Those supports were put in later. Your lines are about right. The light is doing funny things, but the the walls on either side of the tunnel (inside) are straight. The track would have been from edge to edge.

First the rear wheels went to Service Tire in Van Nuys to get re-mounted.
Rubin who has worked there for many years is an expert at difficult wheel mounting jobs. We have known each other since he started working there. I trust him.

The tire bead was extremely difficult to break since the tire had been on this wheel for about 30 years.
It took Rubin quite a while to get the wheels free. He was very careful and didn't make a mark.

At this point I had to walk away. The stress of thinking of those magnesium wheels being scratched by the tire machine was too much.

Inside the rear and the front wheels were racing tire tubes. I called Roger Krause Racing and they said that they could be omitted if I wanted to not use them.
Less unsprung weight.

Check out the mounted tire on the ground vrs. the old mounted tire on the tire machine.
The new tires fit incredible. By this time I was jumping up and down at the tire store. The new tires filled out just like they said they would. Incredible.

These are the unmounted new front tires. They really look strange and sucked in. They appeared as though they would never fit when mounted.
But I was mistaken.

The fit is incredible.
The new front tires raise the car just right, about 3/4 of an inch. The ride should be quite a bit softer and less bone-jarring with these new meats.

Any doubts about the look of the new Goodyears has been dashed.
They look so killer and feel so sticky that I am having a difficult time keeping the Carrera restrained. "Let's see how they perform", she begs.

You have to see the Goodyears to fully appreciate them.

Be carefull driving around up there today, I got nabbed this afternoon on the east side
just west of outlook. He was sitting on the other side of the street as I came around a corner
going eastbound. I didn't think he was coming after me and I got balked by a slower car.
Next thing I knew, Lights and sirens, Damn!!! Anyway the guy was a gearhead and turned
out to be cool. He had me for speeding and blowing the stop @ Woodrow Wilson at the very
least. I guess if he really wanted to be a dick he could've taken me for recless but instead he
just wrote me for expired tags. Sometimes you just get lucky ;>)
Anyway keep your eyes open.

From what I can tell, There was a big steel beam installed under the bridge and those wooden supports are keeping it up. Looks like the steel beam was installed after racing was no more. It looks stable without the support, but I guess it isn't.

I have a few more pix from the track today. I will post those a little later.

Banning: Didja happen to bring along a scale and weigh all this stuff while it was apart before being all mounted together?

I think my next photo project will be photographing Mulholland Dr. I'll try and get as many relevant still photos from the "side of the road" and try and match the images to the above map.

BTW, John, right before "Carls" is where I started to get a little vocal....

The front tires weigh 14.5 lbs., the rear tires weigh 19.0 lbs., and the wheels are so light it's not worth mentioning. ;)

I love the look of ALL the Devin bodies, the Devin SS being one of my favorite designs. IIRC, Bill Devin was the first to use rubber timing belts, and got laughed at about it.

Before driving it seemed a good idea to put the rear sway bar back on.
It was taken off because he old end link bushings were so wasted from the years that they were not useable.

In the plastic bag is one of the new bushings.

This red synthetic grease is the best kind to use on plastic type solid bushings.
It has a nice vibrant color to it.

After well lubricating the inside of the collars and the bushing, big channel-locks worked great to push the new solid bushings into their final position.
It took a few attempts, and a few swear words.
