Pronunciation Test

Greetings,

Since I new to the world of Porsche, I don't want to sound like a "geek" or newbie when discussing Porsche items. Thus there are a few words I'd like to get the correct pronunciation on, starting with:

1)Porsche: Does it sound like:
A) POOR-SH
B) POOR-SH-A
C) Doesn't matter, just as long as you own one
2)Boge: Does it sound like:
A) BOAG
B) BOAG-E
C) BOJ
D) BOJE
E) How cares, go with Bilsteins

Stupid questions I know, but I'd still like to hear from the masses.

Thanks,
Scott

Rhymes with "books" (although it's safer to use pronounciation "A" in mixed company).

1=A if you don't own one, B if you do.

2=B.

Fuchs = Fooks like moon.

Before you ask, Ruf is like roof, and Kremer is like Kramer

In Europe, a commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy.

The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.

Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th" with "z" and "w" with "v".

During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensibl riten styl.

Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.

Und efter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas.

While we are being whiny about things: is the vowel sound in "How" pronounced like in "Cow" or like in "New"?

Porsche
What is the correct pronunciation of Porsche? While the “proper” way to pronounce some German terms in English may be debatable, this isn't one of them. Porsche is a family name, and the family members pronounce their surname PORSH-uh, not PORSH! Same for the car. You don't say NYKE for Nike, so don't be lazy and leave off the e in Porsche! Porsche's U.S. TV commercials pronounce the name correctly and so should you.

So 1=B

as for the struts:
I believe that Boge is a German brand, If I'm correct about this then I think The letter G should be pronounced like the letter X in Mexico (when said in Spanish), it is not exactly the same but I don't no any English words with a "soft" G. Other, smarter people, please chime in.

Again B (closest)

Fuchs: CH to be pronounced in a similar way as the G in Boge (maybe a bit "harder"

Closest is B but not pronounced as a K, more like the G from Boge
Please do not use FEW-KS, it sounds horrible (and I'm not even German)

Isn't K9handler German?? He should know this then

i'de like to see any German pronounce it as

PorschA

the e is not silent
but it's still an E not an A
PorschE
sounds like Porsch uh

but anyway, couldn't care less myself
i pronounce it with a silent E , because that's how folks say it in the dialect of the place i'm from, and that's what stuck

Interestingly enough, PORSCHA is an american thing. As far as I know, Germans call them PORSH.

I liken this to how some gay guys develop a lisp / brittish accent...

Seriously, I think it's just regional differences kinda like how y'all call the surface on top of you house a ruff, not a rooof...

Porsche is not Por-sha, like Shakespeare's Portia.
Rather, the second 'syllable' is kind of an inflection.

Who pronounces Boge? Most just replace them...

I'm with the fewwks crowd.

All in all, it's just rhetorical masturbation. Some of those who vehemently argue the Porsche/Porsch-a issue ad nauseum might be missing the point...

By contrast, debating oil leak points of origin is really stimulating discourse.

Regards,
