Robert, I've been thinking about this for a while. I consider the illegal entrant issue to be the single most important issue the country faces, and we certainly have lots of problems to choose from. I need to push other things aside and do some consolidating of ideas, because I really think this is a problem that has a solution.
Unfortunately, you hit on the core problem: politics. None of the republicrats has backbone enough to stand up and do what is good for the country. They are all working for short-term advantage or increased profits. Perhaps one of our esteemed number (LubeMaster has been in search of a cause) has the time and knowledge to put together an internet petition. We ultimately need to get the message to our "representatives" that we expect this to be fixed and fixed correctly or it will cost them our vote. I'll take the pledge here and now: I will not vote for any candidate for any office if that candidate advocates amnesty of any kind for illegal entrants. I will not vote for any candidate for any office if they will not wholeheartedly advocate relocating illegal entrants to their home country with the requirement that those illegal entrants go to the end of the line to apply for legal entry. I will not vote for any candidate for any office if they do not wholeheartedly embrace the need for a guest worker program which includes a definite, enforceable, date for guest workers to return to their home countries. Yes, I'm serious.

"illegal" means "against the law"
"immigrant" means "someone who has (legally) migrated to another country" "Illegal immigrant" therefore seems an oxymoron. "Immigrants" I have no problem with - regardless of where they're from. "Illegals" I have EVERY problem with. I personally believe any "solution" other than rounding up and booting each and every person in this country illegally back to their point of origin is a cop-out and a failure. Failing to secure our borders is unacceptable. How we can maintain a devil-may-care attitude towards people waltzing across our borders in a post-9/11 world is a complete mystery to me. If we want to make America better & stronger, a good first step is to restrict the people coming here to those that will contribute positively to our society, its growth, its culture and add their own heritage and experiences and diversity to ours. Heck, has anyone else here looked into what it takes to immigrate to a country like Australia or New Zealand? I have. It's quite involved and the onus is most definitely on you to prove you have something to offer to their society - manual laborers, taco makers, stay-at-home moms with 5 kids and no means of support, ditch diggers and so-forth need not apply. They have identified the career types that are in demand and desirable to increase/maintain their competitiveness in a global marketplace - and they screen for them. We should take a lesson from this instead of getting dragged down by idiotic political correctness while every other forward-thinking nation on earth kicks our asses.

Jim,
You keep writing everything i've been contemplating for a while. I personnally will only vote for the person who I feel is serious about closing the boarder. I dont care if they are from the Communist Party. There is no bigger threat to our soverienty, culture, elected officials and homeland security than the backword machismo Mexican culture. Anyone who refuses to see the impact to our educational system, welfare state and potential voting apparatus is a ostrich with there head under a rock...If you dont live in the south west make a visit and tour downtown LA. Its embarrassing.. Like TJ. Look at our state deficit. I was a Republican..and not casting a single vote for anyone who doesnt endorse USA first and have a firm boarder policy...I'm with you Jim all the way...

Closing the boarder wont help as long as they are living in dirt huts over there and the promise of high paying jobs (relative to what they make in Mexico) over here. We need to think of Mexicans as a symptom of a disease that being Employers willing to break the law at all costs.

Lets all take the pledge:
I will not vote for any candidate for any office if that candidate advocates amnesty of any kind for illegal entrants. Lets mail this credo to our local representatives...

Tony, I think you are about 10º off. I think the root problem is a corrupt, destitute Mexico right next to a rich, prosperous America.
Think of it this way: if you had a rich neighborhood right next to a ghetto, what happens? Crime bleeds over into the rich neighborhood until the rich people build a wall. They hire some of the poor people as housekeepers, cooks, and lawncare engineers.

Why do you consider illegal immigration to be the biggest single issue? I'm not asking to start an argument, I am seriously interested in why so many people consider this the primary issue facing our nation.

