Porsche Crest "We Are Porsche" exhibit Panorama View

This is a panorama view of the We Are Porsche Exhibit that closed yesterday.
The Porsches are being moved downstairs to make room for the new exhibits.
One will be on special Concept Cars. I got a special preview of the Cars from Curator Jonee Eisen last week and they are super Amazing.

Amazing to see - since I am stuck on the East Coast, this is the next best thing! Thank you!

Porsche Crest "We Are Porsche" exhibit now closed.

While the Carrera was at the Museum, I was able to bring family members, a couple of Mulholland Neighbors, and some of the old friends from the old days.

The day before the Exhibit closed, I visited the Petersen one last time with one of my oldest and best friends named Bruce Kusada. He is person shown with me in the photo taken with the Carrera in my living room, the very 1st photo posted to this thread by this Thread's Creator, Derek.

I met Bruce the first day of Junior High School as he sat behind me in Homeroom.
We were 12 years old at that time and became life-long friends. He is 10 days older than me. Over the years, we did some crazy **** worthy of a small book in itself. We still argue about who is the crazier of the two of us. That's when the stories start to re-count which are fun for both of us to reminisce.

We took a short video at the Museum to re-count one special evening on Mulholland.
Bruce rode shotgun with me many nights as we drove at dangerous speeds. This particular night was my best night race ever, and not coincidently it was against Charley, the Original Legend of Mulholland.

Charley was in his set-up old beater Pickup and I was in my 1973 911S.
We could have easily died that night and lived by a hairline shot.

Here is the video that we took just before the Exhibit closed.

Yes Denis, after the Carrera went to the Petersen Automotive Museum I had some time to work on other projects. I moved the Type 34 into the Garage next to the Targa so that I could work on them inside.

This was in April of 2023.

Porsche Crest Targa Progress

By this time, I had acquired most of the parts needed to complete this Targa so I thought I would begin to re-assemble it as I complete the Body finishing details.

I started to check the fit of the gas tank.

Unfortunately, the gas tank would not sit flat, it was rocking back and forth in it's opening mount.

I took it back out to see if the tank was deformed or bent. The standard Porsche gas tank does sit on an irregular mounting surface but I could not see any bends or creases in the Tank.

With the Gas Tank back in I could see that it was rocking on a high spot.
This spot is directly above the forward A-arm mount found on the underside.

After carefully measuring the distance from the floor to the A-arm mount on both sides it was evident that there was a 1.5 inch discrepancy.
So the Car must have been dropped onto the A-arm mount at some time in the past.

Porsche frame straightening is costly and for safety should be done by trained professionals.
So I decided to have it fixed by Banning Frame and Body.

This Targa had been previously updated to a Short Hood configuration and I am back-dating it to it's original Long Hood Body.

So the first order of business is to remove the Short Hood.

Porsche Crest Targa Progress

After thinking about how to adjust the front Tub down 1.5 inches in a specific spot I decided to use a 20 Ton Jack to push it back to spec.
I considered other ideas but the Jack seemed to be a good solution.

I used 1/4 inch thick metal discs to shim the Jack into a horizontal position.

Now I'm pushing the high spot of the Body down into into it's proper position so I have to push from above.
The heavy deck support Parallams will work perfectly using a 4x4 wooden beam as a Drift.

If the Jack is used without supporting the parts that you don't want affected, it will just push the Car down compressing the Torsion Bars.
So I used Cinder Blocks under the Driver's side forward A-arm and the Passenger side rear A-arm locations.

This puts all force on the specific spot to be corrected.

It took more cranking than I expected to push the body back into proper position.

After several trials and checking the distance between the floor and the bottom A-arm positions, everything looked good.

The Gas Tank now fits perfectly.

This work was performed on May 15, 2023.

Time to get rid of the broken Windshield that was used to fit the Coupe Roof on the Targa Body.

It folds up easily and fits in the Trash Can.
