Quick little OFF TOPIC, non-car-related side note:

If anyone is interested, I have a show next Wednesday (Aug. 29th) at the Knitting Factory in Hollywood. I go on around 9:30pm. Pop your mushrooms around 8:30.

Now back to PORSCHE stuff.

You'd better start spraying some PB blaster on those muffler bolts now . I believe you need to at least remove it, in order to get at the tensioners.

Ya know, being a racer is hell. You have to drink Pabst and Carling Black Label beer just to be a suporter.

Anyway, contact Ron Christiansen from Salt Lake City as I remember he used to film and photo his races - in car (which include allot of Riverside races (even one where I was in front of him - I want a copy of that one)) back in 1981

Chris,
Is Mason still in business? Back in the 1970's & 80's he was cutting edge when it came to cages and safety equipment. Not to many guys were doing aluminum back then.

Arnie is still playing with cars except now in the motion picture industry.
Very successful and quite the film credits under his belt!

Interesting photos

917's licensed for the street. In Europe I understand it has been done a few times. Could you imagine the traffic snarl if one was on the street in LA? Then again maybe everyone would think it was just a cheeseball Kit Car?

Guy in the passenger seat with the Mod Squad mustache looks a little nervous?

This guy has got to be nervous. He has that BMW behind him with a damaged right front.

How about a 935 owners manual? I just cannot imagine more than 1 or 2 pages in this booklet.

PAGE ONE
1. Fasten safety harness
2. Turn on master power
3. Turn on fuel pump
4. Depress clutch
5. Depress starter button
6. Place shifter in first gear
7. Release clutch
8. Hold on

PAGE TWO
9. Your mileage may vary GREATLY
10. Have a nice day
11. Antrieb sicher

BACK COVER
12. No warranty expressed or implied
13. For parts and/ or service do not contact the dealer FOR ANY REASON

More Porsche content. What do you think? It matches my paint .

Top cover in pic is there for comparison.

I'd say Paint the whole thing with high temp red (not body color) then go over the letters with a sanding block and bring them back to metal color

That was an option that Kevin and I talked about, but I don't really like the red valve covers. It's subtle this way (painted script), but brings out the name.

I agree with Radu. Good idea to have them bead blasted first though. Rough surface will make coating stick better. Or polish it to a mirror shine.

Bead blasting is why I am waiting. I want to get the entire engine cleaned up first and then decide what to powder coat/paint. Wait until I win the lottery tomorrow night .

Dave, I like your original idea of just painting the letters PORSCHE on your valve covers. It will look fine. When whole 911 engine parts are painted in powder coat or heat paint in a color, it usually cheapens the original look of the motor. In my opinion paint makes the 911 motor look cheesy, sleezy, and yeasty just like some girls that I knew in High School. Besides we don't want to offend Dr. Porsche, do we? RIP

Just joking about the photo.