MRM,
Ol buddy, Seriously, I feel it is because I have spent 40+ years in So-cal and watch the invasion that parrallels Shermans March to the Sea. The communities they live in are gang war zones, graffitti enfested toilets with absolutely no inspiration toward education. Why do you think America is a great country? Probably because a constitution governed by the rule of law. Mexico is governed by corrupt strong arm bandits and machismo. MRM -Go visit El Paso and take a look around. I travel there frequently...complete toilet...embarrasing. And if you are a white, black or asian guy look out.. Then the threat to democracy because thet procreate multi exponentially at your cost..Then they WILL vote for a PONCHO VILLA type. look at LA's Virogosa ...(Spelled wrong) Then the country you once knew will be Mexico... Forever... Yes they made a nice guy into a racist...

From Yahoo news:
In Chicago, thousands of demonstrators carried American flags, signs and placards, including one that read, "We may not have it all together, but together we can have it all." ![]()

two words for you, a place where getting shot or kidnapped would not be too surprising Nuevo Laredo. The difference between the current invasion and previous immigration is that in the past, they were proud to become Americans. My Grandfather did not mind if the kids spoke German around the house, but would beat them if he even heard about them speaking anything but English on the street. They had 5 stars in their window during WW II, and that was something my Grandmother apparently took great pride in. Just because the US is corrupt and prosperous and Mexico is corrupt and not so much so, does not make it inevitable that the Southern US becomes a Latin American ghetto

Comrades, you are mocking the day of The Great Revolution!!!
As the direct descendant of immigrants I must say that immigration should always be allowed in this country!!! There is a great reason people want to be here! People who break the rules/laws are in violation of what The Constitution provides, IMHO. This is a country of privilege, entry is a privilige not a right! If entry was not through proper channels, send them back at their own expense. I still think Pres Bush did a GREAT disservice to this country in '92 when he eliminated greater than 100,000 service people because their services were no longer needed. We need them guarding our borders!!! Seriously, this is a 100 year old debacle that MUST be sorted out but no one has the gonads in wish-washington to take a lead!

Yup. San Diego is another toilet border town. Every been there? The whole place has been over run with Mexicans...
So I guess all you guys don't employ any illegals in any way, shape or form, right? If you have gardeners do you check each person in the crew for green cards? And of course you don't buy any produce at the store, because you know that was picked by illegals, so by buying it you're aiding and abetting a crime. I hate to tell you, but the Cleavers and the Nelsons are dead, and society has moved on. I have three different King Tacos that I go to; one in Pasadena (the whitest one), one in East LA (amazing place, especially late at night) and the other on the edge of Koreatown. That one is particularly interesting. The other day I took my son there, and we had lunch. We were the only Anglos there, with the rest of the crowd being split between Latino and Korean. It was totally cool. And some people actually spoke English. Imagine that... |

Show of hands, how many of us want to live in the slums of Tijuana?
It really won't be that bad, we might not even notice it as it will be a gradual change. (HINT: the previous sentence was sarcasm). The US treats these criminals better than their country treats them. Our LEGAL immigration laws are more relaxed than theirs. They have already stolen more rights and privileges from us than their own country would give them. They are protesting our country, but their country is worse. Why is that? Did we screw it up? No, they screwed it up and now they are doing the same thing to our country. Thanks alot you bleeding heart liberal fools! If you want to give up everything you have, go ahead. But keep your darned hands out of my pocket! You have no business giving up what belongs to me and my kids. Shame on you. I know you mean well, it's not your fault you are so foolish. No, I take that back. It is your fault. Last edited by sammyg2; 05-01-2007 at 07:03 PM.. |

No Todd, I don't buy produce at the supermarket(local church fruit stand, don't know where you come down on Seventh Day Adventists, but at least they are here legally), don't employ a yard person(illegal alien or otherwise). I have been there and used to live there. SD gets worse the closer you get to the border, and the illegal alien areas are the worst part of town, just like Hell A.
Personally I try to practice what I preach, even if it is going to cost me a few more dollars. People often think it quaint when I say there is a right and wrong, but there is. Oh BTW, anybody catch the news this morning about the LA PD shutting down the protests when they became unruly? Very few arrests, which is disappointing.
