Better check on that.
Aug 2 was the marque day for Porsche at Supercar Sunday in Topanga Mall.
Aug 29 is Cars and Coffee at the Commons at Topanga and the 101. Dave B. told me that on Monday.
Please verify

Fast 928

Jeff Hailpern sent me this link to photos of a 928 Porsche powered by a Boeing T-50 turbine.
Jeff correctly said it was cool to be smog exempt. No kidding.
It runs on Diesel!

Put another shrimp on the Barbi...

Almost done with the drive? I seeing pics of the rsr! Maybe a garage teaser is in order.

maxwedge 08-15-2010 06:58 PM

I spent three long nights last spring staying up late reading this whole thread and I still come back to check on it every few weeks. Enjoyed every minute of it. If nothing else it inspired me to put my modded Alfa Spider back together so I could do some autocross events and just enjoy the car again. It's no Porsche, but someday I would love to take it on Mul. I grew up in IL and we had our own Illicit gearhead rituals here, but I've been fascinated with the whole Mullholand scene ever since I saw the KOTM movie in the early 80's.

I do have a question that I don't think I've seen addressed here yet. Does anyone know what ever happened to the Porsche replica that was used in KOTM. Obviously not the real thing, but none the less somewhat of an iconic Mullholand car and it would be sad to know it's lingering in the back of some dune buggy shop, or was long ago cut up for scrap?

ac27 08-15-2010 06:59 PM

woops meant "I MISS seeing pictures of the rsr!"

Slight delays are occuring. Last Saturday at 5 am heard a crash outside. Found a branch broke off it's main trunk in the upper yard.

Had to get a friend to help take it apart.

I will take some photos, and also some video showing how easy the Carrera starts now and with no smoking anylonger.
That New Years Run really cleaned her out! The racing starter that I got from TRE is fantastic, thanks again Dave. Awesome!

In the meanwhile, check out this product. We have talked about this before in this thread.
I laughed my head off when I watched the video.

Dave B. should carry this in his parts dept for the spirited drivers that he knows. Right Dave? (I'll be one of your first customers).

Progress

Wood is all cut up. Three huge piles of stacked sticks and 26 large stumps.
Wheww! Glad that's over. Back to the Drive entrance and the Cars. Headliner goes in Corvair Truck later today.

This morning at about 8, two large helicopters landed in WLA somewhere.
Two more big Choppers circled. Soon thereafter one big helicopter made large loops between LAX, Bel Air, Hollywood and Mulholland Drive.

The President is leaving LA today to continue to go on a fundraising trip.
I guess he wanted a tour...

Old Mulholland racer, Chris Oxley pulls man from burning car in Sherman Oaks.
Way to go Chris! I would hope that we all would react as he did.

More Garage shots

Jeff H. took some of these shots. He came over for visit late yesterday and we had a good time talking about cars and projects.
Later Jeff, Jane and myself went to the Pineapple Hill Grill and Saloon for a fantastic dinner. Good times.

Here is Jeff pointing to the car's purpose...
That's why it only has 4696 original miles. Not bad for a 34 year old car. (speedometer never disconnected)

That Whaletail is so strong it can hold my entire weight. I wouldn't try it...

Seriously Folks

Jeff caught me in a serious thought.
Maybe Jeff's Porsche Racecar will be ready to race soon and I'm possibly looking forward to it, lol.

Thanks again Jeff.

Doughnuts anyone?

Since we have been talking about Mulholland in this thread, I might as well share some recent observances.

Some months back the Java Dr. sign was taken. No easy feat with big stainless straps to cut and at a considerable height above the ground.
Note: Warren Beatty's house in backround.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1282767474.jpg

Then about 2 to 3 months ago someone started to "leave their mark" (Doughnuts) at specific points of interest.
Usually I wouldn't take notice at someone having fun with the asphalt, however these locations were of significance to me personally. If you watched the youtube called Mulholland Drive for the road enthusiast (long version)

(short version now posted) YouTube - Mulholland Drive for the Road Enthusiast (excerpt)

you will notice that I refer to the intersection of Benedict and Mul as my favorite place to do Doughnuts which coincidently is just down the street from the original (dirt) Doughnuts just east of Deep Cyn.

In the book The Mulholland Experience I talk about this intersection as the place to lay mucho rubber.
Here is an excerpt from the book.....

Chris Banning would like to leave his calling card whenever he

could. Perhaps he identified too much with Zorro when he was a kid.

Others liked to “Leave their mark” but Chris would

usually take it to the extreme. It’s all about how you relate the

message, and few people did it any better than Chris. Jon Corob went

driving with Chris B. often and had this to say. “I do remember all

those black tire marks on the pavement by the Fire Station. Sometimes

they were in the turnout, but mostly there were by the wide area

near the Fire Station. I would go up there in the day and see all those

doughnut marks and Chris would comment, ‘I did those last night.’” Chris

explained why he would attempt such an artistic endeavor. “I would

love to do that at night, especially on warm summer evenings. I knew that the

cops would show up in the morning and wonder who was the mischief maker.

I began by doing doughnuts just east of Benedict Canyon. Before there were

houses built there, it was a gigantic flat rutty dirt lot. Lots of us would

go there to go round and round. If there were an onshore breeze, the

dust brought up by the spinning wheels would drift onto Mulholland,

creating a dust fog bank. With more horsepower, the same could be done

on asphalt. It’s important to have both rear wheels driven, so a

limited slip differential is required. Of course this is kind of hard on the tires. Heh, heh.

At the stop sign at Benedict I would rev-it-up and dump the clutch. I would go left, right,

and back and forth. Sometimes up to 10 complete 360's. I remember the smoke would be so thick you couldn’t

see across the street, but Oh!, what beautiful doughnuts.”

Well Doughnuts started to show up. First at Benedict and Mulholland.
