That said, yes, SW chip, no cat, Dansk premuffler. A/C is gone and the heat has been backdated, all loose carpets are in a closet and the center caps are on my entertainment center  I did 4 runs. The other three came in at 214,214 and 215. The last run went into redline on each gear. |

The "period correct" and "rear Downforce=less likelihood of bad things" logic makes perfect sense, she just looks sooo sweet as is! Thanks for the pictures and I think I just found my new screen saver image. |
Don't ask me where I got this pen from. It's not the greatest pic but the pen says "Mulholland" " The road of champions"

I am not a mechanic but I think the lack of center caps is likely the big factor here! |

New Tires finally
Well Guys, the day has arrived. I bought new Goodyear Blue Streaks for the Carrera.
They were very helpful at Roger Krause Racing. Thanks to Joe who works there. Joe spent lots of time with me to be sure that we are getting the right size tires and the correct compound. They will be delivered next Tuesday and should look just like what's in the picture. ;) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1232569294.jpg The original Blue Streaks were 24.0 x 8.0 - 15 for the front, and 25.0 x 10.5 - 15 for the rears. They are the old tires that are being replaced. To get almost the same tires, the fronts will be the 5.50-15 tires, and the rears will be the 6.00-15 tires. The fronts are 1 and half inch taller and 1 and third inch wider but the rears all almost exactly the same. I will have to accept a different tread pattern on the fronts than on the rears to get the correct size. They are "rain tires". Goodyear no longer makes the variety of tires like they used to. Here is the information for sizes and compounds on available new Blue Streaks. Blue Streak Can Am SOFT TO HARDER > SW/ Vintage Type R430 R600 R655 FIRM DIA RIM RIM T.W. Residents and Road

Residents may gesture to slow down, I've seen that. Otherwise they are happy to be safe in their home. No throwing. No local rent-a-cops on Mulholland unless you are talking about the ones that provide security for movie shoots. Aside from the LAPD, there are local Rangers that believe that they are law enforcement. They like to throw their weight around. I have heard bad things but have had no bad experience myself. I suggest caution when dealing with the Rangers. By the way, they are slower than a 36 horsepower VW that has one spark plug missing, has bald tires, and needs a tune up. ...depending on the driver of course. ;) |

Part of the Legend

We would all like to meet you and I'll give you a ride in the Carrera if you want. The people that I've met thru this thread have been really great. Made some new friends that are interesting and nice to know. Most of these new friends are the ones that have contributed to this thread. Some were met because they were friends of a thread poster, all good. Some examples are Crazy Radu (and his wife to be, Kai), Mellow Jeff H., Musical Derek, Photowiz Dave M., Successful Dave B. and Jeremy C., Old-Timer Doug H., Talented Kevin, Engineer Chris, and more. It's been a real "Mulholland Experience" and a fantastic ride. The Carrera agrees. ;) Thanks again Derek. We can meet at Truckstop as soon as the weather warms. |

Racing Tires
That Roger Krause Racing is fast!
The Goodyears arrived at about 1:30 this afternoon. They look fresh, sticky, and smell like just-poured-rubber. Wow! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1232840596.jpg You gotta love that big white "Good Year" on the sidewalls. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1232840613.jpg These are the fronts, they have a typical old fashioned zig-zag tread pattern. Notice how they suck in, quite interesting. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1232840634.jpg |
Racing Tires
These are the rear tires.
You gotta be kidding, if that's tread then how can any water escape from hydroplaning? Not that I mind... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1232841073.jpg This is the tire tag fastened to the tread. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1232841097.jpg Notice the little rubber doo-hicky's extending out from the tread. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1232841116.jpg It's a shame they're not intended for Highway use. ;) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1232841151.jpg In this close up photo of the tread and sidewall, you can literally see the sticky texture of the rubber. But when touched, even at a cold temp, it feels kind of like tape. This rubber is awesome. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1232841169.jpg |
Way to go! You sure they just didn't pour in enough rubber for the rears?
Are these the same size as the old tires? |
Rubber

One things for sure, the rears will get more traction because they have less tread. The new rears are almost the same size, the fronts are slightly larger than the old ones in diameter and width. It sure dosn't look like they are even similar but they should fill out. |

Expect all sorts of black goo buildup under your flares. A little natural undercoating wont hurt! Those are basic slicks buddy. That is not tread. The (Klingon wing shaped) sipes that make up a sort-of rib are to keep the contact patch cool and allow deformation under load. It also allows temperature readings at different sections of the contact patch. It is a faux water groove (yeah right). Back in the CanAm days when cars had high power to weight ratios chunking and blistering was a big issue with completely smooth slicks so it was regged in that grooves were required. Goodyear and Firestone carried this practice over. The void ratio of the grooves is very low so they don't even come close to "rain / water channel territory". The lightning bolt sipes do the same thing and are also your wear indicators. The grooves also aid in self-cleaning effect (pebbles, debris). The first step in the groove is usually 1/32 of an inch. When the groove goes away time for the recycle bin. Bon Jovi warning on the sidewall: "Slippery When Wet". |
Any of you know about the race track in Agoura Hills? It's right off Mulholland Hwy. Cool stuff! I'll post pix later ;).
