After some searching thru drawyers, the original material (neoprene) was located along with a sheet of cork. I remember that the cork didn't work well.
The neoprene sheet was placed into the bottom of this drawyer in 1976 for some day when it would be needed again.

Using the old one as a template, a new one is constructed with little difficulty.

WOW!! Those pics at Deadmans are priceless. It's great to see that car back in action again. It was just a picture in a magazine from my childhood, now a reality. Way cool!! The exhaust was full of oil when I began repairs.
It had drained back from the front oil tank (16 quarts) over the years.

Gunk was used to attempt to clean all the oil out of the exhaust, but some remained.
The car probably just needs to be driven longer, with a few more 8000 rpm slam shifts.

Old Mulholland postcards
 

I found more old Mulholland stuff.

Here are two old postcards.

The first postcard is a very early photo of the Mulholland Dam. You'll notice that there are no houses except for the Damkeepers house next to the west dam abutment.
A couple of Ford Model T's? are on the Dam itself along with a few people walking on it.

This road around the resevoir was the first Mulholland Drive and existed before the Mulholland Drive we know of was even built.
The area that was to become the Mulholland Drive we know, is visible in the distance. Radu's house is just off the photo to the left and about 50 years into the future.

The photo was taken around 1925.

This old linen postcard is of the Mulholland Fountain located near Griffith Park.
It's still there today and has a most beautiful display of water and colored lights that can be seen at night.

Whale Tail repair
 

Kevin repaired the Carrera's Whale Tail yesterday with fiberglass.

The latch bulkhead has been loose for 20 years.
Kevin repaired it better than new.

He added fiberglass cloth to strengthen the joint. Very clean job.

After taking acetone to wipe away old paint and dirt, we discovered that the Tail was made by Omnidesign (circa 1975).
Kevin remembered that Omnidesign was in competion with A.I.R. back in the 70's. Both companies produced fiberglass parts for racing Porsches.

Back then, Kevin worked for A.I.R.
My car was at their shop for two weeks in 1976 while Danny M. looked over the slant roof design of the Carrera.

I had a great time talking Porsches with Kevin as always.
He is very knowledgable and skilled at all forms of body restoration.

Usually no one does any work on the car but myself but in the hands of an artist like Kevin, it's OK with me and the Carrera.

Brake pads
 

After being informed that Original Porsche brake pads were unavailable for the rear and front pads available only from Germany, I felt somewhat setback.

So I went to see Dave and Jeremy at TRE Motorsports for advice since they are experts with Porsche replacement parts.

Brake pads
 

Dave and Jeremy had excellent brake pads for the Carrera, made with a ceramic compound.
Jeremy said that his brother Tony (who I have known for a long time) loved those pads on his Porsche. Jeremy sent Tony a set and he almost went thru the window.
I can't wait to try them.

Here is one of Dave's Porsche racecars. Jeremy went down the list of cool modifications for me but there were so many it's hard to remember them all.
The car has coil over shock suspension, big red brakes, flush rear window, roll cage, 996? motor, custom bodywork, and much more.
