Supe is no more than a Democratic Liberal. You too, on-ramp. Whew; glad that's out of the way...
We do have some serious issues ("we" = Democratic Liberals and Republican Conservatives) to address concerning our out-of-control, illegal traffic enforcement infrastructure. Maybe we can talk about those?

Joe, I prefer the "Golden Rule" - he who has the gold, makes the rules.

Yep, we have some of the gold so we buy the Valentine One and hopefully do not get caught. That said, if I get stopped and am speeding I will pay the ticket. To not do so is lying and sorry, do not need to do this. Pls do not get me wrong. If I am not speeding and someone gives me a ticket will fight it forever but driving what I drive doubt that this will happen.

Hope you are happy with your lot in life. I prefer to work with people I trust, who tell the truth and who do not wear blinders and make the rules up as they go.

Everybody is doing it so it should be legal and i expect not to be penalized if i am doing it too. Nice attitude.
This reminds me of the dumba$$ that *****ed and moaned about getting a ticket in the mail for running a redlight.

Sorry, if I am caught will fess up and pay the ticket. Big difference.
Please show me one time where someone was not speeding and received a ticket. One showing a speed lower than the limit and ticketed. I believe a lot of things that are troubling. Believe in 3 hours I will have a cigar and margarita by the pool. Need to listen to the airplanes flying overhead...

Furthermore, red light camera tickets carry no points and are relatively cheap, yet really blowing off a red light is one of the most dangerous things you can do. So why don't they make the fine $500 with 4 pts.? Why don't they just leave the lights timed as before? Because they want more money and $90 and no points are not gonna make most people fight them.

Our presumption is that speed limits are established and enforced as a tool to facilitate public safety. Increasingly, there has been a huge disconnect between ticketing "speeders" and preserving public safety. In many cases, no rational safety based argument can be made for most speeding tickets. The motivation for the aggressive enforcement of speed laws is clearly economic.
So now lets talk about "the big lie." When an officer writes a ticket for an offense that is clearly not jeopardizing public safety, he has violated the public trust. He is no longer serving the public, he is collecting revenue. So is it reasonable to fight a ticket when you know you are "guilty"? If the officer has violated the public trust in writing the ticket, I see no moral imperative to roll over and pay a fine without a fight.

Right on, Moses. In the particular case in question, going slower than the pace of traffic would have constituted a hazard. There is no "safety" component to this kind of enforcement.

so because the coppers are unable to pull EVERYONE who speeds over they should not pull ANYONE who speeds over?
it's a law, if you broke it be prepared to pay the penalty.

IMO the thought process used by Moses is not very different from that of a gang rapist or the looters in N.O. "Everybody else is doing it and i will benefit personally by doing it as well.....so i will do it!".

Are you kidding me? Anyone going 55mph (that's the speed limit) on the Beltway IS causing the danger there. Speed doesn't kill. Speed delta does. Can I have a glass of your Kool-Aid?

And your statement was Quote:

Does not happen to me as much now that I am in my forties. In my twenties I got pulled over all the time for no reason. Why? I was young and drove a nice expensive car. The fact that I also had long hair and a "tinted" complexion made me a target. One example of many. I'm on the highway heading to work. 2 cops in a cruiser are coming down the on ramp. I'm a little in front of them and they start to pass me. As they pass I see the guy in the passenger seat give me the once over. They slow down, get behind me and light them up. So I pull over and politely ask what's the problem. I loved this answer, "It did not look like you were wearing your seat belt, (which I was, black belt against a white shirt, yeah, I can see how that can be missed) but as long as we are here license and regi please. Cop2 is walking around the car peering in every window. Naturally they ask the old, mind if we look thru the car question. Hey no problem have a great time, knock yourself out. I hung out and smoked a butt while they made themselves crazy looking for god knows what. Car was a black RX7 with a black interior, it was the dead of summer and hot. I made sure I turned off the ignition and AC before they started poking around and working up a nice sweat. And BTW, he wrote me the seat belt ticket. When I protested he simply replied that he did not see it and I must have slipped it on before pulling over. I'd love to live in your world. Seems much nicer than the real world.

Rick you're saying the 55mph driver is causing a dangerous situation because he is failing to break the law along with everyone else.
That sits okay with you? I recall reading somewhere that everyone going faster than us is a nutjob speed freak and everyone going slower is an old man that should have his license pulled.

The law itself is dangerous and unjust. It neevr had anything to do with safety when it was nationalized in the '70's, but rather was about energy consumption following the Arab oil embargo. 'Scuse me while my 42 mpg, 500 lbs. motorcycle goes along with the flow of traffic.
