Throw the bums (gang of clueless bozos) out!
Here's an impassioned excerpt from a new book by Lee Iaccoca:
Where Have All the Leaders Gone? By Lee Iacocca with Catherine Whitney Had Enough? Am I the only guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where the hell is our outrage? We should be screaming bloody murder. We've got a gang of clueless bozos steering our ship of state right over a cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we can't even clean up after a hurricane much less build a hybrid car. But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and nods their heads when the politicians say, "Stay the course." Stay the course? You've got to be kidding. This is America, not the damned Titanic. I'll give you a sound bite: Throw the bums out! ------------longer excerpt----------- http://depression2.tv/d2/node/261 Sure, Lee is a liberal, but it's hard to argue with the litany of problems he lists in the expanded excerpt. There is a segment of the American population that doesn't want to be bothered with thinking about government. And there is a core within that group that longs for a 'strongman' style of government where their opinions are irrelevant anyway. But we've effectively had one-party rule for 6+ years and we've seen the greatest growth in debt, the worst pork barrel spending and the most flagrant waste of our military's power in history. Not to mention the greatest encroachment on individual liberties since we were under British rule. Maybe it's time we remembered our revolutionary roots. "Here in America we are descended in blood and in spirit from revolutionists and rebels --men and women who dare to dissent from accepted doctrine. As their heirs, we may never confuse honest dissent with disloyal subversion."- Dwight Eisenhower

I'm in the camp of believing that if someone wants to be in office, they probably shouldn't be allowed to be in office... Very local (county or below) levels excluded.... but HOAs are excluded from that exclusion...

Too bad liberals are all so chicken-***** afraid of guns...otherwise the true purpose of the 2nd Amendment might be realized: armed uprising against a corrupt and incompetent federal government.

A general and complete walk-out. Everyone in the country (expect a skel force in the utilitie companies and law enforcement) stay home for a day. Pop a beer and watch your kids play, the birds fly or the grass grow. No TV, no radio, no driving, no buying, no selling, no making, no braking, no internet no nothing but quite contemplation.

From my perspective, one of the very biggest problems is the media. Politicians and their parties also have the same agenda. Make people believe that government is "them." Then villify the piss out of gubmit. Make sure that no true leader in his right mind would consider taking a public policy-making position. There is no place where leadership is more needed, or where leadership could do more good for more people and businesses, than government.

Jeez, this thread is gonna bring out the tyrants. Iacoca is only saying what's been on the streets for months. Calm down, we'll get there. For you libs, just think how far the pendulum will swing. Might even swing into Hilary's election. Or Obama.

B.S.J.:
As I have often been described, this "Thomas Jefferson liberal" isn't scared of guns, as I own plenty of them, and have been know to use them accurately on more than two occasions (unlike another "lying to get what he wants Re-Bubb" in the presidential race [Mitt Romney]). Nathan's Dad: And why should the Dems be thrown out.....your wonderful (sic) conservative Re-Bubbs haven't done a thing except spend money they don't have, and create hate and discontent with the rest of the world. (and then hide behind: "Well, Clinton did it, too....") Trump said it best: "Dubya, YOU'RE FIRED!!!" BUSH DOESN'T SUPPORT THE TROOPS. (I'll veto that bill, just as soon as it hits my desk.) regards---rhjames ![]()

The way we select our leaders is fatally flawed. We have developed a society that is influenced by the thinnest veil of glamour/personality/ideology. As a result we have incompetent amoral out of touch leadership that hasn't a clue what "We the people" deal w/ on a daily basis. Competence and a vision of the common good has been replaced by venal pursuit of power, single minded pursuit of control over wealth and ideological narrow minded hallucinations. I can think of few in power that I respect. Most belong in jail or at the end of a noose. Both political, social and corporate leaders have abrogated their social responsibility to the masses in search of personal and philosophical aggrandizement. In short I am disgusted w/ the vast majority of our so called leaders. The only thing that we as a people can legally do is vote the rascals out, all of them, vote against their arrogant policy wherever possible and try top educate as many others as possible.

Wow Bill, very well said. I might add public apathy has led to this. We can vote the bastards out every 2, 4, and 6 years. I honestly wonder why we don't.
If everyone could make a simple personal vow to never again vote for an incumbent, we would be most of the way home. I don't care what party they are with, how "good" of a job they are doing; simply never vote for them after one term. I did that in our last election and found myself voting against Republicans. I felt at the time that "voting the bastards out" was more important than their party or their stand on the issues. Since we can no longer trust them to actually adhere to whatever stand they presented to get elected, why not? We don't know what we are getting anymore anyway. A couple of cycles of this should weed out the riff-raff. The folks looking for careers would have to look elsewhere, and they would know it. The ones looking for power to share with their friends that got them there would have a tough time marshalling their resources and favors to acquire that power. They would have no reason to think they would ever get re-elected, so that would not taint their decisions. If we, the people, could get into this pattern of absolutely no re-elections, we could win back our country. It's worth a try.

I say we go back to the days where you had to be a land holder or business owner to vote...

I like Heinlein's solution: Honorable or medical discharge to vote. Nothing else.

OK, thinking about that, I would be OK with making voting based on sending in a "positive" tax return. This means that you actually sent money towards the Government. If you didn't make enough money to send some in, you don't get to vote. And I would eliminate the voting age. If you send money into the IRS, then you are old enough to vote. Bimbos married to the rich do not get to slide in.
