Led Zeppelin reunion
Wow, heard on the radio that Led Zeppelin may be reuniting with Jason Bonham on drums. Jimi Page recently let on to this as did John Paul Jones, who said that it was a definite. I did see Page and Plant at the Hollywood Bowl, but never did get to see the original band. If this happens, I'm there. Not going to miss the chance again.

That has been talked about for years, starting back in the 80s...
probably sparked again because all of these ancient rock and roll warriors (Police, VH, Genesis, Eagles etc.) are getting back together again... However... check out this link which contains an amazing set of a long interview with Robert Plant, done about a year ago. In one of the clips, he discusses his reunion with Plant in the 90s which lead (no pun intended) to the MTV special, and subsequent CD release with Page. He says that it was fun at first, but they ended it as they started to feel "trapped" by the whole thing once again....and the fun was gone. http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=hooligantv&page=2 for all 11 parts excerpts on this very topic...and well worth it to check out the other 9 parts ! Robert Plant is a character. His interviews are great. Just watched all 11 parts to the one Sonic dB posted. Good stuff.

Zep sucked live?.. well.. I never saw them live but I've got almost 100 bootlegs and yeah some of them aren't that great - it's the risk you take when you're given to impromptu improvisation of every song in the setlist - but some songs are head and shoulders better than the studio versions. I'm glad they took those risks.
The Earl's Court boots from '72 or '73.. All the Royal Albert Hall shows, same with MSG.. have you ever seen The Song Remains The Same? The solo in No Quarter is just freaky good - the coolest celtic-jazzy-bluesy notes ever strung together. The live DVD's? Even a heroined-up Page had more ideas than 99% of the "play-it-exactley-like-the-album" dittoheads you get nowadays.

believe as you wish. i gave them 3 chances back in the early to mid 70s. page's whole theramin(?) bit stunk up the venue everytime. maybe the acid clouded my judgement. concert tickets for $12 a pop. no doubt if they should hook up again they will get fools to pony up $100+ a ticket...FOR THE WORST BAND LIVE EVER!!! hehe.

Robert Plant was pretty good live - saw him a few years ago at the United Center in Chicago. He IS getting up there in years though.

Now that I think about it, Floyd live was very different than the studio stuff. Great in its own way though...

Thats a common misconception, based on the poor and uneven performance in parts of "The Song Remains the Same" That was a show which was done at the end of the 73 tour and was added on at the end....the band was tired and not up for the show at all... also I believe they had a couple weeks break off and then were called back for the show. The shows were filmed over a couple of nights......and the band judged them not suitable for release....and they stayed in the can for 2 years...until they were released. If you want to see how good they are, pick up a copy of "How The West Was Won" DVD.... Watch the 1969 show in Denmark...for live TV and then skip to the 1979 Knebworth show... 10 year span there and in both cases the band was tight, spot on and terrific... |

They did a reunion gig on TV a few years back. Page was fat and Plant had some (Hindu) Indian doing the high notes for him.

Fast forward 30 years, and I saw Robert Plant outside at the St. Michelle winery a couple of years ago. It happened to be the 25th anniversary of Bonham's death. Plant was great, but the rest of the band was no Zeppelin. I do remember him being an hour late taking the stage and playing a very short set once he did. Struck me that he had adopted the stuck-up rockstar attitude. I'll have to hear a few reports once (or if) they start playing again before I decide. Like I said, I've seen them before. I don't have the feeling I missed out like some of you.

I think they were probably one of the best live, up until Page broke his hand and started getting pretty heavy into heroin.
I saw Robert Plant about ten years ago, was awesome, even with hired guns. Jason Bonham in my opinion is the only drummer who can fill his fathers shoes.
