My Toyota hates me by the time I get to the bottom of the hill. Well, the brakes sure do protest. I don't think I've ever been airborne in a Toyota Corolla before! The thing does handle though. I was reading a number of comments on my Corolla and a few thought that the handling was terrible - if they only knew! Some better tires and actually being able to see out of the windshield (that mist left a salt grease on my and I could not see when there was oncoming traffic).
Good times. Dave Alarick: I'll be happy to PM and text you in the future... Let me know.

Someone did something like that recently and posted. Looked pretty cool, but more for long hoods.

I have seen Dave do amazing things in the Corolla. Even pulled a quarter back sneak on me last year on Mul.

Hmm, if I have the Toyota next meet, be sure to check it out, there may be a few subtle additions to the exterior...

A little 5-0 report: saw a pair of motorcyclists getting fast riding awards this morning on Mul Hwy, between Stunt and Las Virgines.

While following this thread, I saw that Banning was coauthor to a book titled "The Mulholland Experience." I ordered it online through the public library system, and picked it up about a week ago. I just finished reading it about 30 minutes ago and must say that it was an outstanding read. It captured the flavor of the road and experience and I felt I was in the car with Banning! I highly recommend it.
I missed the updates regarding the gathering on the 10th.......I look forward to meeting the man. There are some very good recounts from our own mechanic extradinaire Dave B., owner of TRE. Having owned a chop-top 1958 Ghia, I look forward to seeing Banning's amazing RSR. My compliments Banning, David

Geez guys,I haven't been on here for months since it turned into a shrine for Chris's chop top rebuild!. Seriously here's probably the third most famous vette on Mul from back in the day next to Charlies and Carradines .. if you saw it in person Dennys senior menu is closer than you thought!
Protecto Plate reads delivered 11/69 at A.E.Nugent chevy, the halcyon days of the MRA.. Dave B didn't you loan him a screwdriver for curbside repairs on this one day up there?? |

I have a strange feeling Roger from Brunos Corvettes did the glass mods on that car unless was done after Charleton sold it. It has Brunos all over it. 40 gallon tank? One way to get a tail happy car planted sticky. Price is right for what it is. Nice to see you are back we missed you!

I'm very happy that you found it so interesting and "outstanding". The second edition (that is coming along slowly) will have 20 more photos, repaired and added text, and have a new table of contents and time-line that is more accurate. In effect, a great improvement. I have been able to do this largely due to some of the critique from the early part of this thread, and from some suggestions from people like Victor VT., John H., Bruce K., and Jeff H. Thank you all for your suggestions and critique. This was what I needed to make something that I can be really proud of, the second edition of The Mulholland Experience. For the past three days I have been cutting, welding and painting steel. I can get back to the Carrera later today but a secret project is coming that I will post sometime soon. Quite interesting! I have talked on the phone with John H. and latebrakeu2 (Mark M.) this morning and either Heston's Vette was repainted with different wheels or this is his other "custom" Vette that he kept at home. Mark and I will investigate. I never saw an orange Vette like this one on Mulholland. John and I remember that his green Vette had stock fenderwells with a big hood scoop unlike the one in the photo (L88 not cowl induction). I have emailed the seller and asked what the original color was and what the paint code says on the service tag. That should answer our question. I did see Charlton Heston a few years ago in a newer Vette (black) on Java sometime before his passing while he was visiting Fiona Flannigan. She is a neighbor and is the actress who played the wife of Dr. Noonian Sung (Data's father/creator) on Star Trek TNG. Last edited by Banning; 07-15-2008 at 07:14 AM.. |

Heston's Vette
I recieved an answer from the owner of Heston's Corvette:
I think the orignal color was silver. heston changed it when he had the body kit installed when new. This car is NOT orange. It is bright RED. The sun was bright in the pics. Thanks for your intrest, Eddie We need to see the paint code to be sure that this isn't the car that Charlton Heston drove on Mulholland. Right Mark? |

Will the real Corvette stand up?
Quote:
I emailed the owner to get the paint code, his response was: paint 986 trim ZQ4, Had to go look. Then I called Finish Master in Van Nuys and they identified the color as Silverstone if it was made in 1968, or Patina Silver if it was made in 1969-1970. He probably got too much attention from the cops in this Corvette, especially on Mulholland. So this is the car that Charlton Heston kept at home and hardly ever drove. I remember hearing about this car in the late 70's , but I never saw it until now. Cool ![]() Thanks for posting. (I will contact Mrs. Heston personally to verify this (correct/incorrect) if it becomes neccessary. The Vette could have been painted green (early on) and then red later).
