The end of time is upon us.
Porsche 993 drift car...Next it will be dogs and cats sleeping together. It is certainly a sign of the Apocalypse.

Would it be considered inappropriate in the eyes of other Porsche owners to kill it and put it out of its misery?

I have to wonder whay all the brands out there are jumping on this bandwagon. They seem to sniff money to be made, yet I do not see it.
There was just a local drift event here and pics were posted on a local car forum tell me if you see lots of big spenders looking for a place to purchase from here. ![]() ![]() ![]() Drift Miata? ![]()

I think it's cool. Why are all you bashing drifting, at least skill is involved. In my opinion NASCAR and drag racing are far worse and theyve been around for ages. And I bet if any of you had the opportunity to be a passenger in a drift car with a goodd driver, it would be the time of your life.

My problem with drifting is that it is car gymnastics, not the most effective way to negotiate a stretch of road. If people enjoy watching it, that's great, just not what I want to watch.

We used to do that stuff as teenagers too. But only in the snow.

I never thought I would say this, but there really is a motorsport I hate more than NASCAR.

I'm not into the drift scene, but at least at official drift events, they are keeping the kids off the streets. The problem is when Junior decides to test his mad drifting skilz on a street and winds up side-swiping a couple of parked cars in the process.
Drifting is certainly not the fastest way around a corner (except maybe in snow-covered rally stages) , but it certainly involves driver skill and looks pretty cool when done properly. Me - I prefer my slip angles to be closer to 10-12 degrees, thank you very much. ![]() -Z-man.

Drifting is amusing. Most of those guys would have their ASSES handed to them at one of our AX events.

Did you hear about the drag racer that kept getting his skirt hem caught on the shifter?

There are some forms of "motorsport" that are entertaining, even though they are catered to the unsophisticated audience. Sparks, noise, fire, smoke, and crashes all appeal to the most basic emotions and instincts of human nature, but not really to the intellectual.
Tractor pulls, moster trucks, and NASCAR come to mind. Drifting is kinda neat to watch for a little while, at least long enough for the commercial on the other channel to get over with, and there is no reason it couldn't be done as an exibition or something (kinds like stunt men who crash cars) but turning it into a competition? that's where they lose me. Maybe it just reminds me too much of some 16 year old punk kid who just got his license and his daddy's car and is doing donuts in the parking lot. |
