, left shoulder to right shoulder, driving at the ragged edge. After barely passing him in European Straight (near death on that one), I was able to pull him about 20 car lengths before shutting off my lights and disappearing into my street. We had been racing at speeds between 55 and 95 mph thru the hairpin turns. It was the best night race that I ever had on Mulholland. Maybe that's why Bruce won't get into a car with me again? Who knows? We sure had fun though:)

Here is a email that I got recently from Bruce about George M. and myself.

George:

I saw your name on one of Chris Banning's e-mails and thought I'd drop you a
note and say hello. Every time I see Chris, our talks eventually turn to
the old days on Mullholland, of which you and Chris were the craziest.

I know you're a young guy, but I've moved on in years and since 2004, have
broken my arm and legs on these two wheels monsters twice. I have not
ridden much since 2006 due to injuries and my first day back on the track
(Willow Springs) was May 3rd. I'm on the black Kawasaki ZX10r.

I hope this finds you and your family well.

Sincerely,

Mr. Bruce Kusada

Here are some photos that Bruce sent me from Willow Springs two weeks ago.

Lemans in France. Pictured is Valentino Rossi, 7 time world Champion and probably the greatest motorcycle rider in history and in the world.

This picture was circulating around and Bruce was tormented by everyone that said it looked like him. The words above the photo are Bruce's own.

Tag! Your it Chris..

I beg to differ on Rossi being the greatest. Impressive yes. He still has to gain 2 more world championships before he tops Mike "the bike" Hailwoods records. Most likely Rossi will soon but the Hailwood record still stands today even after his passing 27 years ago ( wow how time flies)

9 World Championships
76 Gran Prix wins
14 IOM TT victories

These are only what he won on two wheels.

On another note your buddy Bruce has quite the cycle career. Also impressive.
I found this pic of Bruce at Willow. Out of courtesy I blured the face out. It reminds me of the one taken in your living room. Hands still planted on hips.
