What's the word, Banning?

Got Tires?

Got registration?

After completing all the requests of the DMV, tags were issued, the plate installed, and after many years, we are ready to ride the wind again.

I feel like driving it tonight.

It was interesting that yesterday I found my collection of plates that I have been looking for. Coincidence?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1232169708.jpg

Here is the MLHLND plate in the old blue and gold colors. This is the plate that the car originally had on it from 1976 to 1986.

This is the reflective plate that the DMV wants me to use from now on. Reflective plates supercede any older plates that have dropped out of the system.

What's the story on the 57 188F plate?

Rollcage

Yesterday I spent the day polishing the rollcage in the Carrera.
Since it is made of T6 Aluminum alloy, it polishes up very nicely.

T6 is twice as strong as steel in compression strength. The cage connects to the body in 14 places, not the usual 6 pt. cage you see in most cars.
You can see John Masons signature stamp in the photo. By itself, the cage is a beautiful piece of artwork and is custom made for the "slant roof".

John told me that the car woud endure a "7 time", end over end collision in excess of 120 mph with his rollcage installed. I was quite impressed with his claim.

This is a photo before polishing.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1232170490.jpg

I used Stanley Premium Polishing Paste on the aluminum and it worked like magic. Unbelievable that the finish would return so quickly.

It shines like electric chrome and looks...well you gotta see it to believe it.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1232170527.jpg

In the middle of the polishing process, I stopped to address the lexan glass fogging. See how it is fogged out in the left rear side window?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1232170548.jpg

Look at the left rear side window now, and it's not finished yet.

This weekend should be interesting. ;)

From the 1970 El Camino that I used to race on Mulholland with.
Solid bushings, Konis, big sway bars front and rear, 12 bolt posi, trick shift turbo hydro 350 trans, Z28 engine, and 10x15 Centerlines are just a few of it's attributes.

Wow... you aren't kidding... I can see San Diego. :D

Okay, I'm sure you're not gonna ever use that Deeper and Harder plate holder again, but that Catch Me if You Can holder has to go... it's just gonna tick off the first cop who pulls you over, isn't it?

Heh heh.

I thought you were allowed to run "older" plates, if you still had them. Most people don't have the original "older" plates, so they wind up running the current ones. But I thought there was some loophole/exception that allowed running vintage plates if those were previously used on the vehicle.

So when is the RSR going to be out on the street in person? Some are curious.

When was the last time you even saw a quick box up for sale?

AMEN!!! And to think of the ones I sold years ago to street rodders...."Awww, they'll never sell anyway"....

KevinP73 01-17-2009 06:46 PM

I mistook an original Yenko rear deck lid for a home made part and left it behind when I picked up the rest of the car. BIG MISTAKE ?!?
More recently I missed out on a telescopic column 'cause I forgot the end date on an e-bay auction. I could have bought the entire car for $500.
I've also heard that running quick arms with a box made the steering way too quick, kinda like a go cart.

Good point John. We may just go back to using no plate holder like it was long ago.
No point in adding to a multitude of potential nightmares. ;)

The first day that I met John Hall was at the gas station deep in Beverly Glen where the 4 oaks restaurant was located later. (I remember paying 35 cents a gallon).

I was getting gas for the Carrera, it was still in primer, and he pulled in behind me.
After talking for awhile, I invited John to my house to see my home shop and he came over later.

The first thing he did was play this tune from Supertramp on his warbling old bad cassette player located in his racing Mazda.
The second thing he did was take me for a hell ride like I was used to dealing out to my passengers. ;)

John introduced me to the Grandstands crowd and he also became a best friend for life.
We still talk about that day that he came over for the first time and the music he played. This tune called School.

Thanks Jeff.

Mulholland Meeting

Very soon. Just a couple more details.
I will install the ceramic brakes that I got from you and Dave tomorrow.

A small adjustment in the shifter rod is needed. Since I replaced the engine, second is not engaging fully.
New Blue Streaks will be ordered Monday now that we know we can drive it legally.

Maybe we should get together on Mulholland soon just for fun.

Since the old MLHLND plates were no longer in the system, I had to re-claim them.
Re-claiming the plate created the new reflective plate.

Once a personalized plate has been issued in a reflective design, they will not let you go back.
It appears that the DMV would like to have all plates reflective. Probably a request from Law Enforcement.

If I drove with the old blue plates it would be fine until I get pulled over, (if that would ever to happen).
The cop would run my plate and it would come up as being a reflective plate at which time I would be in big doo doo.
The plate and or the car could be taken from me, so to avoid that headache, the reflective plate will be used.
