Re-pave

They started early this morning. Looks like new pavement is going down.

Check out this huge asphalt scraper making a pass over the double yellow. ;)

Look at those tracks, I wonder how it handles in the turns. How's the oversteer?

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1245598737.jpg

What's in the bag hanging off of the back?

Noah930 06-21-2009 08:32 AM

Hey, when those guys are done resurfacing the Racecourse, couldya point them over to the intersection of Burbank and Sepulveda? I think I saw a small Hummer get swallowed up in one of the potholes there, last week.

I was going thru that intersection on Sat as I was leaving the shop. Some woman spotted the pot hole at the last second and swerved to the right to avoid it. She hit a pedestian in the crosswalk in the process. If that doesn't get that mess fixed nothing will.

Is John Hall a member on this fourm yet?
I'd love to hear some of his stories...

Chris,
Good news on the repaving, if a little inconvenient for you.
Don't know about the funding but the roads dept schedule for repaving roads is every 20 yrs.
Since the last repave was mid '80s seems like they're on schedule. Wonder if after they
finish this section if they will continue east to Laurel. Hope so

I talked to the job supervisor for awhile late Sunday afternoon. I asked how repaving is being paid for in a weak economy. He said that the new budget doesn't cut in til July 1. He also stated that someone with influence made city council decide to pave that particular section of Mulholland.

He believed that it was the wealthy of Beverly Park that made this happen at this time. Denzel Washington drove out of Beverly Park and waived at him earlier in the day by coincidence. However I believe that it was the influence of one resident that lives across the way. Whoever he is, he blows away the rich of Beverly Park.

I took some more photos of the construction for everyone to see.

After scraping, they made many passes with street sweepers to clean/prep the surface.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1245857815.jpg

Here they are laying down fresh asphalt near the bottom of the Esses.
It was fun to watch. Those guys are artists. Perfection.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1245857840.jpg

Here is that section completed, two hours later.

AWESOME! Finally the Esses have been repaired and it is SMOOTH! Now this is Mulholland.
Gotta get out there before the double yellow shows up ;)

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1245857890.jpg

They are coming again this weekend to pave all the way to Beverly Park so Mulholland will be closed again, for your information.

Looks pirated to me.
I have a couple DVD's like that.
Some fly by night company (or some guy in his basement) churning out DVD versions of VHS tapes.

King of the Mountain (1981) Polygram Pictures, released by Universal, was never produced in the DVD format.

Old VHS copies (mostly rental copies) are readily available on ebay for a reasonable price.

DVD versions started to appear about 4 years ago produced by someone who converted a clean VHS copy to digital format. I bought a copy myself from this person about 4 years ago. From that DVD copy I have made many copies that are free to anyone who visits Mulholland on a night that we are gathering. Now that the weather is cooperating we are ready to meet again. Any interest? Jeff, Dave, Kevin, Radu, Derek, Chris, Kiley, Jason, Nick, and the rest of the usual suspects?

The Carrera runs and drives. The Excellence article is done, printed, and being delivered while I write this sentence. You guys should appreciate the details in the article.

Being an outlaw racer meant the Carrera could not get attention and was hidden from everyone except those that saw it run once in a while on warm summer evenings. Now that those days of organized racing are long gone, (and it's hard to accept that they are gone, I miss them), the Carrera can finally get the credit it deserves.

Note: Many years ago I was given the theatrical preview release of King of the Mountain in 35mm film that was showed to audiences as a teaser before the main show.
If anyone here knows how or where to digitize 35mm film please let me know. Then we would have a super clean digital copy of at least the trailer. Thanks

I'm up for a meeting. Btw I passed through early Saturday morning. New pavement is sweet.

Sounds do-able. Depends on the night though.
