now available as a replica. i would think that they are a bit loud and confining as opposed to a spyder. but still uber cool.

Some cool vintage Porsche commercials and flicks courtesy of Jack Olsen.

I had to laugh when I heard the soundtracks. Typical 60-70s reminded me of the movie "Billy Jack".

Great vids............

ALERT! ALERT!
Cameras are going to be installed at several intersections on Mulholland. This is information recovered from the news Saturday morning, May 12, 2007.
Apparently, some drivers have been blowing the lights and not obeying the signals or stop signs.
Perhaps they have had complaints coming from residents or tourists about this blatent abuse of the law.
Cameras will go up from Topanga to Franklin Canyons.

Gee, I wonder why they are going to put one at Franklin. Could it be that some maniac(s) have been not obeying the signals? Like some crazed Porsche drivers(and a Corvair) following a certified insane Testarossa driver across Mulholland a few Sundays ago.;)

However, that wasn't just blowing the signal, was it?

Thanks for the bait Victor.
We are going to make more Mulholland history come alive.
Mulholland International Raceway, from start to finish.
We will do this before it's too late, either too late to remember or too late for those that have gone already.

It was nice to see you guys this morning, thanks again.

I have a buddy that tests cars that just did Mulholland last week, and said it was insane. It's too bad they are putting cameras all over it though. I guess that means no more Sunday early AM romps for you local folks...

We have had cameras on Mulholland for about 15 -20 years now. Privately owned ones that are not threatening yet could still be used against the spirited driver.

Locations of these privates are reflected below with more less visible ones all over Mul.

Back in the 80's I installed a flip down rear Cadillac license plate holder on my Barracuda connected to a choke cable/ lever. Good simple technology for the day. I know some other guys that used this method. Every time I went up the hill to run pull the lever and no plate. Very effective. Since no one had front plates back then either it was "stealthy".

New modern technology brings us toys like these. (I like this)
http://digg.com/lbv.php?id=478282&ord=1

My Dad recently spent a year on the Civil Grand Jury. Part of that was spent monitoring and auditing how the City/ County spends its tax dollars. He spent two days at Traffic Control Center and I discussed the Centers charter with him on these camera systems. County traffic cameras are used for monitoring traffic patterns and congestion. I would not worry so much about these. The Control Center for these is located in the basement at City Hall. The LAPD Emergency Command Center is also located there. If there were to be civil unrest or riots in LA then the cameras would be put to other uses.

This is what I think of any government owned/ operated surveillance

Stop light/ Intersection cameras are another story. These will get you a ticket if they are setup correctly. They are high resolution cameras that provide a lot of detail. New systems snap a video quality "shot" of both the front and rear of the vehicle along with an attempt to nab the mug of the vehicle operator.

So what does this mean?

Bring back the masks....................(I couldnt resist)

SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- (MARKET WIRE) -- May 08, 2007 -- REDFLEX Traffic Systems, Inc., a leader in photo-based traffic safety solutions, announced they have reached an agreement with the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority (MRCA) to install a number of photo-based traffic safety solutions including a ground-breaking new system aimed at monitoring stop sign violations. Which will forever more be known as the "Banning Straight" as in straight through the red light.:D

Jeff, thanks for the detailed information on upcoming intersection cameras. Everyone take note where they will be and take appropriate precautions. They can't monitor every section of Mulholland yet...so enjoy it while you can.

slodave 05-12-2007 01:04 PM

MRCA sucks. The guy that runs it wants to be a cowboy. He patrols the parks and gets to carry a gun, but really has no authority, but acts like he owns the mountain. Why would they put a camera at the top of Reseda? Reseda is a cul-de-sac and there is a gate just off the pavement blocking access to Mulholland. Stupid, what a waste of money.

Thanks very much Victor for that, however I don't know if it is deserved. After all, hasn't every driver once in a while innocently or accidently rolled through a stop sign or light?

They said you can't beat the radio, we did in many ways.

They said they were going shut the racing down. They did only for a few nights.

They had spot lights. We had lights out.

They posted signs, signs disappeared.

No parking dusk til dawn, ok we didn't come to park.

They took away our turnouts, again we didn't come to park.

They came with radar- we came with detectors.

They sent the Helicoptors, we showed them what vanish means.

They put up a gate at Bowmont, the "gate fixer" came and fixed the gate. (for a short while)

They tried to intimidate us, we returned and went faster.

They installed stops signs, that didn't deter us.

They installed traffic lights, that didn't deter us.

Then a long long time had passed........They thought we went away.

Then one day Chris started a thread and wrote a book.

A short time later Derek started a thread with a question.

TRE responded with " Well... how much time you got?"

Many gathered new and old .

Legends and lore were told.

Others joined in.

Run's were scheduled.

Dereks thread has become an epic still growing.

News of camera's being installed.

I do not race on Mulholland anymore. Nothing to worry about.

But I will bet a dollar any camera on Mulholland will not be long lived..........

........smile and say cheese
