Heck, Washington State just freed about 100 convicted felons. Why? Because we're reaching capacity.

Yeah, the broadly supported "three strikes and you'r eout" initiative several years ago was a bad bad idea. It forced judges to lock up everyone who was caught selling weed twice. The people who knew what the voters did not know.....knew this day would come. Now we've got high-risk sex offenders (who like to rape and kill children) being freed early to make room for the greenbud entrepeneurs. As much as you guys seem to hate judges......I favor giving them some decisions to consider.

Three Strikes legislation was a good idea written poorly. Most of us wanted at least the first two strikes to have been violent felonies, perhaps all three. The professional prison system employees got most of the laws written as "any three felonies" violent or not. That was and remains a bad idea.

The other problem is that putting people like Supe mentioned above in prision is the worst thing you can do. Inside they then will learn real crime and come out worse than they ever were, which will hurt everyone more in the end.

Isn't it time, then, to de-criminalize marijuanna and keep those dollars working here in the US instead of building Columbian highrises?

Besides being a necessary medicine for many glaucoma/aids/cancer patients to maintain a quality of life, hemp also was a viable industrial product along the lines of corn, soybeans, and peanuts.
It was once used for the sails/rope/burlap sacks of the Mayflower, and it was once used for acid-free paper pulp.....our constitution is printed on it.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.

the only thing that makes these people prisoners are the people that keep them there. imagine if all the guards need to get home to check on family, or come down sick. they may as well throw the doors open.
